Geico wants me to take it to Coats body shop
should I wait, get an estimate and then take it to the chevy place and have them do it since its still under warranty? will whatever they do at coats mess up the warranty?
I know if Chevy screws up theyd replace whatever. 11/2/2009 6:13:56 PM |

you can take it anywhere you want
i would have the dealer give you an estimate, with oem, not salvage or aftermarket parts, and hold firm to that price till you get a check
then fix it yourself with salvage or aftermarket parts or take it to a cheaper shop
$profit$
i made about $3k last time i got rear ended by this method, also, do not tell them you are ok until it is fixed, i had a rental truck for damn near two months, because by back and neck felt kind of funny 11/2/2009 6:19:35 PM |

^ Agreed on getting estimates from the dealer. Even if you don't want to do the work yourself you need to get estimates from the dealer and some of the higher priced shops around here. Fuck who they want you to take it to; take it to the place that you think will do the best work.
Also, don't forget to get money for loss of value on your vehicle. message_topic.aspx?topic=386449

agreed. the dealer will give a ridiculously high price. if you can get them to pay it then you'll make out awesome on the deal. 11/2/2009 7:35:15 PM |

I would recommend checking out Paragon on Capitol for a quote and/or work. 11/2/2009 8:08:58 PM |

would having a body shop other than the delearship work on it totally do away with the warranty coverage from Chevy? 11/2/2009 9:02:12 PM |

It's not insurance fraud or even morally questionable to get a reputable shop to quote the repairs to you.
For all we know Geico may have a deal with Coats to cut costs wherever possible. That may be in the form of non-OEM parts which never fit as well as OEM and don't have the same finish. Even if they use all OEM parts there is always the chance they are going to cut corners on the prep work and finishing if Geico is dictating what they're willing to pay for the job.

so, what dealerships actually do repair work from wrecks? I'm not aware of any. You can go to a dealer, and they are going to tell you to go somewhere else, or they just turn around and send your car somewhere else. 11/2/2009 11:40:36 PM |

Truth! There are shaddy actions going on with both sides of the situation. So yes, it is a form of however, you get dicked from them putting parts on your the car that are not oem and by them cutting corners. But whatever.

Make sure you ask your agent for depreciation. Even though your car might get fixed, its worth less for being in a wreck. They have to pay you that amount. They will not do so unless you ask. A girl in my program got an extra $3k in for doing so. 11/3/2009 12:22:23 AM |

be sure to tell them that it's for an insurance claim against someone that hit you, they seem to give an estimate with a...greater margin for error that way. 11/3/2009 8:52:11 AM |
