BLOOD DRIVE

submitted by Byrn Stuff on Sunday, April 27 2003 at 8:22 PM

Alpha Phi Omega (NC State's Co-ed Service Fraternity) is sponsoring a blood drive on Wednesday, April the 30th from 2:30 to 7 PM in the Caldwell Lounge.

A lot of TWWers are regular donors, but for some of you this could be your first time. Please come out. This event will not show up on the NCSU Blood Drive website so this is your reminder other than what's listed on the TWW calendar. Mark the date and come out even if it's only for the free snacks you get after donating. Our goal is 40 donations which sounds like a small number, but every bit helps. It would be wonderful to go over and with your help we could.

Here's some info:
Blood Donation FAQs

What to Know/Do before donating

If you are interested in donating or have any questions please e-mail Amanda (anbrown2@unity.ncsu.edu)

Thanks a ton,
~Emmanuel

When's the soonest you can give blood again? I gave blood on January 28th, I assume that's a long enough wait.

I'm fairly sure you have to wait eight weeks before you can donate again

you're usually in and out in about an hour or hour and a half

please come out. the time it takes is not proportional at all to the good it can do. for an hour's time you can save someone's life.

Depends on how many people are there. The wait can be anywhere between a couple of minutes to an hour, but actual time in the chair is maybe 10 minutes (more or less), but I've never looked at my watch since I usually use my left arm. I suggest you race the person next to you to pass the time.

You have to wait 56 days so Jan is far enough back.

I went to the Dominican Republic over Spring Break, so i'm pretty sure I can't donate to this blood drive - any idea about how long I have to wait?

I want to say one year, but I'm not sure

i thought you could give blood every 3 or 4 weeks...

I gave blood the first time earlier this month... would I be ok to do it again on wed?

BTW: if you haven't ever given before it's not that bad... i thought it would be really bad, but it wasn't in all actuallity... my biggest problem was the fact that i went to costa rica last summer and had a few different people asking me exactly where I went there and had to check to make sure those places weren't known for maleria.

I'll probably get grilled for this, but I don't give blood anymore. The last time I went I had to wait 3 hours when the line was super-short to get through. I will wait and give blood again when they make it where the process is quicker.

it goes fairly quick. I think that's a dumb reason to avoid donating. The inconvience to you doesn't compare to the incovenience someone goes through if they don't get the blood they need. It's saving a life not doing a chore.

I cant donate b/c I lived in London for 5 months in 1991. I think they are scared of mad cow disease. Sucks too, because I used to donate all the time and I cant do it anymore.

I donated about a month ago at University Towers.

I didn't feel faint, tired, or sick at any point.

For me I made sure that I
Drunk plently of fluids, Ate before I went, and didn't do any exercising that night

Also don't be a dork like that guy that donated beside me. He kept asking if he could get drunk faster after donating. They almost didn't let him leave.

that's why they run until seven, to try and give late comers a chance, but they can't be there forever.
