yeah, I'm still playing around with spare parts some to adjust the colors. They currently have Smoked Glass Blue, Drop, and Luna themes available. And don't be clock or temp hatin. I like seeing the weather temp, cpu temp and time regardless of what app I'm in.

so is sapphire the only FRF83-based 'custom' release thus far?

FRF83 is a nexus one rom. Some are still based off of the FRF57 Droid leak and there's a couple that are source based but Sapphire was the first. Believe Jrummy and Pete have a source based one out too. Still waiting on a cyanogen based one though.

lol The difference in benchmark scores between stock and oc'd to 800MHz with Froyo is insane.

I wish that page had 320x480 devices

http://blogs.computerworld.com/16420/samsung_galaxy_s

Looks like AT&T or Sprint will have the best Galaxy S variant. The full details on each phone don't seem to be clear, but the Captivate will have 16GB of internal memory, and the Epic 4G gets a hard keyboard

^^that's the one i have but thought it was taken down (i got a themed 1.56 in the first 24 hours, but all were removed shortly thereafter from xda and thought they did the same on CM), he must have put them back up or this is a new thread... huh. anyhow, he doesn't have the blue for droid yet

i'm looking for the 1.56 version of this:

do you guys think there's any truth to this rumor that verizon is already discontinuing the Incredible? i already have an incredible on order (god knows if it will ever arrive) and really don't want something as big as the X

http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/06/28/shortages.may.kill.droid.incredible.early/

Quote :
"Verizon cast doubt on the future of the Droid Incredible late on Sunday with word that it was steering customers away from the phone. Those who are now facing a one-month delay for the Android device are now being told they can switch the order to a Droid X. The Motorola phone isn't due to ship until July 15 but will still arrive sooner than Incredible orders, which now don't ship until July 26 at best."

They can't keep the things on the shelves. No way they're getting rid of it so soon.

Don't believe everything you read. Verizon has responded to the numerous rumors that the HTC Droid Incredible has reached it's end-of-life, telling Mobile Burn that's simply not the case.

It makes sense -- the phone is hugely popular, and they even adjusted the manufacturing process and parts list to try to keep up with demand. All rumors aside, isn't offering your customers an alternative when you're out of stock simply a mark of good customer service? Let's not read too much into things, folks. So for those of you not interested in the Motorola Droid X and holding out for the Incredible, sit tight -- Big Red hasn't forgotten you."

We've heard from a number of you today that the Sprint Evo 4G's update that was pushed out this morning has left your phones pretty inoperable. And while the odd brick happens, this one appears to be a bit more common. And as such, Sprint has pulled the update, telling MobileCrunch:

While the vast majority of consumers successfully downloaded and installed the most recent HTC EVO 4G software update, we have received a handful of reports from customers having some issues with the update. In light of this, HTC and Sprint have decided to temporarily halt distribution of this software release until we can investigate further. We expect to be able to resume software updates shortly.

There's more than one thread in our Evo 4G forums detailing the carnage, but we've got our fingers crossed that this will all be made good soonest. "

NO IPHONE ON VERIZON!

Quote :
"Verizon’s top brass reportedly met with employees on Saturday in order to fill them in on the new initiatives, including a massive advertising campaign and the upcoming Droid 2 launch. They also definitely decided not to carry Apple’s iPhone.

The news arrived on the heels of the Droid X introduction last week, the iPhone 4 launch, and a recent AT&T re-branding. As you know, there’s simply no stopping Verizon’s aggressive marketing machinery.

Just as the dust has settled regarding Verizon’s anti-AT&T and anti-Apple advertising blitzkrieg from last year, they will unleash a new advertising campaign to promote their growing family of Droid-branded smartphones. Folks keeping their fingers crossed for a new round of mocking commercials are in for a surprise because this year’s campaign will apparently steer away from the iPhone and AT&T references completely.

With a Droid successor, the Droid X, being put on the map, the nationwide campaign will revolve around the “Summer of Droid” theme. According to the Droid-Life website that claims a solid track record of accurate Android reporting, the campaign will culminate with the Droid 2 release in August. The commercials will allegedly air on Monday and sport the “Rule the Air!” slogan, in addition to new logos that will prominently feature the “Verizon” part of the company name.

Verizon will kickstart a nationwide campaign following the Droid X launch last week.

Also, Sunday’s closure of select stores slated for 4 p.m. might be connected to the new campaign, although no media outlet had this on good authority at press time. Verizon’s executives also concluded they can do without Apple’s iPhone after all, thanks to the Android momentum and the steam they picked up thanks to their aggressive Droid marketing. Hence, no Verizon iPhone anytime soon. Disappointed?

so does the swype keyboard do away with the ability to speak text input? i remember the microphone button being there on the other keyboard, but not on the swype keyboard.

i learned that the advanced app killer has a widget that when you click it kills apps and shows available memory. pretty handy.

so, I will finally be up for a new phone in about 4 weeks (with Verizon). As much as my LG Dare has been the best non-smartphone I have ever used by miles, I'm ready to move on to a true smartphone.

Based on the timing for when I will be eligible for a new phone when a renewed contract, I'm trying to figure out my options here. I really liked what I read about the Incredible (besides possible battery life concerns) but with that being so back-ordered and not shipping until the end of this month, it might be awhile before I could get one I'm guessing. The Moto Droid is still a good phone and I was seriously considering that, but it is somewhat "old," by phone and Android standards and now especially with the Droid X coming out. Normally, I'd be excited to just get the Droid, but knowing that this will be my phone for the next 2 years, it would be nicer to get something that is pretty new at the time I renew. (Although I do know that the Droid X would be significantly bigger than my Dare whereas the Droid and Incredible are not)

I'm not as in tune with the smartphone market as you guys are; what kind of availability do you think the Droid X will have when it releases? Will I be able to walk in to a VZW store in late July and get one? Will I need to be pre-ordering? Or will there be such a huge demand that I will be out of luck for a few months?

Always appreciate the help.

The really should've updated the GPU in the Droid X to the 540 instead of using the same one from the Droid, granted it's still supposed to be about 80% faster. The Galaxy S is a beast on paper but the reviews have been kind of meh.

It's retarded that you can only display video and picture over HDMI from inside the gallery app. So apparently it's only available for content you created. :carl face:

^this may be a dumb question, but don't pictures & videos that you put on the phone show up in the gallery?

nevermind, i thought you were emphasizing the "that you created", as if you could only show pictures & videos that were taken with the phone... but you're probably more referring to not being able to watch like youtube or live video and other stuff.

yeah. The way it sounded on the podcast is that only created content can be displayed over HDMI though. It's funny that you can rent and download a video from blockbuster but can't display it on tv.

pyttndal, I can't upgrade my google maps because I have BB/Froyo. I heard I can do some crazy update method by force unintalling the app, or upgrade to the newest BB.

I'm just a bit nervous about this whole thing because I have little knowledge about it. Where is the latest BB? Should I just do that?

Download Terminal Explorer from Market,

Open Terminal Explorer, type in each command below in sequential order.

su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system
rm system/app/Maps.apk
cd system/bin
sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system
sync

Done.

Only problem I had was once I reinstalled Maps it had the original icon again, not the themed icon, so downloading the latest build of whatever custom ROM you're using is probably the safest.

Bugless Beast v0.3 which should be the latest. Not sure if it will have the map fix or not
http://alldroid.org/tabid/62/g/posts/t/388/ROM-STABLE-Bugless-Beast-V0-3-Android-2-2.aspx

Yeah, that's the method I used. Bugless beast should have a shortcut for the mount options. Thinks it's sysrw for the first one and sysro for the last.
