Yeah, pretty much.

I'd even go a step further, and suggest that I'm not convinced he's even that great of a recruiter. At least not great enough to overcome his coaching deficiencies.. he's got a long hole to climb out of. I hope he does, im just not holding my breath.

So, just curious about everyone's views/ideas.

If we win no conference games what happens to Doeren, the coaching staff, Debbie Yow, and the team?

If we win 1-3 conference games, what happens?

If we win 4+ conference games, what happens?

If we (by some chance of God and luck) win every conference game, what happens?

0 and I'm ok with firing him.
1 I'd be ok, but we could be like 5-7 with just one conf win so I think he'd just be on a real hot seat
2-3 is what I expect so.. Probably a bowl game and nothing would happen
4-5 would be awesome, maybe 7-8-9 wins. Still nothing would happen
6-8 isn't happening, unless Jacoby is some sort of monster and the uf coaches are retarded. Still nothing, but probably a raise

No matter who our coach was last year, he was gonna be in a big hole. The cupboard was bare.

And unless he goes 0-8 again, I really don't see him being fired next year. You gotta at least give a guy a chance.

I agree. He needs at least 16 chances to win an ACC game.

He hasn't shown to be a great recruiter yet, nor a very good one. He has done well putting together a large class that gives a few great potential players and good shots across the board to give solid depth.

But that's all hypothetical and projecting and shit, and all I know is this mug goes for it on 4th down on his own 26 or something, and ain't won a single game in conference.

this year, if he wins 0 games in conference, fired. if he wins 1 game, fired.

2-4 WTNY, maybe even 2

5+ i retract all my bullshit from this past season, dude might be our long term answer at coach. Debbie gives a 4 year extension.

Pete fucking Thomas and Brandon Mitchell were our QBs last year. Of course we didn't win any conference games.

Calm down a bit.

oh yes lets assume Jacoby Brissett will be good enough to lead us to ACC wins

[Edited on April 1, 2014 at 8:46 PM. Reason : maybe he will do better this spring game]

I'm not thinking Brissett is the second coming. But I really think he's gotta be a sizable upgrade from the Thomas/Mitchell disaster.

Uhhhhh, doesn't every coach have to depend on untested QB's every few years?? And don't most teams go about a far as the qb takes them?

That's not the point I was making. If a coach has to rely on the skill of his QB, without being able to coach him to competent levels, then that coach fucking sucks at coaching.

It's not like we haven't had bad QBs before. We have. A halfway competent coach can get at least one conference win out of them, though.

please take this silly talk to the credibility thread, and we can have a discussion over there about how doeren didn't coach-up pete thomas over the course of one season.

It's not that I'm incapable of separating the two items. It's just that until he shows that he can win in the ACC, his recruiting rankings will be irrelevant.

Still, though...that high school playoff experience should come in handy when we play Charlotte Independence.

Probably means he sucks. Come on, look at UNC. You gotta recruit dummies not scholar athletes if you wanna win.

I'm no expert in football recruiting, but I don't put a lot of stock in ratings of offensive lineman. First, they don't normally play right away...so you usually get a chance to develop them. You can put a lot of weight, strength, and skill on in a couple years. You can't teach size...so as long as they are tall and have a frame to put weight on...then that's good.

Our last two extremely highly recruited o-lineman haven't amounted to shit. Derek Morris was fucking abysmal and Crisp has been injured half the time (still hoping he has a final solid season).

So you won't see me getting depressed over NR o-lineman. Get 'em in and get 'em fed and hope they develop.

Offensive line is where the bread is buttered in college football.

You rarely seen a truly dominant team that doesn't have a monster line. Just look at Bama for example, their most top rated prospects annually tend to be linemen and their skill positions (outside of Julio) have been a bunch of overrated prospects or flat out busts.

I've seen suggestions that Walton will be at high-end 3* by the time he's evaluated.

Huge frame, use to be a competitive swimmer, still learning the position. Last article I read sounded like he'd mostly been used on DL but is switching exclusively to OT to prepare for college. Obviously not a candidate to come in and be an impact player day 1, but 6'7" and athletic, shouldn't be hard to bulk him up to a more appropriate playing weight. Plenty of potential.

With the limited scholarship numbers this year, anyone we accept a commitment from this early is likely someone the coaches really want.

i'm not going to take the time to look up all the recruiting rankings...but given how good Alabama has been recently, I have a hard time believing that only their linemen have panned out as recruits.

^^ What's not to understand? Outside of Julio, who's tearing it up from there?

Ingram and Richardson have been the biggest names since, and I wouldn't say either has set the world on fire. Lacey had a good rookie year, but I'm not ready to crown him at all after 1 year.

The left side of that line went that won back to back titles, went back to back as well in the draft last year at 10 and 11. Barrett Jones went in the 4th. That line was as dominate as anything we've seen lately in cfb.

Are we talking about Bama players in the NFL? Because that's not really a fair assessment of how good those recruits were in college.

I mean we won games with Marcus Stone at QB and he couldn't complete 50% of the short passes.
