As in the European teams at the olympics won't have their big names because of the Euro's so hopefully South America follows the same suit and sends their bigger players to the Copa.

Love the new crest. The old one looked way too cartoony

I like that. Classic. Also I am glad we dropped the stars. Stars should only be reserved for the highest achievements, like Champions League or the World Cup.

I mean, yes and no. Traditionally, stars for achievements are placed outside the crest so it's not the same thing as what we had. I have no problem with stars in general but 3 random stars did look silly (I think they were supposed to represent youth, amateur, and professional levels of USSF but I'm not sure about that). Also, the inverse of the color scheme as compared to our flag (blue stripes?) could have used some alterations. I personally wish they would have combined elements the old logo with the Centennial logo. Maybe keep the soccer ball, remove the movement lines, add an A to US, use red stripes, smaller stars, whatever.

I just don't like the new crest. The simple/streamlined logo was once a fresh idea in terms of sports logos but now everybody is doing it and every logo ends up looking like clip art. How would somebody see that logo and have any idea it's a US Soccer logo? I also hate the futuristic style font.

i like it for the most part. In terms of people knowing that it is a soccer crest, I can understand; however, the same could be said for many other countries so it's not that unusual. I think the inclusion of a single star somewhere within the boundaries could have been handled tastefully and doesn't conflict with the idea of world cup stars.

The simple crest makes it timeless though imo. That old flying ball logo screams 90's and was super dated 10 years ago.

I'm also a big fan of the red stripes. The way the new crest looks, it subliminally reminds me of the American flag hanging downwards now.

Also, it's up to the players to make that crest recognized. If they're winning, people will definitely know it's US soccer. We shouldn't have to explain ourselves through a badge.

I know the old crest wasn't perfect and it obviously needed some updates. I just think they should have incorporated some of its features in a new version instead of abandoning everything completely.

As far as the "soccer" thing, I guess we can agree to disagree. I think American sports are unique to the rest of the world and there's a big following for each respective sport's teams (not just soccer) and each logo should reflect that. Does USA basketball need to explain themselves through their logo? Hockey?

Of course, both of those sports don't directly put logos on their uni's like soccer so it's a unique situation but the crest is shown off a jersey most times anyway.

Just feels like Nike pushed for this and it's lazy

No way guys like Neymar, Alexis, James, Vidal, Suarez, etc play in Copa this year. They've basically played three straight years between qualifying, World Cup, Copa 15 and club.

Suarez is the only maybe since he sat due to suspension last summer.

sort of agree, but I selfishly don't like wearing striped jerseys myself. I haven't bought one since 2010 home (Landy Algeria game) so whatever.

This will always be my favorite.

Ignoring the insane baggy '90s cuts, these were rad:

Same with the DTOM shirts that were only worn for one match:

^^ that's one of the laziest things I've ever seen. Our kit doesn't need to be super elaborate or anything, but at least try to do something. All of the good kits out there are pretty basic, but iconic. Look at Brazil's or Argentina's and then try again.

Does it get on anyone else's nerves when Americans try to use foreign soccer lingo? I guess using the word pitch is o.k. But why is the MLS making all the teams names end with FC when our country calls it soccer, not football? Just wondering if this bothered anyone else.

^^ Because "soccer" is just a shorthand for "association football." They're still football clubs.

Sometimes. But then again, sometimes I use European Soccer lingo to describe a baseball match just to piss of my Baseball loving friends. I like to refer to the field as a pitch, the game as a match, extra innings as extra minutes, and describe no hitters as "clean sheets."

Actually, you know what I think is really stupid? Of course you do, so let me tell you.

American sport teams trying to appeal to Spanish audiences by using "spanish-y" language to describe the team name.

Los Bulls.

Los Cowboys.

If you're going to use the spanish article, you might as well use the spanish noun afterward. Those names have actual translations. It's like referring to el niño as "the niño."

This would be a valid point if teams didn't also appropriate other linguistic habits of foreign clubs. Real Salt Lake? Club Deportivo Chivas USA? Sporting KC?

It's kinda stupid.

Real Salt Lake originally had a partnership with Real Madrid. Chivas USA was the American arm of Chivas de Guadalajara. Sporting KC is a dumb name.

Chivas USA was always a stupid name and the reasoning didn't make it any less stupid.

It was an awful, awful......awful team name and I'm glad they don't exist anymore.

Yeah I don't exactly care for that either. It's kind of like in school when the not so popular boy starts to wear what the popular boy wears and does all of the things the popular boy does just so he can hopefully get the cute girls attention too, but that doesn't work. The girl still only pays attention to the popular guy. I enjoy watching MLS. In fact I watch that more than any other league because I'm not a morning person. With that being said, I like the names that sound American the most.

As many on here know I am a staunch supporter of Klinsmann. After last night though I think we need to reevaluate. Can't shit the bed like that. The performance was atrocious and Klinsmann needs to go now.

I agree but I think we also need to ask more questions of our "big" players as well. He's not the most popular US player of all time but Jermaine Jones would not have laid down like they all did last night. Some serious leadership questions need to be asked of vets like Bradley & Dempsey.

It's going to take a lot more than just putting an American coach in charge and trotting out the same best XI that everybody thinks is the best XI.

oh yea I agree. Klinsmann isn't the only one to blame here and our players also deserve a lot of it. I do believe Klinsmann isn't helped by the fact that the next generation of American players just aren't good enough. Regardless his insistence on playing a European style when our players can't play well that way is also squarely on his shoulders. Ironically our best run in Brazil came from counter attacking football and some grit. Both of which have served America well in international tournaments. What the US always did well was be a team that was better than the sum of our individual parts, that just isn't there anymore.
