somehow i had a game of axis and allies get so heated that we had to play a long ass game of poker to settle something and then go back into axis and allies....i dont remember what caused it but alcohol was involved.

yes he had me beat preflop, but i raised to $4, i had 2 callers, i put them on either AK or lower pair...seeing AKQ, and having a tray, i, like any other player, would assume that i had the best hand assuming they were on overs or lower pocket pair..i didn't put them on aces/kings adn i knew they din't have the 10J

^^You didn't put him on AA, KK or J10 after the checkraise? Were you drunk, or stupid?

I've got a pretty good idea which one.......

Dude, lay off my man Jake. Sure, it wasn't a bad beat. But we all know in Party Poker a check raise after that flop could mean the guy had A3. And I know none of you cracka ass crackas would have folded your boat after the river either, and probably not before.

I just love when bad players get mad about taking bad beats, and I especially love when they complain about getting beat in a hand where they were beat the whole time. It's hilarious.

By the way, Jim, how is the change of scenery going?

last weekly texas game myself and another player both held a 10 and king, making a straight with the showing cars. It was strange, we split the pot. I also lost many times in this game, with hands liek a full house, a straight, and 2 pair.

naw they can stay the same, thats just something most players never account for at least from what I have seen playing poker, everyone forgets about the flush, especially about how high it ranks for how easy it seems to be able to get

"Turner won a $1100 pot in Atlantic City last night with NINE-HIGH, after making a fucking fantastic read on a guy who was on a straight draw.

Daaaaaaamn, son."

And so the story goes...

I had 9d6d utg, a hand I always love ($2/5 NL table btw)... and so I limped in for $5... someone raised to $25, and 4 or 5 people called in front of me, and with almost everyone at the table with $500 or more in front of them (I had about $500), I made the call. The flop came J53, rainbow... the blinds checked, I checked, and the raiser bet $30. I knew he had nothing but maybe AK or AQ or he would've raised a lot higher, but to my surprise, everyone else called the $30. Now I'd been tight the whole time at the table, so noone expected a bluff from me, and I was pretty sure anyone with a jack would've reraised the $30 bet, so I put $200 on top (the pot was already $275 or so).

The original raiser folded, but the next guy called... he had had called with EVERY single draw he had all night (and had caught a lot and thus built up the big stack of about $3500). The other players folded and I was pretty damn sure the caller had a straight draw, 4-6 being the obvious hand to put him on. So the turn came an A, and I went all in for another $230. He called, the river was a face card, and I flipped over my 9-6, stood up, and said, "9 high. It's good, isn't it!" He had an absolutely disgusted look on his face, and mucked his cards. I dragged an $1,100 pot.

I figured him for 46 of course, but he left the table a little while later, and someone who had been standing behind him at the time and who'd seen his cards when he held them up to some people after the hand was over told me the guy had 4-7!! He called on an inside straight draw on the flop, and then on a double belly buster on the turn.

Played my first $50 on partypoker last night, and got cleaned out on NL $25 hold 'em tables. It was exceptionally frustrating b/c when I went up against bad players, they outdrew me, and the good players used their position better than me. I can't remember all the bad beats I took, but I know I lost A-10 to A-Jack, and Ace-Jack to Ace-Queen, gutshot straights, a runner runner flush that I BET hard and the fucker still stayed in.

I'm a much more conservative player, and usually am pretty good at making reads. I play premium hands and am starting to think either I played the wrong tables or should stay outa PartyPoker altogether.

Anyone got any advice. Sure as hell could use some.

hey david, is your stat thing through pp or some alternate program that reads the table logs?

i play on pp very little, but havent found a stat tracker. on ub its pretty obvious.. im probably just missing it somewhere.

i was thinking of whipping up a java program to read the logs, but i dont want to have to waste that half hour of time if i dont have to.

were those stats from a holdem table or omaha? 10 top sit-n-go?

Erios........try playing nothing but $20 NL tourneys. I've made $800 in the past few days by playing nothing but those $20 tourneys. I'm a pretty tight player and make pretty solid reads.

David.........what kind of tourney do you want to play? Huge multi or a 3-table multi? I've got a show tonight, but I'll be home around 11pm or so.

Erios: First of all, A-10 sucks at a 10 person table. If you are complaining that A-10 lost to A-J you probably aren't playing too conservative. Always reraise the better if you think your hand is good. If you are just calling down to the river you are usually beat. If you reraise on the flop then you can determine your hand is no good if they go all in, or they call and you can probably put them on some sort of draw or weak hand, or they fold and you win. It is a good way to get a lot of information out of your opponent. Second, $50 is a pretty small bankroll. I have opened up 4 $25 NL tables and busted out of all 4 in 30 minutes. Thats $100 down the drain. You have to have a big enough bankroll even if you are just playing one table. I would do what gabrainos (lil g) suggested. After I played a lot of .5/1 limit (low stakes) just to get my bonus, I played a ton of $10 nl single table tournaments until I built my bankroll up to $200.

