I don't really follow the NBA much, so this might be a naive question...

To Mark Cuban's point, why don't many of the 1 and done prospects who have a lot of buzz coming out of high school just go to the D league, get paid immediately, and not have to worry about all of the bullshit that comes with being a "student" athlete?

seems they could focus solely on basketball, and if they play well, make an NBA roster faster than they would going through college. I'm probably missing something major, but enlighten me.

The college path is still better, for now. They get the college experience, and more public visibility on a national level. It's probably a pretty good feeling knowing millions of people are watching you on a weekly basis, especially come tourney time. I don't think the money in the d-league is really worthwhile, especially for high school recruits who will end up as obvious lottery picks anyway.

the insane exposure and (currently) what i assume is better competition. also, depending on which school you go to (UNCCH*) you will get paid more anyway and it's not like you will have to worry about classes or that reading nonsense.

Yeah, they're probably getting "paid" the same amount with housing/dining/cash under the table. Developmental league guys don't get paid shit. Top class facilities, celebrity status on campus, national exposure, etc. all seem more appealing than playing in Erie in front of 150 people and living on $250 a week.

Any high major pays you more than the D-League. And let's face it, the women in fucking Fort Wayne or Canton are pretty rough compared to a Chapel Hill or Gainesville.

plus, I don't think D-League scouts are out promising infinite college age penis worship. perhaps they need to step their scouting game up.

It also hasn't really been talked about as a viable option. Mark Cuban is pretty much the only guy touting this idea. I bet if you had three or four big time high school guys do this next year and it worked out, you'd see more head that route. But no one is going to give up a year of college pampering and being on ESPN twice a week for something that is unproven.

Brandon Jennings did the Europe thing for a year and it worked out for him...but he's not an All-Star and he's also the only person to do it in recent memory.

for the d-league to work as cuban has said they need to pay more and get players called up more regularly and for more than 2-3 games as end of the bench 3rd point guard options.

Baseball really has the best system. Either go straight from high school or have a minimum required time spent in college. One and done is a joke since those guys really just have to stay eligible for 1 semester and then can stop going to class in the second semester. There's no education, no student athlete, none of that is real with the current set up.

The D league doesnt pay shit. You get like 30k a year. If they actually made it a viable minor league system they might have something (and college basketball would be fucked) but they're a long ways off from that.

The human element is that kids want to be with people their own age, not a bunch of european pros and NBA has-beens nor never-beens doing a job. There is no camaraderie on pro teams where the roster is in flux and everyone is looking to leave.

i think hockey probably has a better system than baseball. players can get drafted at 18, yet can still play in college. pro team retains their rights tho.

Chad Ford didn't have Warren in his top 30 the last list he put out, so not surprising he wouldn't have him in his top 14 even without the freshmen. Ford is just really low on Warren, plenty of others are high on him. Warren is a lock to get a 1st round grade.

That jump shot over Christmas towards the end of the game was unreal. Also, two huge FT's at the end.

Greatest State player I've seen in my lifetime. Don't think it's even close.
