What took you so long Greg?

Brunson got robbed plenty of times and he never quit.

Does your friend have insurance? That's a form of gambling.

Just got off PP, just wanted to say there are few things in hold 'em that piss me off more than someone who calls a pot-sized bet TWICE and hits their long lost flush on the river to beat my two pair....

I am only a beginning poker player and don't know all the terminologies yet.

Should I create a new thread for that or can we keep it in here?

Particularly stuff like, gut shot straight draw, inside straight, etc etc.

I mean someone can make a thread called Poker Terminology if you want.

Sure, ask away.

A gut shot straight draw and an inside straight draw are one in the same. Let's say the flop is A 8 9 and you have 7/5 in your hand. You have an inside, or "gut shot" straight draw because only one card (6) will give you your straight. It is normally not a draw you want to stay in on, except in a few rare circumstances.

If you take this same flop (A 8 9), there are 3 possible outside straight draws: 10/J 10/7 or 6/7. The odds here are much better, since you have 8 cards that would give you a straight instead of just 4.

I'll tell ya... Party Poker is really starting to get frustrating. This morning was one of many typical hands that have I have encountered in the past few days:

I am in a 10 person tourney, pays out top 3 (this is how I have been making all my $$). I go the first 2 blind cycles without even playing a hand. I have always found that I can play really tight and about half the table goes away in 25 hands. This of course lets someone get a huge stack, but normally, I get a "read" on them and figure out how to take it from them. Well, as usual, one guy has a huge stack and I am sitting right around 800 (my initial buy-in.) The big stack guy is loose as hell, raising with anything and calling with anything. So anyways, I get KK, am in first position, and limp by just calling. He raises (just doubles the big blind, as he had 75% of the time). I reraise to like 350, which is like 290 on top of his, and he just calls, which is exactly what I expected. So anyways, flop comes A J 3.... and so I am in the proverbial guessing game about whether or not dipshit has an ace. I check to him, and he bets the minimum amount. As I said before, he's a loose player, and I figure this is my best chance to double up, so I go all-in over top of him (right around a 400 chip raise). He thinks about it for a few seconds, and then calls, and flips over Q4 offsuit, so I am golden. But just as quickly, the turn and the river come, a Q and then a 4, so I lose to his 2 pair, Q's and 4's.

This is definitely one of the worst examples I can think of, but shit like this seems to happen all the time. I use to think I could overcome and adapt to it, but I have found that on Party Poker, cards are almost all that matters because people just WILL NOT fold. I cringe when I get KK, because invariably, an ace comes on the flop, and no matter how hard I raise preflop, I will get a caller, and that caller will be holding A4 offsuit. It is just very very frustrating.

A long time ago I really was feeling PP was crooked, so I deleted it and wrote them a really long email telling them so. I did a few statistical analysis over the course of a week, definitely not super scientific, but I counted the number of times at a table of 10 people that people had AA vs KK, and it was very different than the normal distribution would predict. Sometimes I really really feel that PP cheats to keep poor players coming back for more, thinking they are good, thus pulling in more $$. As dumb as it may sound, sometimes I think they then put a "hex" on my account that lays these bad beats on me. Do you think that is possible? I know it sounds stupid, but I am trying to find someway to rationalize how this shit happens.

^^I agree too. I play on PP and on Empire, and its amazing the bad beats you get.....I have flopped a set of aces many times, gone all in, and people call me with pocket suited cards, and only one of their suits on the flop, and they catch them on the turn and river to make the flush. And its does seem true that you can hardly bet people out of pots. Some dumbass will call with anything, and wind up beating you on the river. Its annoying as fuck.

the most annoying thing is that i hit a set, bet like $1 and no one calls. a stupid set like trip 6's or something.

i raise preflop with A/Q suited and 2 people call. Q/9/4 and the big blind called with 9/4 suited and calls every bet and nails me... Why don't they fucking catch when i have a set???

bah...

I've taken to playing pot limit for this very reason because that chance that someone won't get a huge lead early is better. It usually still happens but at least I can hang around longer and try and catch cards. It only takes me one great hand to lure and idiot into drawing dead and calling with nothin when I was holding nuts all along.

No, thats luck buddy. Hate to break it to you, but when you dont have the cards you dont have the cards.....luck is an integral part of poker. Even the best player in the world needs it every once in a while. So don't act like he got shitty hands cuz he 'played' bad, no amount of masterful playing will magically produce a great hand from nothing.

Well

I'm not sure what he means by 10 games

But if he means 10 tourney style games then the statistics alone says he should at least flop any of trips, 2 pairs, flushes, straights, even full houses more than what he just claimed.

I've played plenty of hands and I know this is true. I've went through long stretches as well. Heck, in any given tourny I am not suprised to sit for 45-1hr and not get a hand but at least once in a reasonable time frame I get hands better than what he just claimed.

yup, and i even won the hand with the two queens, along with 2 other hands on a bluff

i've just had shitty luck with getting good cards

Halo,
My thinking was this.

Pre Flop raise would get out the 4's. I had top pair, top kicker. I did not call an all in with 2 pair, I made the all in. I could not even think someone would be playing a 4 for $1.15 raise pre flop.

Just kind of a shitty hand, not only did one person call the preflop raise, both the other 4's were in the hand. Seriously, one shows 7/4 suited, the other A/4 off.

Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
