Porcupine Tree has posted a 7:30 preview of "The Incident." This might be my most anticipated release still to come this year.

bout to start recording a record with some friends of mine in greensboro. i'll post tracks as we make em.

i want to release songs in stages as a unique way to hear what studio editing/mixing can do, so i will post a track that is completely raw, then post the same song with subsequent edits & mixing, and finally a master copy.

should keep me occupied the last half of summer

no, it's def. cool

i still think the very first version of "dope nose" that rivers posted is way better than the album version

you using tape or digital?

it will still be digital. presonus firepod into steinberg cubase for preliminary tracking, and edits. i believe we will be mixing and mastering with pro tools.

its going to have a lot of raw sounds, dynamic microphones on guitar & bass cabs, banjo & strings. definitely want to try and capture the energy of the song through as much live recording as we can (as opposed to layering).

I still have a ton of the SS2K / Maldroit demos from Weezer.com.

And I'm still pissed that so many good songs got shelved or were butchered.

that sounds similar to an uncompleted album i did with the octobers a few years ago. we had guitar, cello, keys and one guy switched between guitar/bass/banjo depending on the song. we did live recording and some of it turned out really well. for whatever reason it never was completely finished.

well i'm just waiting and i know multiple people who would just send it to me. i prefer the anticipation of opening up the packaging to unzipping a file.

that said, i'm getting the vinyl. does anyone know if it comes with a download of the album from the band?

Cool, i have a firebox/firepod, too. I use Logic, but have previously used Cubase a lot. Why the switch to Pro Tools? Especially if using a non digidesign interface? Does the mastering house use PT and require a PT project?

all this talk about recording reminds me of the time i could have bought a tascam 388 (all-in-one, 8 tracks, 1/4" reel-to-reel) in good working order for $300 but passed on it because i didn't have anywhere to put it.

im not sure why we would switch to PT honestly, other than the fact that one of us has it and wants to use it.

the firepod is great. i recorded the last album i did with all the drum tracking into the firepod and through cubase, with every drum mic having its own channel. that gave me mixing control over so much more than i ever had before. i could adjust virtually every sound from every tom that my kit produced, and then could match the 2 overhead condenser mic's to blend cymbals and ambience with the toms.

and i did it all in my basement. came out pretty well, except that i hate how the snare drum sounded.

Modest Mouse -- No One's First and You're Next
hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?nyznnzdyzww

very early leak... also not the best quality, only 128 kbps, but it's a listenable copy of their new one.

I'm just curious to hear it, but if you're a big fan and want to hear it in its best quality, wait a week or two.
