yahoo's really got some good analysis here:
https://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy-football-picks-1-20-overrated-underrated-safest-bet-184522389.html
Quote : | "Every year, players either surpass, meet or fall short of expectations, both on the football field and in the fantasy realm. For fantasy purposes, drafting the players who meet or exceed expectations is absolutely crucial, especially in the early rounds. Miss in the first round and you’ll struggle to produce wins without consistent big scorers. Hit in these rounds and you’ll get consistent production every week from the guys you’re counting on" |
definitely sounds like it's written by a kid. "some player do good and some don't do good...you should hope to draft the good ones because it will mean more wins"8/7/2017 3:44:41 PM |

Only like 4 people listed in that write up...garbage
My plan this year is to look back last year and see who was the most consistent week to week in terms of scoring and stay away from bad teams. Good teams normally have good skill position players. Like Fournette in Jax, stay away from him but someone like Freeman in Atl is a good choice.
My only issue is picking a TE not named Gronk 8/7/2017 4:02:04 PM |

yeah that write up was lame...but pretty typical of July/August fantasy stuff...just get clicks as people try to cram for their drafts. especially on stuff like "underrated/overrated players". 8/7/2017 5:17:17 PM |

Probably too early for this, but I'll list my typical first question. Which players would you keep? Any 3 that were on the roster.
For Sure Keeping:
OBJ
Other options (pick 2):
Marcus Mariota Mark Ingram Ameer Abdullah Eric Decker Philip Rivers Will Fuller Jamaal Charles
That's about it. Not a lot to choose from. Ingram would have been the safe choice (and maybe still is) but who knows what AP will be. Abdullah will probably get most of the work in Det, but like.. so what. Mariota might be good, but QBs aren't really valued in the first couple rounds unless you're Brady or Rodgers. Charles was put on there as a joke, unless something miraculous happens.
I'll be picking 5th so I'll get one of Jordan Howard, Leonard Fournette, McCaffrey (don't think I want), Joe Mixon, Marshawn Lynch or maybe a Michael Thomas or Terelle Pryor. 8/7/2017 6:37:05 PM |

Howard will be getting all the workload in Chicago likely.
But what round did you get rivers in? He might be worth it, he's gonna chunk it. Fuller is out with an injury, eliminate him.

yeah outta those options, rivers or mariota might be the best bet i guess.
i'm picking 5th in a 10 team 0.5 ppr league...most sites have OBJ ranked as #2 WR (behind Brown). but i think i prefer Julio Jones...unless one of the top 4 guys (Zeke, Brown, Bell, D. Johnson) fall to 5 in my draft, which i find fairly unlikely. what do y'all think about the #5 pick? 8/8/2017 6:31:33 AM |

Zeke may fall if he gets that rumored suspension for a few games. Don't think you can wrong with Julio or OBJ, though I'm kinda intrigued by OBJ w/Marshall taking some attention away. 8/8/2017 8:21:33 AM |

This is my first season working with keepers from previous, and I'm not sure who to keep. We are in a 3 keeper league (keep up to 3, not required), and basically I gutted my team at the end of last year to prep for this year.
I'm keeping Julio and OBJ, but really need a RB. I picked up Lynch before he was signed to the Raiders, so he could be a keeper.
Would you keep Lynch in the hopes that beast mode returns? Or only keep 2 and hope to snag a mid-tier RB in round 3?
All of the main RBs are obviously gone due to a 10 team, 3 keeper league. 8/8/2017 8:43:42 AM |

Quote : | "though I'm kinda intrigued by OBJ w/Marshall taking some attention away." |
this is true, and along those lines...how much more desirable does that make Eli as a fantasy QB? i mean, he's still Eli and i'm not gonna draft him early at all...but as a later round QB i think he's got some potential for big games with improved weapons.8/8/2017 10:34:29 AM |

^ The first 3 rounds of the draft are your three keepers. So if I keep Lynch, OBJ and Julio that's pick 1, 2, and 3. If I only keep 2, then round 3 I would be able to pick whoever. Including Lynch if he's still available. 8/8/2017 10:51:36 AM |

Does everyone really expect Lynch to come back and be good? How many RBs have retired and came back and had a meaningful season except maybe Ricky Williams?
Feels like this will be the draft of the rookie RBs. So many rookie RBs sit atop depth charts on their teams right now. 8/8/2017 11:24:45 AM |

Depends on league size and keeper rules.
I like keepers for larger leagues and long-lasting leagues(multiple years where you're not swapping people out of the league). I also don't care for standard 1-keeper leagues where it's just your 1st round pick. I prefer multiple keepers and preferably value-based keeper leagues. Currently in 2 value-based keeper leagues so it really benefits to take flyers on guys and draft rookies late.
Picked up David Johnson as a rookie. Nice to keep him for a late round pick 2 years in a row. 8/10/2017 3:21:05 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25532 Posts user info edit post |
it all depends.
one league i'm in does no keepers and has had very few changes in owners over the years and it's been a strong, active league for 10+ years now. the other league i'm in is a keeper league and it's pretty active and strong for ~5 years. both leagues are fun and both are different.
way more factors go into making a league fun and long-lasting than keepers. i'd argue it's almost exclusively about having active owners that you're friends with or can become friends with. 8/10/2017 4:13:05 PM |

My draft is this weekend. I hate my friend for always holding it so damn early because invariably somebody I draft gets hurt in training camp or in the first or second preseason game. This is actually late for him this year, usually we are doing it the first week of August.
2016 - Romo 2015 - Arian Foster 2013 - Maclin 2011 - Manning (Risky pick by me, but when I drafted him people were saying he'd only miss a game or two) 8/10/2017 4:27:01 PM |

Need to figure out my keepers. PPR. Here is list and round they would count toward if I keep. Can keep up to 3:
Newton - R5(likely keeping) Snead - R8 Murray - R1 Rob Kelley - R10 Rivers - R4 Gabriel - R10 Derick Henry - R4 Hunter Henry - R10 Smallwood - R10 LaFell - R10 Abdullah - R5
I pick 3rd so doubt I'll keep Murray as I don't think I want him as my 1st pick at 3. 8/12/2017 8:08:44 AM |

^^ I suspect it will be Johnson, Bell, Brown, then Julio. Ive seen some experts talk about Mike Evans in the 5 spot instead of ODB. Evans was the #2 WR in standard scoring last year (behind Jordy Nelson) without having a complementary receiver to help draw coverage. Thought is that D Jax will help clear some space for Evans this year.

Looking for some input...10-team ppr league.
I have Eddie Lacy at the end of a long line of mediocre running backs. I see Jamaal Charles sitting in free-agency and feel like he'll eventually take over the starting position in Denver assuming he stays healthy (big assumption, I know).
Do I drop Lacy and pick-up Charles in hopes that he returns to stud-form and can be a solid RB2 for me? Or do I hang on to Lacy in hopes he becomes running-back-by-committee chairman in Seattle? From what I've read, Rawls is the preferred starter there, but he has glass bones, so I'm not high on him, even though he's sitting in free-agency as well.
Thoughts? 9/7/2017 1:21:17 PM |
