Security - Service - Outage
The student government elections website vote.ncsu.edu was shut down just after 11pm on Sunday 3/26 due to an improper ballot submitted by the Elections Commission.
Information on when the Spring elections will be rescheduled will be posted once it is available.

They are breaking the rules in favor of part timers to get election results they prefer, and the administration seems to be unwilling to back down on a breaking of the rules. What’s the point in rescheduling?
I had thought a referendum might be the only way to get rid of student senate, but it seems they may manage to get themselves removed own their own.

I believe stafford/the administration said before hand that they wouldn't accept giving part timers the same election related benefits full timers/payers get, and that senate came out against not giving part timers full benefits.
I can only assume the improper ballat means that the stafford/the administration is standing behind what they said about no rule breaking earlier. - It seems like most of senates time is not spent being representative of students, so the removal of such a body doesn't hurt students at all.
The senate & election committee are taking a stand.
Its a stand. I'm not sure if they are right on the issue or not. But if they fail then it will prove again that they are ineffective. At their worst they reflect poorly on us, at their best they are ineffective. If they fail, and I dont see how they wont b/c the administration doesn't seem to want to back down on giving part timers full benefits, then they have no legs left to stand on. And if they push the issue far enough, then not having elections is a possiblity.
I think going a year without student government, and then a fresh start might be just what we need.

I think people should be e-mailing Vice Chancellor Tom Stafford thanking him for putting an end to this joke of a student government election, and encouraging him not to back down until they can behave more representatively and within the rules. tom_stafford@ncsu.edu 3/27/2006 5:40:22 PM |

others are already calling and e-maling him thanking him. i'd rather have the administration, who is the only one with any power, on my side than a non representative student government who is trying to impeach the last president who was elected TPC at the end of his term. this is the closest to any political revolution/real student interest in politics that I've seen during my nearly up 4 years at ncsu, and I'd like for people to thank Stafford for that. 3/27/2006 5:56:39 PM |

Quote : | "Dear Dr. Stafford, This is just a brief thanks for putting a halt to the elections of a non-representative student government group that was trying to operate outside of their own rules. I much prefer the feeling that the administration is on the side of the students, rather than the squabbling student senate/elections committee who seem to be spending all their time trying to impeach elected representatives. Gratefully, Jake A. Goad " |
Heres the e-mail I just sent him ^^Have you sent one yet?
Also urge him to consider a direct democracy where everyone votes using the online system rather than a republic with an unrepresentative senate. This could bypass all the troubles senate causes without disenfranchising the students. A university isn't so large and abstract that a senate is required, especially one with the voting system resources we have.

Cody has my vote for as long SG is around.
But heres a site that explains 2 ways the revolution could actually occur. http://ncst.facebook.com/group_profile.php?gid=9569
And heres a discussion of how we could keep our representation w/o a student senate. http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=397139 3/27/2006 7:15:43 PM |

I find so much joy in the fact that you losers have actually spent time trying to find ways to get rid of SG, and it's not going anywhere

heres a group for the removal of student senate, and a discussion of what could replace them http://ncst.facebook.com/group_profile.php?gid=9569 http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=397139
if not voting is the way you want to go, make your message clear by also e-mailing Vice Chancellor Tom Stafford at tom_stafford@ncsu.edu
Several people have already been calling him and leaving him thanking him for standing up to the unrepresentative student senate for breaking its own rules by trying to give part time payers full time benefits. I think its clear that they atleast somewhat want this to get election outcomes they desire, rather than fair representation b/c before all this they were in the middle of impeaching the president that we all elected. I think a direct democracy, everyone votes using the online system, and cutting out the middlemen resume builders would be better... atleast for a replacement of senate... as dicussed in the thread I linked" |
I've said stuff like this. It didn't actually take much time to realize the ways to remove student senate are by administrative action or by students voting for an end to senate. I don't understand why you sound angry and feel a need to insult people just b/c you've already accepted that things will return to the normal bad cycle. The remaining factions of student gov & the administration (which is the only ppl with any power anyways) could find a new balance so that no duties are neglected, and so that most issues are handled by a vote of everyone.
