We are at a crossroads in humanity

submitted by Satch on Tuesday, September 11 2001 at 5:03 PM

We find ourselves questioning the very existence we often take forgranted. The ability for such horrendous acts as were commited today can cause many to question human nature and the presence of such evil. Today even those who are not directly affected are in need of strength, for many that may be religion, whatever that may be it is what drives us daily.
In the days to come, we as young people and Americans will have to rely heavily upon that faith and strength. May we focus our prayers to loved ones, and those we know not of in this time of tremendous loss. I have a cousin that works in the Trade Center towers who luckily missed her bus this morning , but must now deal with the loss of many colleagues. We dont know who did this, or who is the target, but we do know who is hurting; we all are. Keep our hearts positive and our prayers or thoughts constant on the healing of our nation.
Lastly, be prepared. Watching the news, many have commented on the presence of a new war. We cant focus on retribution when we know who has done this. I extend my concern to the Middle Eastern students already at this university. In the coming days as I have seen today, you will experience the ignorance often displayed in this country. We must unite and realize that ignorance is the reason many are dead today. We dont know who did this and cant yield to steretypes in our anger and confusion.

I seriously love you all, and with that we must begin to heal. Decker Ngongang

Very true and very beautiful Deck. I agree, we should not ignorantly fear or snuff middle eastern students or adults. Instead, in the spirit of hope and peace, we should extend our hearts and hands to every person in this nation b/c, as you said, we are ALL going through this. We must realize that we are all in the same boat, and whether you are pro-American or not, if this boat sinks (which I pray it won't) we're ALL going down with it.. and thus I think every person, reguardless of ethnicity, is going through this as everyone else. I extend my prayer to all those suffering, great or small, from this horrific tragedy.

I agree, we are at a Crossroads in this country. Never have we been attacked by someone individual, not representing a country, in this devestating of a manner. This will truly test the meddle of our people. I do believe, though, that we have the courage, and the heart to get through this with flying colors (red, white, and blue). I agree with Decker, stereotyping somebody isn't going to help with your feelings or the wellness of our country.
