^thats debatable.

i know a few people who wished they had gotten married earlier
(most of it due to having kids at an older age and feeling like they couldn't keep up with them as much)

Come on... that is a shitty thing to say. Every situation is different and to come out of left field and say something like that is ridiculous. My Mom got married to my Dad at 23 and had two kids by 28 and she is happily married for 34 years now and living a good life.

This isn't the Lounge, so I'm not trying to give advice here.

Besides, as a general rule, I do think 23 is too young. But every situation is different. I'm sure these guys will be celebrating landmark anniversaries for years to come. They've got at least a 50% chance.

Is that a joke?? Because most of the marriages that ended in divorce didn't involved emotion...right??

Apologies for thread derail. My first post was meant to be half light-hearted. In general, I still don't think the average 23 year old is ready for marriage, but plenty still work out and I'm sure you'll be fine. Congrats and good luck!

No need for anyone to apologize, I've been here long enough to know it comes with the territory, its chitchat.

And Raiden, I've read through your thread from the start, I feel for you and I'm sorry your situation worked out how it did. In the end it all works out for the best though.

First of all, congrats. I hope it works out for you.
But, I'm in my mid 30s and I would say 90% of my friends who got engaged/married before their late 20s are either divorced or on the verge of it. Twenty-three is way too young imo, and ten years from now, you'll probably agree with me.

Way to go, Debbie Downer

Fuck that guy, there are plenty of people my parents' age who got married way early (I'm talking 18-19) and have been together forever. It's all about your relationship and the things you do to make it work down the road.

There's no secret to a marriage that works, and age most certainly isn't some deal breaker. That said, I'm not engaged/married, and my ass was far too immature for that at 23...probably still so now at 25.

I'll try and get a picture of the ring up later. It was her grandmothers engagement ring, then her moms, now hers. I wanted to buy her a ring but it was what she wanted and I'm not getting between that .

And yeah, I will be getting married much younger then I expected but its by no means some random decision or anything, we have been dating and living together for a very long time and we've talked about it forever. The statistics can say whatever they want but unless they are saying its a 100% chance of failure its a chance I'll take.

awwww! congrats!!! is her mom still alive? just asking because i didn't know if it was normal or not to get your mother's engagement ring when your mother is still alive. that is so cool though (the family ring thing). i love family rings!

how old are you? how long have you dated? and you've already lived together for a long time? that is probably a good thing, IMO.

i know people are SUPER against it, but i'd rather live with someone before getting married to them. i guess i'm weird, but it just seems slightly more responsible (to me...i know people seriously disagree on this topic).
