Not sure what this even means but chances are, as was said before, it was some rich idiot with a tech hard-on.

Anthony Cumia from Opie and Anthony owns a drone and uses it all the time.

You heard it here first folks.

Drones aren't above us and they aren't a danger to planes.

Here is the thing yowilly: Issues with abortion, gay marriage and gun control all exists so that we don't unite/see the damages that are being done with our civil liberties (phone and internet monitoring) and our empire of a military (drones). All of that other stuff is just an illusion to keep our eye away from the real threats.

I have it on good authority that George Bush was flying this particular drone.

Actually I'm lying! I just wanted TSB to become concerned.

there is zero evidence that this was a federal, state, or municipal drone, and the fact that the FBI can't identify it points to it probably being some random person's drone. that's why we are making fun of you.

Why would the FBI identify a federal drone that almost hit an airliner and release that information to us?

Especially now when domestic use of drones is dramatically ramping up?

dtownral agrees it's swamp gas. It's always swamp gas.

Because why would they cover it up when domestic drones are not a secret and they could just throw the operator under the bus for being too close to the airplane, it doesn't make any sense at all.

What makes a lot more sense is that someone was playing with one of the many drones easily available to consumers for not much money.

but, um... OBAMA!

I'm not going to be portrayed as a conspiracy theorist by someone who believes the government has never participated in a cover up because they simply "don't make sense."

I'm also not going to take someone seriously who breezes over my second link concerning drone strikes on US soil being legal because they think they have a clever argument (regarding conspiracy theorists).

I will split the difference with you however and say "well maybe the pilot doesn't know what he saw."

I do agree with you though that Obama is a very convenient scapegoat. Everything wrong with this country, everything I don't agree with, and everything I can't easily blame on the true culprit... He's just perfect. I can now appreciate all the fun liberals had under Bush for 8 years.

The gov has definitely participated in coverups, but there's no reason to believe that's the case here.

Quad copters of this nature are easily available to consumers, and all signs indicate that's what happened.

Obama's new budget comes out next week.

-1.1 trillion in spending cuts over 10 years
-700 billion in new revenue
-cuts to medicare by reducing reimbursement
-cuts to social security using chained CPI

I'm not sure if I would award + or - credibility points on this one.

So $110 billion in cuts per year? Glad to know we'll drown in debt just a bit slower

^IMO you need to put it in perspective of how far we have come. $2.4 tn has already been cut/been planned since 2010. I think this $1.1 tn is just Obama's idea of a better sequester.

So since 2010 we are actually approaching $3.5 tn in cuts over ten years (and a little under $1 tn in revenue increases?)

It just seems like a terrible place to START negotiations with the House. At the same time I think a "grand bargain" that Obama keeps swinging for would actually be really good for our country

[Edited on April 5, 2013 at 1:08 PM. Reason : this budget is supposed to be uber detailed, atleast when compared with other competing proposals]

i don't understand why he even wastes his time proposing something, the GOP will just block anything he proposes. just look at the times he has proposed plans that were created by republicans that they blocked.

he was accused (IMO inaccurately) that he didn't have a deficit reduction plan other than "raise taxes on the rich." So he at least killed that meme. But yeah, I'm with you.

on the one hand, I think a compromise on debt reduction that is balanced, slow and steady would be an overall good idea for our country. If Republicans refuse to even come to the table over this proposal I think the hope is Obama can represent them as "not serious about the deficit or solving our country's problems," and only protecting the rich - which has worked for him before

On the other if Republicans are able to pull this budget even further right, I will quickly become not a fan. I'm a little skeptical of Obama's negotiating skills.

the wildcard is Republicans using "ZOMG Obama is trying to take your medicare and SS, AHHHHH" in 2014 and making gains in the senate by motivating the geezers to get out and vote.

That's a very good point. But how do those "cuts" compare with the swelling of the federal budget over his first term?

lol, well that's the million dollar question. I guess the hope is that some conservatives will realize this is actually a pretty good deal for them, maybe even once in a lifetime. You aren't gonna see many Democrats EVER propose cuts to medicare/SS. At the same time, Republicans say whatever is convenient when it comes to medicare/SS - blasting it as about to sink our nation under crippling debt while at the same time trying to rile up the geezers with the fact that Obama cut medicare (in the last election).

I'm not really holding my breath for any big bargain, and neither is Obama IMO. That's why we need to examine the political maneuvering on this budget. I see that it could provide some leverage, making Obama seem serious and adult about negotiations. I could also see it backfiring pretty badly. . . . . .

Quote :

2010 was his second year and that's when the cuts started. In 2009 he only had the stimulus, which did balloon the budget some but it wasn't outrageous by any means, especially considering the circumstances.

Plus 2009 was actually bush's last budget. As a percentage of GDP (which is probably the best way to measure government spending over time) the government actually grew slower than at any other point since before the New Deal.

I think Obama knows that the republicans will never agree to anything he wants to do so he's throwing this entirely reasonable budget out there to expose the GOP for the assholes they truly are.

It should be obvious by now that Obamacare is going to cause a significant spike in insurance premiums, particularly on those aged 26-45. It should be interesting to see whether this causes another rout at the midterms by the GOP, led by the Tea Party.

"Obama’s budget plan, to be unveiled April 10, would prohibit taxpayers from accumulating more than $3 million in an individual retirement account. That proposal would generate $9 billion in revenue for the Treasury over the next decade, according to a White House statement released today.

“Under current rules, some wealthy individuals are able to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving,” the statement said."

So I guess capping yearly investment in 401k is for the poor and middle class. Rich can get around that and add as much as they want in tax free retirement accounts.

My understanding is this is part of his plan to "close tax loopholes on the super rich." Also includes things like getting rid of carried interest tax deductions, etc.

To me, it's a significant problem with our tax system that people like Mitt Romney pay a smaller tax rate than those of us that work for a living.
