Make Dan Allen a two-lane, one-way road pointing North. Make Pullen a two-lane, one-way road pointing South.
All of those assfaces trying to turn left onto Pullen at 5:00 screw it up for the rest of us. Of course, this would require that they rip out that roundabout they put in on Pullen, but that wouldn't hurt my feelings. Not that I don't like the idea of traffic circles, but I hate sitting in line behind some moron who doesn't understand the difference between a yield and a stop sign and hasn't got the balls to gun it whenever there's an opening. 9/29/2004 8:11:38 AM |

what's with cent. shuttle not stopping but like 3 times now? it's a waste of bus-space.

how about instead, leave Pullen alone, and make half of Dan Allen one way going north, and the other half one way going south?9/29/2004 5:20:50 PM |

I want to know how transportation plans to handle all the increased travel to Centennial Campus next semester. It's only going to get more congested each semester. Get cracking on that people mover / monorail ASAP. 9/29/2004 7:35:15 PM |

how about jetsons sidewalks? seriously? 9/29/2004 9:44:45 PM |

Dude, I was thinking about that today. They need elevated sidewalks between Centennial and Main with those airport style walkways. 9/29/2004 10:45:41 PM |

This was actually proposed by a group of Transportation Engineering students 3 years ago who modeled this situation for a senior design project.

Ha! This was a lot more likely a decade ago when the economy was booming and people had a couple extra million to spend. NC State proposed to a company making people movers that they wanted to be a test site for a "brand new" type and that it would go between main and centennial in the spirit that centennial was all about innovation and research etc. problem was...nc state wanted it for free! they thought that they would be doing this company a service enough just by advertising. so as it turns out this company got eaten up by Daimler-Chrysler and daimler was [wisely] like hellll no we aint doing that. SO...that pretty much ends the real part of the story. I did some research on it back when i was on the university standing committee on Physical Environment transportation committee and they said that if students wanted it we could pay for it...i calculated the least possible sum up...bond...etc...worked out to $100/student MIN...SO....more likely is possibly some bus rapid transit of some sort. um yeah. not as cool looking but that's how the cookie seems to always crumble. grrr.

I would be willing to fork over $100 for that. I'd much rather it go to something practical like better transportation than renovating Thompson Theater or increasing distribution of the Nubian Message or whatever else they waste large quantities of money on around here. It's still in the master plan, isn't it? It's not like it's going to help me anyway since I only have one more year, but it would be really cool. 9/30/2004 1:25:08 PM |

I'd be willing to pay $100-$200/year to put in a monorail - provided there's also a part going across campus (from belltower to bragaw direction I mean) kinda like Varsity loop. I'd love to see the whole busses-blocking-traffic-on-campus thing come to an end. Replace Varsity with the monorail, add a stop in front of Nelson Hall and another one on that little road that fronts Western between Dan Allen and Avent Ferry, and a third behind all the parking areas near the Admin building and just eliminate buses on the internal roads altogether - all that would be left would be the external roads and Pullen Rd. I could map it out pretty easily except I'm not that artistic so it'd be stick figgers. Unfortunately even if I paid for it there's no way it'd be done before I've graduated ... 9/30/2004 8:08:46 PM |

There is a proposed $8 fee increase to add three more buses to the current Wolfline routes for Centennial Campus and Wolf Village apartments. Show up and discuss it.
They will need something soon though to facilitate better access between both campuses ... a catapult is kinda old fashioned, but would work if you did it right. Otherwise, the monorail (or something similar) is a very real possibility ... it'll be a necessity in 20 years when the student population reaches near 50,000. Somebody mentioned not seeing it until they graduate ... you'll probably see it by the time your kid is looking to attend college

how bout a subway system from main to centennial and around to some spots on campus? some people don't like the aesthetic appeal of superstructure such as a bridge deck or a monorail system. a monorail would also impose many noise issues for the surrounding businesses, especially the businesses that it is passing right over.
something has got to be done to accomodate the projected students that will be using centennial campus in the future. i believe that dan allen and pullen both need to be 4-laned and that is a real possibility, it could be funded i'm sure. i mean, the university got funding for that 'beautificaton project' for that branch beside bragaw, which has turned out to be a total waste of money.
anyways, my proposed subway system would run from near the intersection of avent ferry and western across mission valley and into centennial campus. completely take out mission valley and rebuild afterwards, put in a stop for mission valley. this wouldn't be an old train style subway, but the bullet type monorail, just underground. also, run the subway through pullen park to get to hillsborough street and run directly under hillsborough street, and put in stops along the way. the park could be reinstalled with no problem, and hillsborough could get a face lift along the way. so now, anyone wanted to go to cent. campus would just have to walk to hillsborough.
trust me, i just had this idea and will probably be shot down pretty hard, but it is just a thought. the monorail would be cheaper, i'm sure. 10/1/2004 12:31:42 PM |
