I'm well aware that 99% of the time I won't need it. That being said, I'm not buying a truck that's not 4x4. Out of sheer principle. And there are times driving around WV in the winter snowboarding when 4x4 is a definite need.

$15k for a crew cab gets you:

-possibly a nizzan titan, 13mpg but gobs of power.
-tundras in that range are basically what sumfoo1 posted... meh.
-you can get an 'older' 3/4 ton from any of the big 3, but there's going to be maintenance items to consider.
- you can get a chevy/dodge/ford for that price, 4x4, but mileage is going to be high..


if you go to extended cab the quality/age/mileage gets better, same for stepping down to regular cab.

i wasn't talking supercab, for some reason i read back seats as 4 doors. i guess i need to look east, raleigh you can only get into 2005+ with really high mileage for $15k. i'd check out that fx4 but the mileage is a little high for me.

really though, i'd spend a little more and go silverado. they are alot more comfortable and the visibility is a lot better.

my personal school of thought is that having a truck is awesome, but daily driving a truck would absolutely suck the cock. I also like being able to treat a truck, well, like a truck, and not feel bad about scratching or denting it. With that in mind, and also because towing a 20' skiff and going snowboarding are easily doable with any full-size truck (and probably a lot of compact/midsize trucks), I would recommend just buying a cheap, old, beater truck. It doesn't have to be a totally used up piece of shit, but I'd buy something with some scratches and dents in it already, and get it for cheap, and then beat on it however you want...

and then keep a car to drive day to day like God intended (*unless you ride a motorcycle day to day, which is really the most preferred method).

Just my personal opinion, but as rarely as I haul anything other than people and duffel bags of money I don't mind hooking up a trailer every once in a while to pull the nasty stuff.

if you can drive, yes; I grew up with farmer friends who manuevered crew cab long bed duallies with ease. The biggest item is not trying to do the whole 'park in a spot that's immediately perpendicular to the driving lane im in' thing.

i don't know about the supercab, but the supercrew handles and has visibility like it is much bigger than it is. i've driven a lot of trucks, and spent a lot of time in the f-150 and in the new silverado. the new silverado is a much more comfortable ride, has more comfortable seats, handles better, has better visibility, and is easier to maneuver.

well, a full sized bed is 8 feet. the 6.75 foot beds are the short beds. those are big enough for most motorcycles but small enough that you won't be able to put a normal 5th wheel hitch in. I've got just about the longest you're gonna get and it's only 22' long, about the size of an older volvo wagon. in the f150 frame im sure it'll be under 18' and able to fit in most parking spaces.

I have a 2005 Z71 Chevy Silverado extended cab and I love it! I feel like I am riding in the Cadillac of trucks I tinted my windows, got Mickey Thompson All Terrains, a leveling kit, and Flow masters, and I love it... I would never want a different truck. I'll be sad when it dies :-(
