Registration and Records announces our new website and online student services application: Pack Tracks.
Our new web address, www.ncsu.edu/registrar replaces our former address of www.ncsu.edu/reg_records. Please change your bookmarks and direct any links to this new URL.
The site has been completely redesigned to compliment the design of the NC State homepage. Registration and Records' homepage features an announcement space to remind members of the NC State community of upcoming deadlines and events particular to our department. The new site includes all of the information that was available from the old site; however, the information has been reorganized and categorized similar to the NC State homepage. If you have trouble finding something, please feel free to send a comment to rr_comments@ncsu.edu.
Registration and Records has also redesigned the online student services application formerly known as TRACS Link. The system is now known as Pack Tracks, please refer to it as such in all future communication and publication. Pack Tracks is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, carries new features, and is usable on a handheld device such as a PDA.
we changed the URL because we are trying to be more aligned with what other universities use for their URL. AND because reg_records is such a strange thing to say on the phone - try explaining to people wwwdotncsudoteduforwardslashregunderscorerecords 1000 times a day!
I think they did a nice job. Things like request transcripts are right on the front page. You don't have to go hunting for them anymore. It just takes a little bit of time to get used to something new. The only thing I can't find right now are the grade distribution reports.
Changing something people are used usually never makes them happy. The question is whether the new interface is (functionally) better or worse than the old system.
Give a statistics/sociology/computer science (hci)/etc. student a project this summer. Have them perform various measurements and conduct various tests between the two systems. Using the incoming freshmen class during summer orientation as test subjects.
"The only thing I can't find right now are the grade distribution reports. "
The scripted page for grade distribution hasn't changed (if thats the one you had linked to).
Otherwise - click For Students or For Faculty/Staff or For Visitors and in the right hand column under Statistics are all the same stats we listed before on http://www.ncsu.edu/reg_records/stats.html.
""I think you should have waited to release this after all the bugs were worked out instead of right before class registration.""
we released the registration portion of the new Pack Tracks back in early Feb. that way students would see/use it while dropping classes and to make sure it could handle transactions. And so we could continue to work out its "bugs"
^ it would be very nice to see a VERY clear distinction between what is a 10-week course this summer and what is jsut a standard summer 1 or summer 2 class.
that said, and after looking at the cashier site...it would be so nice to see a consistency between all of the ncsu webpages. but i know that is never gonna happen..

10 week summer courses *should* appear all the way at the bottom of the screen (if the job runs correctly at night).
