I played UNC Finley for the first time today... it was a really nice and fun course (minus the UNC shit being shoved down your throat every chance possible). I played pretty well too, and finally got my drive consistent to what I am trying to do

keep your head down

keep on staring at the ground even after you've hit the ball. Your swing momentum will eventually bring your head up and then you can look at your well struck ball.

dont give up

prolly more than just keeping your head down

could be your clubs are the wrong size, could be your stance, or even your swing plane.

id have to see it to diagnose it, but work on taking out the grass under it, big clumps

^yea i figured I would address the easiest thing to fix first

and like you said its hard to diagnose without seeing the actual swing

I'm still trying to get a set of irons but I'm also looking for advice on drivers and woods. Which ones do I need to get and what are some good brands for a beginner?

[Edited on July 21, 2008 at 10:59 AM. Reason : nothing too expensive]

For a beginner, the brand really doesn't matter. A beginner doesn't really hit the ball consistently enough to notice a difference in brands or styles. Get some cheap used ones on craigslist.

Stay away from blades and do some basic research about length, etc. and you are set.

so i have a set of Ping IST-K clubs I need to sell. They have some sort of graphite shafts on them.

It's a 3-PW set, but the 4 iron has a crack on the shaft near the base so it needs a new shaft.

How much should I try to sell the set for?

I also have two Nickent hybrids (3 and 4) that I need to sell too (both come with head covers). How much for those?

cobra clubs are probably the best for beginners... but i also agree on get any club set you come across (cheap).. cobras are just so forgiving that they make the game a bit easier to play.

^, why are you selling? those nickent hybrids are pretty good from what i have heard, they compete with some of the top brands. ive never hit them.. but a few people have them and love them.

ok kind of a weird question for this thread, but i'm thinking about applying for jobs as a Club tech at some golf store in the area at nights and on the weekend. I really want to be an engineer for a golf company and want to know the ins and outs of how to assemble clubs and what works well with what.

Anyone know of anyone hiring or ever worked as an engineer for a golf club company?

ehh, well you'd want to goto a custom fitting store.

Z golf, used to be called falls golf complex (maybe it still is). its a driving range off of falls of the neuse near 540. they specialize in custom fitting clubs.

Does anyone on here suck really bad at golf? I go about twice a year. Tonight I shot a 102 and Knights Play Par 3 Golf Center. I've shot a 127 at Eagle Ridge too. I need someone reliable to play golf with next summer.

Tonight I had scheduled 18 holes at Knights Play with a friend (sort of). I had asked him if he wanted to play because I had a gift certificate that I had gotten from a friend for Christmas that I wanted to use before school started. He got to the club house and called me sort of pissed off because he wanted to know why I didn't wait for him in the parking lot. He walked in and thought I was going to use the gift certificate to pay for his round too, but I wasn't ($15 and it belonged to me anyway). Then I was planning to go to the driving range, but he wanted to get their early, so we could start early. He got pissed because I was going to hit balls first. Then I told him I was planning to walk since it was cheaper. He got pissed off and said it was 75 degrees outside, so he wasn't walking. I tried to offer to ride instead, but after I finished paying he called me and was angry and said I had offered to pay for both rounds with the gift certificate. He said he was going home and hung up the phone. LOL!

sorry, I just had to tell my story.

^He's just an old single grumpy guy. He's really nice as long as you don't piss him off for some stupid reason. He isn't good at socalizing.

btw, I got pared with a guy who is pretty good and a 7th grader who looks to have a bright future in golf. They got upset because the crowd ahead of us was playing slow, so they skipped a hole. I played alone for the final four holes since the guy behind me had gotten into an argument with the ranger about his start time and maybe having to play with people he didn't know (I was not about to offer to play toghter). After all of this happened and I was standing on the tee alone and hit my first green. I ended up getting my only par of the night and no one was there to see it. LMAO!

^I love going to Knights Play for that reason. It's great in the summer after the sun goes down. I don't like to walk on a full sized course though.

fucking flies everywhere, not when it cools down that much though I suppose.

I think I shot a 60 there the other day, i'm still not hitting my new sand wedge well.

^^^^^ and a guy like that doesn't belong on a golf course.

yeah? Any range that you know of that has one? Golf Galaxy won't give your your money back if you go to the range with it and don't like it, you have to trade it in for store credit.

they just turned their store into a fitting store. im pretty sure they still do have demos.

i dont remember if knights play had one or not.

call around and ask. but i'm pretty sure about falls golf complex. search falls golf complex, not sure if the name change has been updated

yea my buddy works for zgolf in charlotte at the ballantyne resort

they take the swing monitors outside on the range to measure clubhead speed, launch angle, etc. to help ya find a good club that fits your swing

lol

i know the technology is out there.... but i find it really hard to hit accurately indoors.

goto a range where you can see real results.

i did the same.. i was at golfsmith hitting on their monitors being consistent at like 280 or so.

i mean, i can hit that far. ive hit past 300 before. but in no way am i consistent like i was on the indoor monitors.

part-time outside operations (cart staff) positions are available at Brier Creek Country Club. Primarily need availability on weekdays. Only looking for 2-3 shifts per week. Postion only pays $7/hour + tips, however golf privileges are also a benefit. Let me know if you are interested.

I need to get my clubs re-gripped, which I've never needed to do before, and I need a couple of hosels repaired. Recommendations on where to take them? How much does it cost, and how long will it take?
