Durham, N.C.—Authorities were still searching early Tuesday for a gunman who they say opened fire on a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper during a routine traffic stop in Durham Monday night.

State Capitol Police Chief Tony Asion and Sgt. Benjamin Franklin have been fired following an investigation into secondary employment, sources tell WRAL News. The two were placed on leave earlier this month while the Department of Public Safety launched an internal investigation. No other details were released.

I have always wondered how they can say they have cleared such a large building in a short amount of time. Like if someone called in a bomb threat to a multi story building wouldn't it take days to legitimately search the place for bombs? I wouldnt be surprised one day to see a bomb threat called in, evacuate, let people back in, then someone sets it off. That would cause some serious headaches for the public going forward thats for sure.
