I can't stand their ranking system of good/fair.

Do they even realize how small the glass and sensors are in these phones? They may be good/fair when compared to DSLRs, but sheesh. Darn good for a phone.

Droid X is too damn big. I hate the current trend of these massive phones. One of the great things about the Eris was the size.

From what I've read, no. I did find that it's apparently possible to root 1.49 though. There's one guy that's posted a video and a 37 page thread trying to figure out how he did it because nobody else can. Maybe they'll get it eventually but I'll be gone by then.

Also, installed K9 mail today. 43 emails and it was 10x better than the stock app. It's still not perfect but it'll be much easier to live with until I replace it at least.

Thanks to everyone for the help & suggestions. I'm pretty much at a crossroads and I think it's time that I choose the new phone.

^Is the Evo you paid the deposit on going to be on a new Sprint contract? If so, just get it and then return it within 30 days and get all your money back That's probably what I'm doing since those fuckers have been wasting my time for the past 10 days checking the website to see if it's in stock. Then I'll buy the Galaxy whenever it comes out. They should just allow people to order it while it's out-of-stock like Amazon or Dell do.

^True, but Verizon is mega$ compared to Sprint, even after the $10 surcharge. Unless you use next to no minutes and don't care about full-discount upgrades every 12 months.

^Interesting... I had Verizon for years before switching to AT&T for the iPhone. What's considered a "granny plan"? If it's like AT&T with the iPhone (and only with the iPhone, unfortunately), you only get the yearly upgrade when spending over $100 on the primary line, IIRC. Sprint gives it to you when you spend >$69.99 on the primary or >$99.99 on a family plan.

It's actually 49.99 and above if you're on My Verizon. So that covers all normal family plans and all of the individual plans except the 450 minute Nationwide Talk.

^^^^ & ^^That's awesome! When did they go and do this early upgrade on $49.99/$79.99? Either it was sometime after 2007 or my reps were purposefully holding out on me

You guys have made my decision more difficult now. I don't use minutes as much as data, so the extra minutes don't even matter to me on Sprint. I don't really use texts either outside of Google Voice. So the only added benefit I'd have on Sprint vs. Verizon is what? Cheap insurance & SprintTV? WTF is SprintTV anyway?

not sure but it's been at least a couple years. I believe their VIP program had it also which was plans 79.99 or more but they canned that program this past February.

Quote :
"What do I have to do to get a new phone with Annual Upgrade?
You must be registered for My Verizon, be on a calling plan of $49.99 or higher and have completed at least 1 year of a 2-year contract and agree to renew for an additional 2 years in order to get a new phone at a promotional price. It’s as easy as that."

Guess HTC is finally deciding to do something about the shortage

Quote :
"HTC running low on AMOLED stock, will add SLCD to the mix for some models
By Chris Ziegler posted Jun 25th 2010 at 7:52PM

AMOLED displays in phones haven't necessarily lived up to their promise; they'd been billed as the be-all, end-all answer for clarity, vibrance, and low power consumption, but in reality, the latest and greatest LCDs look just as good, offer similar viewing angles, have little to no impact on battery life, and fare far better in direct sunlight. We've been able to confirm this evening that HTC will be adding an additional supplier of displays later this year -- Sony -- which will be delivering its Super TFT LCD tech as a mobile exclusive (initially, at least) to key HTC handsets, some of which are already in the marketplace.

Specifically, Samsung's had a devil of a time keeping up with deliveries of its 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, which means that the Desire, Droid Incredible, and Nexus One could all theoretically be impacted -- but because this is a problem of the demand for displays outstripping supply (or at least the supply that Samsung is letting HTC buy), at least some of the affected phones will likely be offered both in AMOLED and SLCD varieties. How those products will be differentiated in the market is unclear, but it may not matter much -- we're told that the displays are virtually indistinguishable. We're working to get our hands on an SLCD phone just as soon as we can, and when we do, we'll put our eyeballs on the case.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Droid Incredible available for a bit after launch? Or has it been out of stock with no shipments since then? Because other than for a short 4-5 hour window at the beginning of last week, Sprint has been out of stock on the Evo since I think the day after launch. At least Verizon has the Droid X coming. Sprint's got shit unless their version of the Galaxy launches on the rumored date that T-Mobile is launching it (July 21), which seems highly unlikely, especially given that their version has the hardware keyboard, which isn't available on any other version thus far.

From what I've read, the Evo is HTC's fourth phone in a row with supply issues. They seem to design great phones, but don't seem to be run that well otherwise.

I'd just go with the Droid X based on what you guys have said about upgrade intervals, but no front-facing camera is bothering me. Then again, none of these Android phones seems to have the complete package. Evo has great screen and nice design, but has pretty terrible framerates as seen in the video comparison above with the Droid X and the Nexus using the JIT on Froyo; it also doesn't have a Super-AMOLED screen. Samsung Galaxy has S-AMOLED and the Hummingbird processor, but no flash. Droid X has good GPU, hardware keyboard, but no front-facing-camera. It's also even heavier than the Evo, which is already pushing it, at least to me.

I honestly wish they'd get iPhone 4 to run 2.1 or 2.2 and soon (i.e. before it's surpassed probably come Christmas by some as-yet-unannounced phone that has all the best features). I'd buy an unlocked one and be done with it. I always use a case with my phones, so I wouldn't have to worry about my hand attenuating the signal either

rumor is that AT&T might pick up the Moto Flipout.

another phone that isn't even as powerful as the droid with a weird form factor.

2.8" screen, keyboard flips around, 600MHz TI OMAP, 512MB RAM, Android 2.1 with Blur

The version of blur >>> the one on the backflip/clix but doesn't make it worth buying. If AT&T didn't pick up the Desire for whatever reason and they pick up this...

Phones like the Aria (a nice mid-range phone) and the Captivate (potential superphone) made me optimistic about the direction AT&T's android plans were going. I'd like them to get more motorola phones, but I'd like them to be more like the droid and droid x than the backflip and flipout

I put in my preorder for the Droid X yesterday. First at the store at White Oak (not really surprising). At first I was glad that I didn't have to deal with the $100 MIR from Verizon but now I have to keep track of this $50 bby gift card instead.

How much data syncing do you do? If change the way your phone is allowed to sync data your battery life should increase a LOT. I told my phone it isn't allowed to sync data in the background if the phone is inactive more than 10 minutes, and doing that and just checking my phone when I'm not busy allows me to get all day with ~1-2 hours of streaming pandora, and plenty of leisure browsing and motoblur syncing my social networks when I feel like browsing those.

If there's a way to do it online I couldn't find it. I literally wrote down my info on a piece of paper and they put it in a folder so I highly doubt you could do it online.

I'm actually not entirely sure about this. I hope they can do it there because I'm with AT&T and will be switching to Verizon for the first time when I pick up this phone. I think they can because I was there waiting for half an hour as they set up these other people with new phones and service. I'm not sure because both people got new service with AT&T. I should have asked while I was there.
