hm. the following doesn't seem illogical:

declaring for NBA warrants presser
therefore,
not declaring, no presser?

hodge had a presser to say he was staying... don't think any of it means anything. He gone though.

They're all transferring to Georgia State to bring home a Sun Belt championship.

If Warren stays, I guaran-damn-tee you he won't hold up a picture of an unshaven Gottfried and say "how could I ever leave this guy?"

Best of luck in the NBA TJ. I think your excellent season had been largely overshadowed by Parker but I have no doubt that you'll matriculate into a quality NBA player. You know what they say, the cream always rises to the top.

Really hope he does well. Seems like a genuinely nice guy.

And we DESPERATELY need a smart, humble guy who is proud of his school to be an ambassador for State at the next level (sorry JJ, I hear almost nothing from you about State). Can't underestimate the impact of that type of thing on the perception of a program...

i really hope he does well...

slow, 6'8" guys w/ little outside shooting aren't usually burners in the league though. he had two more years to learn how to shoot, which makes me sad

He's not fast but he's not really slow either, especially in transition. He's a lot quicker than people give him credit for.

I can honestly see him being a poor man's Paul Pierce if he gets a consistent outside shot. I'll definitely be watching him in the NBA. I hope he goes to a team that doesn't perpetually suck.

watch him play defense. he's slow.

i love the kid, but he's not ready for the league. oh well. i hope i'm wrong, b/c god knows we need a good player to come out of here these days.

He has pretty good straight-line speed, but his lateral quickness is pretty bad for a SF. That's why he couldn't stay in front of his man most games.

That said, I don't think staying in school another year would make him any faster

Staying in school wouldn't fix any of TJ's problems. The only thing he could do to rise his stock is knock down a high % of 3s. Total risk when there's so much that could go wrong. This was the right move.

I know what you mean, but JJ was a one and done on a shitty team for a coach who was fired resigned after a short, shitty coaching career. I don't blame him too much for not showing State a lot of love.

you think he's such a good defender that he has nothing left to learn in college basketball? you think hitting threes at a high rate for an entire season is some trivial aspect of the nba small forward's game?

he's gone, i get it. but this was a decision made out of impatience.

^^ ya know, he could get drafted in the top 20 this year while improving on his game. Or he could risk dropping in the draft and losing guaranteed money.

10/10 times id take the guaranteed money if I was in that situation.

that's b/c you're a pussy, and/or you expect him to fail.

option #3 is get better, get drafted higher, enter the league w/ more staying-power.

He should stay in school and red shirt next year then play two more years. Maximize his staying power.

James Michael MacAdoo stayed a extra year or two at UNC. Really paid off for him seeing as how he isn't a projected 1st round pick at all

His major issues defensively are related to his lack of elite athleticism and length. He can stay in school for 20 years and that won't change. Yea, he could comeback and be a little less lazy defensively throughout an entire season. Big fucking deal. The NBA won't give a shit. He's never going to be a top tier defensive player. And playing for Mark Gottfried isn't likely to get him there anyway.

TJ's maximum upside as a player is to be Doug McDermott with below average NBA athleticism instead of horrible NBA athleticism. Right now his stock is basically the same as McDermott's. There is no point to coming back.

^. Lorenzo Brown is case and point. Why didn't he make it early? He can't shoot. 1, 2, and 3's who can get to the paint are a dime a dozen. The difference is who can also stretch a defense. I love TJ and I fully understand taking the money now. Also, to the guy who said TJ is quicker than people give him credit. I believe him to be faster than people give him credit for (distances like the length of the floor) but his quickness is average at best (short movements like lateral quickness on defense).

people keep saying it was a good decision to leave because he won acc poy as if that title is going to earn him playing time once he's on an nba team.

Will all depend on where he actually gets drafted before we can decide if it was the right decision or not doesnt it? A lot is gonna depend on how many from kentucky come out and guys like Parker because they will likely all be drafted before him which could move him down 6-7 spots potentially. In the end though his stock isnt gonna get much higher and if this wasnt such a loaded draft it would be a no brainer.
