Or the two guys chest to chest stuggling over a gun between them. Gun goes off, one guy's eyes get really big like he's been shot, other guy falls down dead.

Guy is in a heated argument on the phone. Guy hangs up. Phone rings. "GODDAMMIT I TOLD YOU.....!"

and it's someone completely different who just picked the wrong time to call about something completely different.

prob already been said but.... when someone is walking away from another person and they turn back to look at that person and a vehicle, usually a large bus/truck, passes in between the 2 and when it is done passing the person who was looked back on is gone!

Attackers flee a weak victim, victim breaths a sigh of relief, then realizes that attackers were actually fleeing someone/something more intimidating that appeared behind them.

Batman Begins is a good example, but I've seen it all over.

^If I remember correctly, I think Jurrasic Park did that at least once.

And every "Sci-Fi Original Movie" about dinosaurs has probably done it too.

dunno if this is a cliche or just the directors/producers didn't care, but it does annoy me

when you're show one scene and its daylight outside, then the very next scene its night, even though it's the same location
of course there are exceptions (flashbacks is one, prob more)

Sure, they said "never" but we all know what they're referring to. Independence Day is a good example. A million people got nuked in LA, but at least we have that feel-good moment because that dog was able to jump to safety at that last second where hundreds of people in that tunnel got fried. Huzzah.

^That's more of a continuity error... I'm guessing.

when people are watching the news or something on TV, and we see what they are watching, then after they have watched enough (or at least enough for the audience to hear the story), they just turn the TV off

who does that IRL

^I'm with you on that one.

^^Most people wouldn't just click it off like that. There's a reason those 24/7 news stations stay in business and it's not because people turn the channel/turn the TV off after getting the 45 seconds of news they end up repeating and dissecting for the next 7 hours. I mean are you seriously arguing that the news station that's on just long enough to relate vital information isn't an overused plot device.

So its like this then:

Two people turn on TV

"INSANE KILLER ON THE LOOSE"

Two people turn off TV and talk about how they plan to avoid being the Killer's next victim

Yeah, I've seen that in several instances and it is kinda bullshit...I retract my previous rolly eyes

Not a cliché, but annoying none the less:

When people are having a conversation and the setting completely changes (during the cut from one shot to another) but the conversation flows as if there were no break at all. Man, I can't explain it, happens all the time though. A seamless conversation where the setting changes imply a large passage of time. Here's an extreme example:

Setting: Walking down a sidewalk outside EBII.
Person 1: How about the weather.

Setting change: 9th floor of the stacks.
Person 2: Yeah, it's like we went straight from winter to summer without a spring.

I just have to imagine in my head about 15 minutes of silence as person 2 ponders the answer to the question while person 1 patiently awaits the answer.

^Happens in Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet when Paris and Capulet are discussing the marriage proposal. The same conversation passes from a sidewalk, to an elevator, to a steam room, and so on.

A villain dramatically thrusting a pistol towards the hero's face, allowing him to deflect and disarm the attacker.

If you're pulling a gun on a guy who's proven that he's proficient with martial arts stay at least arms length away.

ive never seen this happen in real life, but seems like it happens in every movie at some point (though it would be awesome to see this in an office somewhere IRL)

Probably been said, but the following phrase:

I've been ________ since you were ________.

As in:

I've been fighting werewolves since you were in diapers.
I've been a private investigator since you were playing pac-man.

Terrible examples, but they show what I'm saying.

he said it to the Senator guy, but it was actually Mystique

it was weird because i thought the senator guy was somewhat close to Stryker's age

not sure if he was a senator, it was the guy that was the leader of the Susan Ross Foundation that is giving her stuff away while George had to watch what would have been his be gone...as well as giving the scholarship to the kid that joined the Van Buren Boys

I havent read through all 8 pages, and this is an obvious one, so its probably been said before

But when someone is looking in the medicine cabinet mirror, opens it to get something out, then closes it and sees someone behind her

or

When someone is looking in the medicine cabinet mirror, opens it to get something out, then closes it and no one is there, then turns around and bumps into someone they know that is just walking up behind them

or

any other variation of this scene

Every time a hired assassin does the job he should, and goes to start a car...BOOM...no more assassin.

and yes, I'm referring to the current movie in theaters that it happens in

when a low flying jet/airplane/flying object is about to plow into a building or home and it cuts to a shot of the activity inside the house (typically ironic or 'funny')

like they do it to make people chuckle at the movie theaters, straying from the serious shit that is happening to throw in a quick lol. fuck that lol it ruins decent movies.

when an explosion happens near a character, so they show the character all dazed with the sound muffled around them, then another character/explosion snaps them out of it (ie saving private ryan and most recently i saw it in defiance at 1.50's)

i was watching the rookie (1990, clint eastwood, charlie sheen) yesterday and at one point the main bad guy's chick kicks the cronie down and cocks the gun as she is pointing it at him.. then again a second later cocks it again.

made me think of this thread.

Or when one person is shooting, then there is a big explosion and they think they did it, but then turn around and realize it was something/someone else. Savign Private Ryan is the best example I can think of when Tom Hanks thought he blew up the tank with a handgun.

Quote :
"when people are watching the news or something on TV, and we see what they are watching, then after they have watched enough (or at least enough for the audience to hear the story), they just turn the TV off"

Even worse is when someone comes running into the room yelling "you have to see this!" and turns on the TV just in time to hear the headline...

How the fuck did they know what was happening if the newscaster is just announcing it?

Guy on platform shooting at hero. Hero shoots the bad guy and he dramatically pitches over the railing.

You'd think that professional henchmen would realize that most past employees of that specific arch-villain died violently immediately after completing their contract and be a bit more reluctant to do work for him.

When the girl is crazy for the guy and hurts sooo much because she isn't with him and then when she kisses him at the very end of the movie, it's just okay and she realizes then that she's over him because there isn't that "spark" in the kiss and therefore spontaneously moves on to this other dude who's been there for a while that she just had an epiphany that "omg, I think I'm actually in love with this other dude instead". (or visa versa) yeah... that annoys me.

^^^ That's kinda like what pissed me off about The Notebook.

1) Guy A falls in love with girl and after some pursuit, girl falls in love with Guy A
2) Guy A goes off to war or some such shit
3) Girl moves on and meets Guy B who falls in love and plans on a future with girl
4) Girl runs into Guy A, remembers her feelings for him and cheats on Guy B before he finds out

Girls eat that shit up, but I walked away feeling bad for guy B and wondering why a mega-bitch like the girl deserved her own movie.
