Bannon had to separate himself from Trump at some point and this is obviously all part of the long-term strategy. Its 2018 and the media is eating it up as expected. 1/3/2018 3:57:18 PM |

In all honesty, a lot of the MSM quoting this book and talking about dementia is making me really uncomfortable.
I actually think he is in decline but not because of some known attention grabbers book. 1/4/2018 9:18:33 AM |

^^ all the instances where the talk about how trump repeats stories over and over, that is textbook dementia and if you have a family member with alzheimers all of those stories will sound very familiar to you 1/4/2018 11:53:30 AM |

Don't disagree, but declaring a President mentally incompetent to forcefully remove them from office is a very dangerous precedent. Trump making it through a full term and losing reelection is by far the best option. 1/4/2018 12:25:53 PM |

well we could have listened to carter and setup up an independent group to look at these kinds of things, but i think a clearly mentally compromised president making nuclear threads is much scarier than any precedent. i don't think they could have thought of a president like donald trump when they passed the 25th amendment, but i don't understand why it shouldn't be used when a president is so clearly mentally compromised. 1/4/2018 12:45:54 PM |

That’s moronic thinking, at least in the Trump era
If it’s allowed by law and Constitution it should be considered. Do you really want to sit through extra years of trump if it can be avoided?
It’s not normal for a reality tv star to be president, it’s not normal to fire the head of the fbi investigating you.
Restraining yourself from doing what you’re allowed to do because it doesn’t seem “normal” or you might hurt some feelings is how shamelessly corrupt people manipulate others. 1/4/2018 1:13:58 PM |

It's not really a dangerous "precedent," the Constitution (via the 25th Amendment) is settled on this. Don't forget it was an amendment and not some random EO or bill passed. States actually had to ratify this.
Agree with dtownral and considering what it takes for it to happen (in terms of how many people and the procedures and such) it would not concern me one bit if it was used here (or quite frankly in any other circumstance). I think it was established with enough safeguards to prevent an outright coup, not to mention the fact that whoever takes over still has to go through the electoral process the next time around.1/4/2018 1:14:37 PM |

The problem is that unless he is actually physically incapacitated, he can challenge it. Then 2/3s of both Houses of Congress would need to uphold the declaration that he's unable to perform the duties. That's actually a higher bar than impeachment. Would never happen.
Besides, his cadre of sycophants and traitors would never do such a thing. Just look those cabinet circle jerks he has every few months, where they all take turns kissing the ring.

i understand practically that it doesn't have support, i'm just saying that being worried about precedent isn't a good reason not to want to use the 25th
if trump had a stroke there wouldn't be any discussion on if the 25th was applicable, but because he has a disease that presents itself slowly and gradually we have to pretend like it only applies to physical disabilities?

Is anyone besides his narrowing base pretending this isn't dementia? I think you give too much credit to Republican Congresspeople who would never make that move as long as Trump's (mostly) supporting their agenda. 1/4/2018 2:38:49 PM |

Oh I definitely agree that getting them to do it is another issue. House Republicans are pretty much lock step with him, all the way up to Paul Ryan.
Even Senate GOP is concerning. Lindsey Graham is looking for a special counsel to investigate the dossier. That shit doesn't even compute. 1/4/2018 2:40:11 PM |

Every expert who watches Trump will easily notice his decreased verbal skills and vocabulary, there is no question or debate
Additionally the whole point of the 25th amendment is that it isn't easy, so multiple important people would need to agree
tl;dr worrying about precedent is nonsense

The 25th amendment doesn't say anything about verbal skills or vocabulary. Its standard is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office" and Trump does not unambiguously meet that standard.1/5/2018 12:39:24 AM |

I don't understand why it is so out of the realm of possibility for some people that we have a man in his 70's that might be showing signs of dementia. It happens.
Look at Ronald Reagan. He got out before it really set in, but had he been around much longer, we would have seen signs. 1/6/2018 9:39:38 AM |

You know, regardless of whether this Wolff guy's book is fiction or non-fiction, the right is saying that it is an attack on the presidency. Sure, ok whatever.
Anybody remember those movies that came out regarding Obama's treason? I mean this is all just part of the game. If Trump and his people just ignored it, like Obama ignored most of his negative press, it would just go away.

I feel like the most awkward part of Trump's appearance during the national anthem is that he would smile anytime that the crowd would cheer, as if the entire crowd was cheering for him.
It's similar to how, when he addressed both chambers of Congress, he would say, "Thank you," anytime Congress applauded his statements, as if they were actually applauding him. 1/9/2018 10:02:17 AM |
