aside from tww, i've been waiting for that type of thing forever. it's kindof like how things changed when RSS became big. instead of going to 100 different sites, i could just go to google reader. but now, to get notifications, i have to go to facebook, twitter, tww, reddit, stackoverflow, gmail, etc etc. and because i have to go PULL my notifications, i'm constantly polling those services, which is a huge waste of my time. i was hoping that when gmail started doing desktop notifications in chrome the idea would take off, but i haven't seen much growth in that area

IIRC for GMail's desktop notifications to work, you need to have GMail open in a tab...
