aha, yeah...

I guess I do get to peace easy from work, still get my salary, plus $15/day

Still, as a black male, I do not like setting foot in court

^^ yeah, i've heard that before. sad reflection of our legal system.

I will be 32 in a couple of weeks, and have never once even got a summons, much less been selected. I actually would kinda like to go do it, just to school all the other dumbasses likely to be on the jury and hopefully make a small but positive impact on our justice system.

It's not that lawyers hate educated people, it's that educated people tend to have jobs, and tend to have jobs that can't let them take off extended time from work for jury duty. So, you end up with retirees, unemployed, stay at home parents, and government employees.

my summons basically says "take this letter in to your employer as proof, and tell them to suck it"

I got called for Jury Duty in Guilford County, in 2005. At that point I had not lived in Guilford County since 1999. So I was able to get out of that one.

Haven't been called since (fingers crossed!)

just got a summons in the mail

it actually doesn't come at a bad time, wouldn't mind doing it just to see how the whole process works.

with my luck i won't be screened out and i'll have to sit for weeks for some landmark trial

I got a county jury summons when I was serving as a federal juror... talk about luck. The worst part is that I overlooked it and had to call them the day I was suppose to go in as I was on vacation out of the state.

I got out of having to go last January cause it snowed. w00t.

Bad part about having a crappy job is you don't get paid for days missed for these types of things.

[Edited on May 8, 2012 at 7:42 PM. Reason : when I called in they said something about jurors 1 through 150-something had to report in]

I just got my first summons ever at 29 years old. It was for KS. I moved back to NC last summer and have yet to change anything over (tags, license, register to vote, etc.) so I had to call and tell them I had just moved.

Though I do look forward to actually going one day

my guess is if you sound reasonably intelligent and educated, you probably wouldn't get chosen since it'd be harder to sway you one way or the other

but I've never actually gotten that far so

If the people in this lounge are a jury of my peers then I don't ever want to be arrested. They should put a nursing home next door to ease the commute.

The thought of a trial by jury terrifies me. The thought of a bench trial terrifies me more. Jury of my peers - hah!

I got one not that long ago, I was actually hoping to be selected. The letter said to call after 5PM the day before I was supposed to and the message said I would not be needed, I guess the case I was in the pool for got plead out.

Shame really, I'd love to serve on a jury.
