right, i agree with you. i think the hope is that hines and samuels are so versatile that we shouldn't have to resort to end arounds and gadget plays to get them the ball. if they work, that's great. but hopefully Drinkwitz can simply get them the ball more in every facet of the offensive....gadget plays, pass plays, run plays, etc. of course, you're right, some of that does require a competent qb.
Quote : | "Who is our TE? Is Moss going to RS?" |
don't know if Moss will RS or not. Samuels is obviously listed as a TE but doesn't line up as a traditional TE all that often. Pharoah McKever, converted from DE, will be our TE in a more traditional sense. he had a long TD catch and run in the bowl game

I imagine Cole Cook will be involved too but irrc, he mostly blocked. I did notice Moss was on the roster, does that mean his shirt is gone? 7/28/2016 2:41:43 PM |

nah, redshirts are listed on the roster along with everybody else. in fact, i don't think redshirts are even official until after the season. it's probably a little early for the staff to be definitively making that call one way or the other. 7/28/2016 3:22:08 PM |

After reviewing some film myself, I get the impression this year will feature LOTS of wrinkles. reverses, jet sweeps, triple options with the pass...
Basically Auburn with Newton but on crack passing wise.
Auburn meets the air raid.
Lots of on the fly personnel changes. The QB has to be able to read EVERYTHING the defense is doing pre-snap 7/28/2016 3:23:12 PM |

Required watching should be Utah State v. Boise State. So you get an idea what a Drinkwitz offense looks like when the Oline is obliterated on nearly every play. That's what I'm preparing myself to see

Really think our new OL coach is going to be legit, it just might take him a season or 2 to train our guys up.
Though I really like the interior of our OL, but some huge questions marks at OT. 8/1/2016 9:15:29 AM |

Sounds like it's actually a 2-QB battle right now between McClendon and Findley unless Meyers heals up soon.
Though I do expect if we struggle or get an injury they'll turn to Meyers as the back-up to spark our offense. 8/2/2016 9:14:43 AM |

LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think it's "serious" but it seems to be enough to keep him limited in practice for a bit. When you're having a QB competition, missing several days doesn't help your cause.
Not saying he won't end up the starter, but for now I think it's much more likely that McClendon starts the first game. 8/3/2016 1:48:26 PM |

I think regardless of injury or no, McClendon will get the nod game 1 due to seniority. He's waited his turn for past 3 years, he'll get his shot. DD is like Toby in that way.
HOWEVER, it will be only be a matter of time before Meyers starts getting the snaps. Probably after McClendon is sacked 20 times getting our ass handed to us by ECU (embarrassing), we will move to the guy with the wheels and tha feels. 8/3/2016 2:53:34 PM |

If you made a bell curve of probability of outcome. 6-6 would be the peak of the curve with a sharp tail off after the peak and a slightly less sharp curve off before the peak. 8/4/2016 12:29:46 PM |

If we resemble the other Doeren teams this is how I see it shaking out:
W&M - W @ECU - L ODU - W WF - W ND - L @CLEM - L @LOU - L BC - W FSU - L @SYR - W MIA - L @UNC - L
5-7 overall.
I still feel like that's optimistic. You can say ECU is in a coaching change, etc. but it's still in Greenville and they'll be out for blood. I could see us losing to any of the ACC teams I have posted as W's for as well. WF will play tough, Syracuse is away, and BC has surprised us before.
I hope I'm wrong and Doeren and company have really turned things around. 8/4/2016 2:19:49 PM |

Agreed^. I think we a closer to losing a couple than winning a couple extra games. Although BC didnt win a game last year, they were within like 4 points in most of their games. WF and Syracuse are going to be toss ups. The teams you have us losing to are all comparatively better than us. We are clearly taking a step back this year with our new QB, so I just don't feel too optimistic.
And then of course DD is our coach. 8/4/2016 2:32:54 PM |

Ok, trying to figure out why people are already assuming we lose to ECU.
2015: ECU was 5-7. Only notable win was VT, who was playing with their back-up QB.
Offense: Starting QB transferred out. 2nd most-used QB last year was a RB/WR they were forced to play. Starting QB this year will either be a guy who missed all of last season with an injury or a Rutgers transfer. Starting RB graduated. Losing 2 of their top 4 WRs from last year, though back-ups are veterans. They lose 3 of their 5 starting OL and one starter is making the move from RT to LT.
Defense: Total Defense: Ranked 66th. (NCSU ranked 29th) Rush Defense: Ranked 69th. (NCSU ranked 39th) Pass Defense: Ranked 67th. (NCSU ranked 36th)
I mean I get it, it's ECU, they used to have a high-paced offense, but Ruffin is gone, so I imagine they'll look completely different. The only advantage they have is that it's @ECU, I believe coach will know he HAS to win 3 of the 4 OOC games because ND is going to whip us, so I imagine the guys will be ready.

we don't know that and qb is still only one position. i don't remember us being able to pass much last year so I really don't get the revisionist history that some sort of Russell Wilson just left our program.
I don't get why everyone's concern is around our offense and not our defense, which is what prevented us from being really good last year.8/4/2016 4:23:51 PM |

Defense is what worries me...we have been in games offensively but just absolutely could not stop anyone, especially the safeties and corners...They could not tackle.
We better worry about the defense...the offense has plenty of weapons. 8/4/2016 5:49:59 PM |

I'm not worried about our offense, but aside from the 2010 team (and the 2011 team when they were healthy), we've been awful on the defensive side of the ball for a while. It has gotten to the point for me at least where I just kind of assume we're gonna give up a lot of points any time we play a decent team.
I'm more focused on the offense right now just because I'm hoping our offense shows some improvement in terms of being more consistent quarter to quarter and game to game that we'll be able to outscore some of the teams on our schedule that I could conceivably see us upsetting (UNC, Miami, Louisville). 8/5/2016 9:09:26 AM |

On paper our defense should be better. We've got some talent on the DL in Street, Hill, and Roseboro. Two experienced LBs. A few pieces in the secondary.
But looking decent on paper doesn't really matter when Huxtable is still calling the plays. I have very little faith in his 2 LB scheme. We will probably be awful again. 8/5/2016 9:50:28 AM |

^ ya, it appeared to me last year we had people out of place often and the wrong scheme in place way too often. Not sure if that was a reflection of the coaching, the on field play calling or people being out of position. If we can eliminate a few knucklehead plays, we could be sooo much better. 8/5/2016 10:06:33 AM |

everything should be better overall but ^^^ is hoping we are one of the best offenses in the country which just isn't realistic. Outscoring clemson isn't realistic.
^^our defense can't really get worse. Efficiency ratings account for a fast offense. The people hating on our offense are dwelling on just 2 games. the 2 games immediately after shad was kicked off and they were played in tropical storms. 8/5/2016 10:07:55 AM |
