Nope, just trying to impress a bunch of random strangers online
In all seriousness though, I do like the pre-season games. I like the HoF game for hearing about the history of the game, and all the pre-season games have a kind of excitement to them, sure the quality's not as good as what it could be but I like seeing the players try to make the roster and compete

Preseason NFL football is awful.
Game 1: 2nd and 3rd stringers play. Rookies learn the ins and outs of pro football. Game 2: 1st string may play a quarter or 1 series. 2nd and 3rd stringers play the rest Game 3: 1st string may play a whole half. Game 4: No starters play. Scrubs have their last shot to make a roster.
Games are mostly meaningless and you can't determine how your team will perform on the season. It sucks that the player's union won't agree to an 18 game regular season. A 2 game preseason and an 18 game regular season would be more enjoyable for the fans. 8/6/2019 2:08:42 PM |

I agree with their motives. It would be like your boss asking you to work a few extra weekends a year for the same salary. More stress/chance of injury, with extra income going into the owner's pocket. 8/6/2019 2:28:27 PM |

Why does Antonio Brown have such a problem with the approved helmets? 8/12/2019 4:49:18 PM |
Kickstand All American 11592 Posts user info edit post |
I can't find specifics. Only this.
Quote : | "According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brown has told the Raiders that he won't play football unless he gets to wear his old helmet, which has now been banned by the NFL because it is no longer certified by the National Operating Committee for Standards and Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE). Brown, who filed a grievance against the NFL to wear his old helmet, believes the new helmets interfere with his ability to catch the ball, according to Schefter." |

Plenty of speculation that AB is trying to deflect the conversation from his feet.
Apparently Justin Gatlin had the same injury and said AB wouldn't be able to run for "months". Think AB and his crew are trying to delay because if the Raiders confirm that he can't play because of a non-football injury then it can void his contract. 8/13/2019 8:27:31 AM |

Don't really get all the criticism of the Indy fans for booing. I don't think this happens if he does this any time other time than less than two weeks before the season after being reassured the whole time he's gonna play.
I mean if this happens in May or right after he gets hurt again they'd never have done that 8/25/2019 12:03:48 PM |

Not saying its cool to do it but I get it if you're there at a game and all the while you've been told he's gonna come back and play the season and you get an alert he's retiring now right before the season you might be a little irked in the moment. 8/25/2019 1:39:55 PM |

The fans should be booing the front office in that case, not Luck. They're the ones that have been saying he's fine. Hell the owner has even said he's not sure this retirement will last.
I really have no problem with how Luck handled this. His intention was to tell his teammates yesterday and have a press conference today, but in this age of social media, somebody in that colts locker room just had to be the guy to give that info up early.
The Colts should have been preparing for this for years (I'm not really sure they have, since Brissett is on the final year of his contract) because it's been clear Luck has had issues coming back from injury. Honestly this retirement isn't as surprising as everyone has made it out to be. I saw a tweet that said this is now the most surprising retirement ever, even more so than Jim Brown. O couldn't disagree more. This isn't even as surprising as Megatron.] 8/25/2019 1:42:04 PM |

I live in Indiana now, the less rabid fans are kinda "you want to retire, okay, why did you wait til right before the season starts to do it?"

How can you prepare for this for years with how the NFL and the quarterback position operates? They prepared to replace Peyton Manning when he got old, that was Andrew Luck, and Manning left to go win another Super Bowl at Denver. New England had prepared for Tom Brady getting old, and Garrapolo was "I'm good enough to start, see ya". This is what infuriates me about the NFL, it is a one-dimensional league in the end with everything depending on one player. No one out there has Steve Young sitting for years as a backup waiting to start. Most of the successful QB switches are unplanned and surprises. For planned switches of guys that don't suck, you can go the Tom Brady/Patriots route of "No Plan B available, if I get injured, forfeit every remaining game" or you can go the Favre/Rodgers/Packers or Manning/Luck/Colts route of "Thank you Legend for your time and service, but you're old and getting replaced". And Luck isn't old, he's 29.

The Colts have apparently heard rumors that he was going to retire for months. I guess they are fine with Brissett moving forward for now at least. Teams don't exactly have the money to sign a $20M+/year QB when they're already paying another QB $20+M a year] 8/26/2019 6:51:07 PM |

^^sources on “for months”? Most earliest I’ve heard is 2 weeks, around the time the explanation changed to “little bone” in his leg rather than calf. Most reports I’ve read say in the last 10 days. Months is a bit of exaggeration. 8/26/2019 10:33:07 PM |

Indy sports radio blog:
Quote : | "INDIANAPOLIS – Some more details have emerged from Andrew Luck’s shocking retirement.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the Luck news late on Saturday night.
On Monday morning, Schefter released a podcast providing a few more details on the Luck story.
-We know that Andrew Luck told Jacoby Brissett on Friday, of the retirement. But it sounds like a few more teammates knew. “Andrew Luck was telling select people,” Schefter said. “Like he told Jacoby Brissett, that he was retiring and walking away from the game. There weren’t many players at all who did know, but there were a select view. And there were plenty who didn’t.” So for those caring about a possible ‘leak’, it could have happened from different spots.
-It was pretty amazing to hear Schefter recount some of the texts he received from GMs around the league on Saturday: “I don’t think I’ve ever had a reaction that that story generated to where literally my phone buzzed 25 times instantaneously and nobody believed the story,” Schefter said. “I had one general manager text me, ‘Liar.’ Another one, ‘Is this made up?’ Another one, ‘Is this a fake Adam Schefter account.’”
-Schefter said that the Colts were first debating a Friday OR a Sunday press conference to announce the Luck news. “Later in the week, the Colts had a decision: whether to have Andrew Luck’s retirement press conference on Friday afternoon or to wait until they got through their preseason game, before they would hold their press conference on 3:00 PM ET, Sunday, August 25th,” Schefter said. “The Colts made the decision to hold the press conference Sunday, knowing full well that word could leak out, eventually and that somebody could wind up reporting that Andrew Luck was retiring and that is exactly what happened.”
Along with Schefter, King added some more information in his Football Morning In America article that he posted early on Monday morning:
-King shared this Matt Hasselbeck anecdote: Matt Hasselbeck, told me Sunday, “I thought Adam Schefter got hacked. I was sitting there watching the college game Saturday night and saw it. It stopped me in my tracks. Stunned. I was in Indy on Friday, and I got no sense of this.”
-King caught up with Frank Reich on Sunday: Reich told me Luck’s latest injury, to his left calf, was “like child’s play” compared to his return after all his shoulder issues. But in the days after Luck talked to me in training camp, he felt more pain in rehab. Further examination revealed a more extensive and slightly mysterious injury stretching from the calf to his ankle. There would be no quick fix. More rehab, and a good chance he’d either have to play hobbled, and in significant pain, if he played at the start of the season. Which led Luck to Irsay’s office last Monday. The meeting last a little more than two hours. Ballard and Reich soon realized this was not I think I’m going to retire. This was, It’s over.
-Like was thought, possible alternatives to retiring were discussed by all parties: There was a time in Monday’s meeting when options were suggested. One of them: Take his time healing the right way without hurrying, and go on IR with a return designation, meaning he could return for the last two months of the season if he got healthy. That seemed to make the most sense—he’d have nine weeks from now to see if the calf/ankle could be fixed, and the Colts would have been more than happy to take the risk of paying $21.25 million for Luck to try to play in 2019, with backup Jacoby Brissett taking some or all the snaps this season. But whatever alternatives got suggested, Luck, one of the smartest players in any sport, seemed immovable. “My mind’s made up,” he said.
