$125 for 22 Class Hours

Never really rode a motorcycle, can't even drive a stick, but I am contemplating taking the class at Durham Tech. I have access to an older cruiser type bike and have no intention of immediately buying a crotch rocket.

Anyone taken this class or a similar one? How was it?

I took a class like that at Alamance Community College. Previous to that, I never drove a motorcycle (I rode on the back when my dad was driving), but it was a good experience. I did not do as well on the obstacle type final course as some people did, but I did well on the written test. The good thing is that if you pass it, you do not need to take the obstacle course at the DMV. I did know how to drive stick before, but I do not think that really had any effect on my experience.

you dont want to try to learn to drive a manual tranny and a motorcycle at the same time. borrow a car to practice on first.

I have done that a few times and plan to do it some more before the motorcycle class.

I understand the "idea" behind shifting, and once Im get going Im fine. Its just the damn starting and finding the right clutch:gas ratio

just let the clutch out really slow and the bike will pull itself no gas needed.

If I can teach myself how to operate a 5spd in 30 mins then teach myself how to ride a bike in a hour... then I'm sure anyone could.

They have one in sanford too and the provide so some junk ass bikes too

The class is really good, especially for true beginners. I found it a little basic because I already had riding experience, but the majority of the people in my class were 30-grandma aged women, and all but one of them was able to pass. They start you out real basic and the excercises you do really build your confidence level as the weekend progresses. If you aren't timid as hell, you'll do just fine even without knowing how to drive a stick. You only get into 3rd once the whole class. Its all slow stuff to build your bike handling skills, and the first hour or so is how to get started without stalling out or getting out of control. It's well worth the money, especially since it gets you the DMV skills test waiver and cheaper insurance with most companies.
