Don't have any hatred, and last night's game was a depressive reflection period. This needed to be done.

Bad bc we can't really talk to anyone now anyway and gives time for coaches to back-channel recruit our players

Please Archie! Please come to Raleigh. Please bring Morgan and family back to NC. Please take this talent and help them play defense. You would be a God here. You can coach here until you retire. K, Boeheim, Roy, Pitino, Larranga, Hamilton are all old. We can dominate the ACC for the next 20 years. Us and UVA. Let's do it. I'll drive to Dayton to help after you make another run in this year's Dance.

We haven't done well with coaches or assistants on that staff with hot daughters. i.e. Gottfried, Trestman, Fowler, etc...

1.) Sean Miller- Solid track record, needs new ground and better talent plus he was an asst here once.
2.) Gregg Marshall- NCSU>Shockers let's be honest. You could do better here.
3.) Calipari- He knows the SEC is weak, if he wants to show he can battle the best coaches in the land...
4.) Archie Miller- If his brother turns us down, he's the next Miller in line ala homecoming.
5.) Mike Montgomery-Cal wasn't a bad spot and he can get results.

I don't have ESPN insider anymore (completely not worth it) but here's Pack Pride's Premium take from James Henderson.

Quote :
"1. Archie Miller (Dayton): No doubt, No. 1 target. This is the third basketball search I'll be doing and I'm not sure there was ever a more clear-cut No. 1 target, especially for the fans. He is successful, a hot name, young, energetic, and a Wolfpacker.

2. Gregg Marshall (Wichita State): His buyout is only 500K, but he makes over three million per year. He will cost a lot, but damn he's a great coach. You want guys to play hard and play defense? Go get Gregg Marshall.

3. Will Wade (VCU): This is a name that I think fits some of the qualities mentioned by Goodman. Wade has some edge to him... go check out a few of his press conferences. He was a big reason why I liked Shaka Smart the first time around... Wade is a terrific recruiter. He's just 34 years old, but he's already coached, and won, at two programs. He has major recruiting ties to the area.

4. Scott Drew (Baylor): If you're targeting a high-major P5 coach who could be looking to move, Drew might be the guy. He's won at Baylor... Baylor and after building it up has sustained things. While he's been unable to get over the Kansas hump in the BIG 12, he is just 46 years old and has two Elite Eights and a Sweet Sixteen... at Baylor.

5. Kevin Keatts (UNC Wilmington): For me, this would the “floor” option I talked about earlier. Other candidates could fit that bill as well, but I think Keatts would jump at the opportunity to coach at NC State. He comes with some risk, coming from a low-major school like UNC Wilmington, but he's won big everywhere and has great ties to the area having coached at UNCW, Hargrave, and Louisville."

Ben Howland, Mississippi State
Backups
Kevin Keatts, UNCW

I'd rather take a shot at a young guy low major guy than another rehab job, it's gonna be a crapshoot either way and I doubt we're gonna get our top choices.

Oh did i mention they imply Georgia is a better job than State? Because they do.

Quote :
"But the question becomes whether this is the job that Wade leaves Richmond for, or whether he'd rather see if he can get something he feels is better. Georgia or Clemson (his alma mater) could have openings."

yup. there's a time and place for a retread coach. if your program is in the shitter and you want a coach that has experience running a big time program, recruiting at this level, and can probably provide some immediate stability and publicity/improved rep then a retread is good way to go for a short term solution. but it likely won't be long term. there's a reason those coaches are "retreads" and not in currently comfortable situations. of course there are always some exceptions. i feel like last time was a fine time to go the retread route, even if it wasn't our initial plan. Gott accomplished what we expected and did what he was hired to do...of course it derailed fast and painfully, but he bridged the gap between the lowest of lows with the Sid era to putting the program on a more respectable footing today. now would be the time to search for a more long term solution.

The hot takes have already begun. Writers rushing to publish their piece about how any new coach will be fired if he doesn't win 2 national Champs in his first season and consistently beat UNC and Duke by at least 80 pts.

This should be simple

You go after Archie. Promise him whatever he wants. Money? Not a problem. Yow gone and and his best bud from his college days replaces her as AD? Sure, why not

Put in a call to Marshall or whatever other pipe dream types are out there if you have any indication it's worth pursuing. Not a huge investment, probably a 10 minute call to gauge interest before moving on.

Then you drive down to Wilmington and pick up Keatts. That's it. I'm not real interested in any of these lateral move P5 types but if someone really wants our job there's plenty of time for that to sort itself out.

I, for one, am more concerned about Keatts inexperience in the college game than most of you apparently. He would be at the bottom of my list, definitely behind Moton and Wade.

BTW I want Wade because I probably made fun of him when he was a student manager at Clemson. Also he is younger than most of you people, so that would be fun.

I tend to agree with tower. However, I think the real discussion comes in at Keatts. There's a pool of mid major types that Yow would have to weed through.

I think Yow will try to get the obvious names, but if they don't want to do it, I think she'll go for the retread.

Considering she's going to retire shortly, she may just hire a decent fill-in and let the next AD handle the task of putting in their preferred people.
