^^The discs will go down in price once the masses pick up a format. Just like DVD's, CD's and so on.

So making one post about the overuse of apostrophes is "a whole other level"?

Have you even bothered to read any post from gloveco™ in this thread?

Off topic posts made by him in this thread today alone: 9

Off topic posts made by me in this thread today (including this one): 3

But I'm the one taking it to a whole new level, eh?

The level I'd like to take it to is "not retarded" but it's like you fuckers keep insisting on dragging it back down again.

That is quite simply a bold faced lie. Go back and look at any post I've ever made in Tech Talk that wasn't in response to your stupidity, and see what you'll find. 90% of my posts are on topic and usually helpful. The other 10% might be silly.

You're still the problem here.

Thats your opinion. Since I long ago realized that I am intellectually superior to you in every conceivable way, I am not concerned with what you think.

You still need to be banned from posting in this section. And I need to be banned from responding to your stupidity. But when part a happens, part b won't be necessary.

that thread turned into a moderately interesting debate on PC vs Xbox gaming experience. My whole point was I got away from PC gaming so I don't have to deal with the shit you were dealing with on Vista.

^So you're saying that in a tech thread where i ask a VERY specific question about the OpenGL, and Directsound3d support in Vista, a response like:

Quote :
"I figured it out. I bought Orange Box on the 360 and it was good to go from the moment I inserted the disc."

Is a good first response?

^^its not a good response, no. But its not a troll either. Its the simple fact that PC gaming's biggest downside is issues like you were having. Hence why I'm enjoying my console gaming better now that I'm always really busy because I know when I get the game home it will work.

Just stating my frustration along with you because I was in that exact same boat not too long ago.

its 1080i and i don't think it supports hd audio but yes it will play the disks and will sell like hot cakes to people who are updating for the sake of updating and not for audio/video quality

i think i would still rather have a good up converting dvd player than a $100 hd-dvd player.

^^Alright that's fair. I usually never have issues with games. It's just since games are moving towards OpenGL some of the older games w/ directsound3d have trouble running surround sound in vista. But if you consider most people probably don't even have 5.1 surround sound with thier 360s or ps3 (atleast most people i know with them don't use surround sound) then it's a little easier/cheaper to get surround sound on a pc.

^My biggest frustration with PC gaming has always been the sound lock-up/system crash with Counter Strike: Source while playing a game. Its probably one of the biggest issues with the game.

Where is this mythical $100 HD DVD player?

Oh, there it is.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5723662

$230

It was a 1-day sale. Stop talking like that's the regular price of HD DVD now. Man, if anything, Toshiba may have fucked themselves because now that the cat's out of the bag, people may refuse to buy an HD DVD player for anything more than $100.

^using that logic. Many people will think twice before buying any hi def player more than $100. Blu Ray included. So in fact, again by your way of thinking. HD DVD stands a better chance because their players are priced far closer to the $100 mark than Blu Ray.

As they run right to the alternative of a $400 Blu-ray player?

Really?

I don't think Toshiba lost any sleep selling a shitton of HD DVD players for $100, nor do I doubt they'll do it again down the line.

^ But seriously, who wants a next-gen format HD movie player that doesn't output in 1080p? Ok ok, peopel that don't have 1080p tvs, I know. But still. Definitely a good deal for 100 bucks, damn.

All I know is that I'm going to be paying close to $100 bucks for the Die Hard set when it comes out next week. Yes, I am totally pumped for that.

When did I say they would go buy Blu-ray instead? Why do you insist on putting words in my mouth? Keep in mind that Toshiba is the one fighting the uphill battle here. Blu-ray already has the majority the studio support, CE manufacturer support, and user base. A 1-day sale isn't going to change that, regardless of how many players were sold. They need to spark a significant increase in HD DVD players and movies across the board, and I don't think the 1-day sale did that. It was essentially a non-event in this war.

I really thing that internet bandwidth and computer storage capacity might be growing fast enough to only give us a couple years or so before there is an hd version of Netflix instant view or something similar which would crush them both.

and from what i've seen from the Sony camp, their blu-ray "one-day" sale price will still be $399 on black friday

No, no, no. This is simply something that will never be accepted by the American culture. We've had a service like this for decades. Anyone with a TimeWarner digital box has it, and for as cheap as it is, hardly anyone uses it. It's called Pay-per-view.

In order to convince John Q Public to pay $20 for a movie he's usually already seen, you're going to have to hand him something he can hold.

Because the only thing that "fucks" Toshiba is people buying Blu-ray drives. Consumer apathy doesn't fuck anyone over right now, because that's all there is. People waiting around for a price drop on HD DVD means there's interest in HD DVD and Toshiba has already shown that they're more than willing to go to bargain basement player pricing to get them into homes.

Sony, meanwhile, has shown that their so desperate to boost sales of the Playstation 3 that they won't make any Blu-ray player priced under the cheapest PS3. It's absolutely laughable, because if Sony and the numerous other companies that can make Blu-ray drives said "hey, $100 Blu-ray player", this war would be over.

You're the poorest kid I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. I remember back in the day when you tried asking this Don character to buy you a car because he was a family friend or some shit. How'd that work out for you? We all know you can't afford an audi on minimum wage at the movie theater.

and the only one that is "fucking fail so hard" is you. You are on so many anti-depressant meds that without them you would have committed suicide a long time ago. Maybe you should go ahead and do that save yourself the misery of living your life one more year.
