there is a really pretty younger looking hawk (pretty sure its a hawk) in my back yard. he's been there all morning and just hops around. his wing looks hurt.

i know there are all types of groups that rescue injured wildlife but who to call? and would someone come out on a sunday to get him?

anywhere you can direct me is appreciated. thanks!

In your backyard in GSO?

Carolina Raptor Center is in Charlotte, they might not mind coming to get it.

^^ thanks! i looked them up but since i'm in raleigh i tried to find some place closer.

nah i'm in raleigh so i called triangle wildlife rehabilitation clinic. they have a bird specialist.

just got back from dropping it off. i hope they can help it

catching that sucker was kinda terrifying.

Quote :
"it's nature"

perhaps. but we don't know how it got hurt. could have been from a human cause since it is in a neighborhood. but either way i mean it was a hawk not like a robin or something stupid. that is why i saved it because they are pretty birds and it was worth trying to help in my opinion.

i have a case number so i can call tomorrow to see what the outcome was.

really pretty bird though. really fucking scary too.

that is crazy that another person helped a hawk

unfortunately the hawk i helped was really really sick or really really injured

he was getting swarmed by flies which the vet lady said was really bad and meant he was in trouble

and he tried to fight us a little bit but never puffed up like the hawk in the other thread. he ran from us but then eventually gave up and just let us scoop him up with a shovel and put him in a box

i know that is kinda what i think

but it WAS a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation place (not just a regular vet) so that is their specialty. and the woman was a bird specialist so maybe if it was just a broken wing or something they can help him/her

good job kadwack, at least you gave the bird a shot at survival

at the very least, if they put him down it'll be quick

the flies swarming part is really concerning. you did your best.

i'd be fucking scared to catch a hawk, even with a shovel haha

thanks it was TERRIFYING. his talons (or hers) even though he wasn't full grown were still giant and scary and i don't like birds to begin with (i mean looking at them is fine but birds as pets freaks me out)

my brother and dad helped.

the woman on the phone was like - even if you have work gloves he can talon you through them so be careful.

and i was like. SWEET.

i think my hawk might have been a red shouldered hawk not a red tailed hawk

but i'm not really sure

but i hope he/she lived. i mean yea, if he was really ill/injured they could at least euthanize him which would be better than getting eaten alive by flies

i just got home from dinner w/ my dad and when i got out of the car i heard screaming, like a small animal in pain or something. it was right at my car door, and i've seen opossums around before so i thought i'd half run over a baby one or something. turns out the cat was chasing this poor tiny baby bunny. i scooped up the bunny and put him in a box. he's completely exhausted, to the point that i think it's very likely he'll die. i don't know what to do with him. i can't put him outside tonight b/c the cat will just go get him again b/c he's so tired & weak. we made a little fuzzy hut/burrow for him and put it in his box w/ some grass & water. based on descriptions on the interwebs i think he's only like 3 weeks old and is probably still nursing.

apparently if you have a heating pad you're supposed to put that under 1/2 of the box. so 1/2 is warm.

tomorrow you should take him to a place like i took the bird. if he's alive they will help him and it doesn't cost!

it will be sad if he dies but at least you're trying to help!!

are you in raleigh???? if so i can give you the place i went. if not i googled "wildlife rescue north carolina" and got a bunch of groups. they're all over the state.

hoping the best for baby bunny. baby bunnies are so cute.

well she's probably just keeping it for ton since no where is open to take it right now

its not really "saving"

and its "rehabilitation" that needs a license

and the licenses are like $5 or something. they are cheap.
