ate there for the first time today....they serve western nc ketchup style bbq and it was pretty good. I def. recommend the biscuits.

overall the prices were a little high for my taste and the wait staff looked more like they belonged in a chilis than a up-scale bbq place...

Overall good experience but i'm a little uncomfortable with the owner....was told he embezzled from a childrens fund or something LOL

We use to eat there 1 or 2 times a week when I was in school. I forgot the owner's name but we use to talk to him all the time and he was a cool cat. Get the apple sticks with a barbeque plate.

Old Time is not western style BBQ. The meat is wet and greasy as shit and most of the sauces are crap-vinegar based..... that's as Eastern NC as it comes.

used to go there b/c my friends liked it, and we were checking out one day and the owner's daughter was running the register, and the owner was standing behind her yapping about her boyfriend. My friend, who's 6'2" and fit, handsome, etc, got up to the register and the owner looked at him and was like "see thar', why can't-chew git yerself a white feller' like one of these"

Alabama bbq sucks too, son. They have this weird white sauce here or something. I've been to a few different bbq places but none of it is as good as NC bbq. They think they are the shit when it comes to bbq too, all these people claiming they have like family recipes that go back generations and stuff and that it is the best bbq I'll ever taste. Freaking Smithfield's is better. I may be from England but I've spent enough time in North Carolina to know good bbq.

There is no way in hell the owner "embezzled" money from a children's fund.

He's THE TOP fundraiser for the annual Ride for Kids, a motorcycle ride that benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. I think he raised almost $40k this year himself. He beat out MANY larger TEAMS of people including my own company which has 40 members on our team.

He's a great guy and his heart is definitely in the right place.