Pilgrimshoes: Right click your name and you can view stats. If you right click other peoples' names, you can type in player notes for that person.

You guys should play with us in person sometime.

Greg: I usually stick to $30 single table tournaments just because I do not have enough time to dedicate to anything larger than those.

On that hand we went to the river, and I correctly read he didn't have squat. Problem was he out kicked me. Annoyed the shit out of me. Also I picked up a top pair of 9s with K9, only to see someone NOT IN THE BLIND beat me with 9,3 offsuit (he had two pair). It was one bad beat after another despite it being NL. Plus I ran into some guys using good position skills, and I was a little timid after getting spanked on those bad hands.

I think I'll steer clear of internet poker until I feel I can play without worrying about losing. Money's too tight nowadays to be dropping $50 a night and shrugging it off. I'll leave the real games to you guys.

You're gonna take bad beats online, as in real life. Get used to it. It sounds tho, really, like you need to be more aggressive with your pre-flop betting and you also need to learn to fold top pair or A-x.

Let me give you my take on the K9 vs 93 hand:

I am not sure whether there was a preflop raise here or not. I am assuming you are playing .50/1.00 blinds, but let's assume there was no preflop raise. There is absolutely no reason for you to be playing K9 if there is a raise, unless there are like tons of callers, because K9 is also a very shitty hand. If there wasn't a raise (which we are assuming to be the case) then you should be 100% prepared to put your opponent on ANY hand, especially online. I figure the flop was 9-3-x. If the guy comes out betting strong, there is really no reason to think your K-9 is good (unless he is really loose, and then I would still be hesitant.) He could have an overpair (10's or such), A-9, or even worse for you, he could have hit a set. These are all very feasible hands, and they all beat your K-9.

Here are some really good guidelines for top pair:

-If you raise a LARGE amount (like 5x the big blind), on AK or AQ, and you get 1 caller, and you hit top pair, it is most likely good. The only exceptions to this is if the guy called with a low pocket pair and hit a set, or perhaps h had suited connectors and hit 2 pair.

-If someone else raises a large amount, and you hit top pair, it is about 50/50 that it will be good. He could be raising with JJ, or AA... who knows. It's tough to get a read on people online, especially when you only have sat at the table for a few hands.

-If there are no raises and you hit top pair, it is probably no good, especially if there are more than 1 or 2 people in the hand. I always bet my top pair, and see what happens. If I get reraised I generally fold (cause he probably has a set or 2 pair, or a better kicker). If the guy calls he either has me crushed and is playing me like a fiddle, or he is on a draw. Figure out if there are any flush or straight draws, and determine whether you think he is calling with a superior hand. If you think he has a better hand, stop betting. If you think he is on a draw, bet the shit out of it to either make him fold, or make it be a very expensive draw. Here's the catch tho, don't be afraid to fold. If you put someone on a flush draw and the 3rd heart comes out on the river, you are probably beat.

Here's another good rule pertaining to big river bets:

A huge river bet either means the guy has the nuts and you are crushed, or that he is on a draw and he missed it, so the only way for him to win is to go all-in. If someone keeps going all-in, put a player note beside his name. Some people go all-in every time they have the nuts (or close to it) and some people bluff all the time, thinking a huge bet will scare someone off. You'll see patterns, and after the 4th or 5th time, you will be able to nail them.

Seriously tho, read my notes on top pair. It's what I live by, and I am up about $2000 in 6 months (not great, but respectable for $25 NL tables.)

AA capped preflop at a 5/10 table 4 ways, blinds both fold.... so we're looking at $87 preflop.

Flop A99. I grab a towel to clean my self up and switch gym shorts real fast.

Bet, 3 callers. $107

Turn 10 (3 clubs).

Bet, 1 callers. $127

River Queen (3 clubs still). So the flush draw made it on the turn and a bunch of the striaght draws jsut got there too.

Bet. I get raised. I re-raise. He caps. Reluctantly, I call.

Pocket 9's. $207.

Now thank god this kid wasn't smart enough to raise the turn, or it would have cost me a minumum of 2 more bets.

In the same 30 minute span I lost with KK to AA TWICE.... and saw a flop of AK10 while holding A10 against AK. (i checked and called the whole way, saved some bets)

And thats how you flush $400 down the drain in half an hour sans drugs.

Needless to say I wasn't in the mood to play anymore poker so i did some blackjack shilling, $1000 deposit to receive $500 bonus, took me about 3 hours to clear the $500. (*sticky bonus, cant cash it out)

Promptly played a $500 hand of blackjack while listening to techno and doing some extracurriculars for good luck.

7 vs an Ace. Fuck. I hit an Ace to make soft 18.... I debate for 2 minutes before deciding to stand. He flips over an Ace as his down card to make 2 or soft 12. Deck hits an 8 for 20.

And thats how you get kicked in the nuts for an entire day.
