pretty tense blowout. team has some things to figure out. talent is there, we've seen gottfriend do a lot with a lot less. just tense. will give the benefit of the doubt since it's basically a brand new team, just wish they'd have more fun w/ a 25 point win or w/e it was.

They were hustlers. the one that could shoot was a battier type player and could play for me anyday. The type of player that irritates the other team, gets loose balls, and does a little bit of everything.

as for DSJ, i was saying last year the people expect him to immediately come in and be as good as/better than Cat had super high expectations. Just look how long it took Brandon Ingram to get the hang of things.

Im not too worried about DSJ. He looked good in the exhibition games and Gott is using so many different rotations of players right now that I think its going to make things a little more difficult. Its obvious we are emphasizing different things in each game.

Dorn looked great.

A lot of people are pumped about Kapitas scoring and rebounding and hustle, which was all great. But man, dont overlook how defensively polished he is. Talk about a guy who knows how to get up straight and tall and avoid a foul with whistle happy refs. That plus his leadership on defense pointing out players and telling people where to go. The man was on another level today. If he plays like that all season, he is our best big.

Defense, offense, and rebounding all improved with BJ out. He is too slow to rebound and is outjumped by smaller quicker guys. He cant switch on defense quickly enough and is took slow to put the ball up. Look, I love the dude, but he just doesnt have it. He has a role, and it is to come in when were are in bad foul trouble or when there is a certain matchup issue that his girth could solve. Because even Hicks looks better. Hicks has looked great as a freshman, what a surprise.

Obviously 3pt shooting is worrisome. Really want Terry to be that guy or Mav. But man it sucks that we dont have a money three point shooter. Just need a guy who can hit a wide open practice shot most of the time. Spencer Newman couldve legitimately had a role on this team if he hadnt gotten hurt. Still early though, hoping Mav had some sense knocked into him and Terry can turn it on from outside.

What an amazing recruiting class this is shaping up to be. What a steal some of this guys might be. Long way to go though fellas. Cant wait to play some more serious teams in the virgin islands.

Looking at our next three potential opponents:

Montana lost at USC by 14. We can scout them tomorrow night as they play Wyoming. But that first result looks good for our W chances.

Creighton beat UMKC by 7. Looks like they are a little overhyped. They play Wisconsin Tuesday so should be a good game to tune into.

Washington State only beat Montana State by 4. So doesnt look like they are setting the world on fire either.

I am not worried about Smith at all. His shot isn't falling, but that's the only thing that's not clicking. He's hitting his free throws, his ball handling, driving, and passing are already great, he's not turning the ball over (1 turnover per game) and he's leading the team. He'll improve his field goal shooting.

Wouldn't shock me if we lost a couple early, our team is still figuring itself out and meshing. We have a LOT of new pieces finally playing their first meaningful minutes, add to the fact that we won't get Yurtseven back for 7 more games and then we'll have to work him back into the rotation.

It's going to be bumpy early, but the goal has always been to use the OOC to tune up for the regular season. If you're expecting to hit the regular season undefeated, then I think you're going to be disappointed.

During a normal season where we have a strong OOC, that may be true. This is the weakest OOC schedule we have had since I can remember. I would be disappointed to lose to any of the teams we will be facing.
