1. Irritate the fuck out of random cop that's been dealing with drunks and general retards for the past 10 hours.

2. Ask for something that doesn't exist on hidden camera.

3. ????

4. Profit.

people try to ask for a complaint form at various police stations

responses range from kicking them out of the station to arresting them for not giving their ID

^^All the cops were pretty clear about that.

They were also clear that it's not something you take home and fill out yourself like it was a homework assignment.

Good advice, after 3 minutes of butthurt douches trying to get a rise out cops just doing their jobs you'll get bored just like I did.

people aren't saying they don't exist

they are saying that sometimes a crooked cop will refuse to allow a person to fill out a complaint

either because they are an antagonistic asshole on a power trip or because they are misguidedly trying to protect one of their brothers in blue

They're telling him that he can't just get one to take home. Second cop clearly says "that ain't the way it works"

Quote :

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=No+shit+Municipal+laws+differ+They+apparently+didn't+film+in+Albuquerque.

For example:
http://www.raleighnc.gov/government/content/PubAffairs/Articles/QuestionCommentConcern.html

"To report a concern with a City of Raleigh police officer, call Internal Affairs at 919-996-3155"

We do not have a handy form you can fill out and mail in, either.

Similarly:

http://www.townofcary.org/Departments/police/FAQ.htm#howtofile

but even in Albuquerque (for example), even with the form, you still have to give them your name and who you're making a complaint against. If you wrote "Bill - last name not given because I don't want to go to jail" that complaint would get just as much attention.

Forget the form, just follow the cop home and take care of the issue in person. They love it when you do that.

That was a dumb video and this is a stupid thread.

And you're a fucking idiot if you think you should be able to just go in, pick up a complaint form, take it home and fill it out, and turn it in at your leisure (even if that's how they do it at some police stations). Do you understand how dumb and inefficient that is in regards to the criminal system?? Sure there was probably a few dumb cops that took it too far in that video (I couldn't get past 2 minutes of that stupid shit)...but the guy in the video was being a fucking retard.

I don't even like cops (in general), but that was a dumb fucking video.

Someone commits a crime, you should have to sit down and talk to a police officer about it. They'll take your statement, but you need to sit down with a professional in the field and make the complaint.

You realize all the idiots (like yourself) that would just come in and fill out complaints if that were the procedure?? You aren't filling out a complaint form about your shitty service or undercooked burger at a restaurant. You're talking about reporting a crime that could get someone put in jail...or at the very least start an investigation.

Are you that dumb?

Lots of police departments have the capability to accept reports filed online:

http://crc.raleighpd.org/
http://www.wspdp2c.org/ReportIncident/IncidentEntryIntro.aspx
http://p2c.greensboro-nc.gov/IncidentEntryIntro.aspx

I don't understand why it's so outside the realm of possibility to think you could pick up a complaint form and file it yourself (THEN talk to an officer). Honestly, the most disturbing part is the fact that a citizen can walk into a police station, ask questions about filing a report (not actually do it), and then be arrested for failing to identify themselves. Does it surprise me that cops are dicks about this kind of thing? No, but it is appalling just the same.

your only argument here is that there would be more complaints

no shit. there should be. people are afraid to submit complaints and this video illustrates why that is.

i don't know who shit in your cereal today, but think about what you're saying.

The point is that it would add so much bull-shit to an already "full of bullshit" system. Having to sit down with an officer to file a police report dissuades a great number of people from actually filing a complaint in the first place. Because they will ultimately get to the point where they realize that its ridiculous.

But then if they actually do sit down and start to lay out the situation, the officer can then wade through the bullshit and get to the problem (if there actually is one). So you weed out a bunch of crap complaints there as well. And if there actually is a situation worth looking into, you have it right then and there. The officer knows which questions to ask to get to the crux of the situation and there is less time wasted.

But if you have this form thing, you have to check every. single. bullshit. complaint...no matter what. You've got a complaint that will probably filled with a bunch of dumb ass rambling, 99% of it which will not help the "investigation" at all...so you're going to have to sit down with the officer anyway and go through the whole situation, which could have been done in the first place without adding the extra step.

Which comes down to the big picture...IT WOULD BE A GIGANTIC WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY FOR THE OFFICERS AND TAXPAYERS.

Quote :

You've got to be kidding me. That's the last thing people are afraid to do. I'm an attorney and about 30% of my work is criminal. I know a ton of cops...and they get a ton of bullshit calls and complaints. Probably about 80% of their job is responding to calls and complaints that don't amount to anything.

The kid in this video created the situations. He acted like he was a criminal...not wanting to provide ID, being all evasive with his questions like he was hiding something. He's 90% responsible for the shit that happened to him. I hope he gets sued by the fucking police departments that he put in this video.

Wouldn't it be easier and more efficient to sort through paper complaints to determine which are legitimate, rather than have a meeting with every plaintiff?

From that point, any legitimate complaint is not a waste of taxpayer money.

Please tell me how it is wasting your personal freedom?

It will be a lot more beneficial to you to sit down with a cop and file a report rather than go home and write down an illegible story of what you thought happened.

How many statements in police reports have you guys actually read??

I said above that I'm still not the biggest fan of cops. I'm also being the most reasonable person in this thread.

[I'm also not condoning him being arrested. Like I said, I could only get through 2 or 3 minutes of that video before I couldn't watch anymore. But that guy was being sketchy as fuck and was asking to be fucked with. Didn't deserve to be arrested, but there are obviously some dumb cops out there. .]

^^ I'm defending the fact that it's perfectly reasonable to HAVE to sit down with an officer to file a police report.

Being able to take complaints home and fill them out like they're customer service surveys is stupid.

^ He was acting sketchy as fuck. If you get pulled over and start acting like that, you're going to get searched on the spot. You come into a police department and start acting like that and expect to get treated like a model citizen?? You've got to be kidding me.

maybe the thread could be titled better, but jbrick this isn't about "filing a police report" to report a crime that was committed like your house was broken into or somebody hit your car and ran

its about filing a complaint against an officer...just making sure you know what you're even arguing

That was not made clear by the thread title...or even most of the video (never heard the guy said he wanted to file a report against a police officer).

But still doesn't change my reasoning. Actually, probably adds to it. You'd get a complaint for every speeding ticket written if that was the case.
