Beware this scam is going on in Raleigh. I was approached at the Wendy's on Western Blvd with the claim that these guys who installed speaker systems went to the warehouse and were given an extra set of home theater speakers. They even had a magazine with the speaker system in it that said they retailed from over $3000. They continued to say they would let them go for a steal. Do Not Be Fooled. The speakers look impressive but they are in fact cheap knock offs from China.

Co-worker of mine fell for the scam. He was at their office the next morning with a baseball bat for a "refund". He also recently saw these guys doing their scam in the Lowe's parking lot on Smithfield. He drove right up to a guy they were trying to scam and convinced him to not buy the merchandise.

I would just assume that they would be selling them as used items.

i was approached by this white van setup at a bank parking lot in new bern a couple of months ago. as professional as the sales pitch was (yo, dude, wanta buy some hot speakers outta the back of my van?), i had to decline. if only i had their number in case i reconsider.

honestly, the only thing i could think of was going to look in the van, and then getting thrown in the back of the van and being made a coat for somebody...

i was driving on wake forest road several years ago and some dude was "on his way to install a sweet system at hooters" but "the warehouse gave him two sets!"

I had never heard of the scam before, but I was about 19 and curious, so I took a look at the speakers. Granted I don't know a whole lot about speakers, but they did NOT look like a $2500 set of speakers like the guy was saying.

it was obvious to me that it was a scam, so I told him to wait there while i "went to the ATM." A little while later I finally saw him give up, pull off and get on the beltline, heading away from hooters.

Haha next time they approach one of you guys, just say "Good afternoon sir. My name is Dr. Amija Akimbo, I am the attorney of the late Prince Kajoobi of Nigeria. Prince Kajoobi recently passed away, his dying wish was to transfer his funds (Upwards of 100 million US dollars) to an American charity. I need to use an American bank account to transfer his funds to this charity and have been given the authorization to donate 20% of it to whoever assists me in the transfer. After doing some research I have found that you are an ideal match for what I am looking for. Please provide me with your bank account number so that I can transfer the money into your account."

my old roomate bought a set of "top notch" speakers from some guys at the food lion on western in the infamous white van a few years back. He shelled out like $400, seems like they're upping the ante these days...he plugged them in and they sounded like ass, so he put them on ebay...managed to make a couple hundred.....i guess shit rolls downhill
