They've already justified an insurrection because Democrats are trying to destroy the country. Now they're working their way towards it's ok to murder Democrats because they're trying to kill you.

MTG doubling down:

Quote :
"Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star.

Vaccine passports & mask mandates create discrimination against unvaxxed people who trust their immune systems to a virus that is 99% survivable."

Her apology:

Quote :
"The media and Democrats and everyone feeding into it is allowing them to hide the truth, which is the disgusting anti-Semitism within the Democrat Party.

At a time when the Socialist Democrats and the Jihad Squad are supporting terrorist Hamas, and their supporters are attacking Jewish people on the streets of America, it's never been more important than now to stand up against forced vaccination and mask mandates that the left is using to discriminate against Americans who refuse to comply.

Their attempts to shame, ostracize, and brand Americans who choose not to get vaccinated or wear a mask are reminiscent of the great tyrants of history who did the same to those who would not comply.

And everyone feeding into it is allowing them to hide the truth, which is the disgusting anti-Semitism within the Democrat Party.

The Democrats are the party of division, hate, critical race theory (pure racism), discrimination, totalitarianism, socialism, globalism, gender destruction, BDS, defunding our police, and ANTIFA/BLM terrorists.

I'm sorry some of my words make people uncomfortable, but this is what the American left is all about.

And they are America last in every single way."

And McCarthy's rebuke:

Quote :
"At a time when the Jewish people face increased violence and threats, anti-Semitism is on the rise in the Democrat Party and is completely ignored by Speaker Nancy Pelosi."

This has never been important at all, though. This is sort of like multiplying by zero.

That's true. It just struck me as stupid, whereas most of the rest of the rant is clearly insane and requires no response.

This gets me every time. It's like the only options they see are death or being asymptomatic. There are some pretty fucking horrible Covid outcomes out there that don't include death.

330,000,000 x 1% death rate = 3,300,000 dead Americans, and many more with permanently altered lives who will become a drain on the healthcare system. Who wouldn't be OK with this outcome?!

This is a mind-blowing display of cowardice and putting self-interest over national interest.

Manchin and Sinema blocked this as much as any republican. Those two are going to help usher us into permanent minority rule.

It's not hard to imagine losing one senate seat and a bunch of house seats (through additional gerrymandering during redistricting) then losing the presidency in 2024 bc nothing got done after the first few months pandemic bills.

Sure but he also most likely knew, or now knows anyway, that it won't pass without eliminating the filibuster. Nothing much that matters will. Cant do election reform in budget reconciliation.

The real question for gop cred, would the 4 gop senators vote for this if the vote had a chance of passing.

6 Republican senators voted for it. Are you not counting those retiring?

What are the key positives that politicians derive from party loyalty?

No I just didn't do my homework, I assumed all Dem senators voted for this and thought I saw that it was 54-35. Were Sinema and Murray out of town or did they not vote for a political reason?

I assume Kyrsten Sinema skipped for political reasons.

My question above is a serious question about why there is so much pressure and apparent sway to hold party lines on votes. Are most of these people (our illustrious elected officials) just chicken shits or what? Why is it so hard to do what's obviously correct in cases like this? I know there will be some issues where there could be legitimate policy disagreement, but this is pure CYA petty BS. Do they think this is in service to the nation?

As a citizen, it just puzzles me why it's so hard to rise to the moment and do what's right. They've already made it in life.

Yea i guess it's the fear of primaries or the eagerness to appeal to the Trump's base do future aspirations

In a way I wish the dem party was as scared of their base

I think that it's a political calculation driven by party leadership and influenced by the party base.

If you don't tow the party line and consequently upset the party base, you are more likely to face a primary challenger. If you lose your primary, your primary challenger is less likely to win reelection in the general election, costing the party a seat.

Granted, that's applicable to candidates in purple states. In red states, you probably agree with the entire party platform, because you live in an echo chamber, along with all of your constituents.

I feel like a good chunk of these Republican senators have been around too long to attribute any "they're just fooled by fox News" stuff, these guys run in different circles from their voters. I think that "they're dumb" is also a kinder assessment in many ways from the reality, IMO, that they are almost all coldly calculating ways to stay in the limelight and get paid.

I think that it depends on the Congress member. I feel like Senator John Kennedy is intelligent and just plays to his base, but I think that Senator Tommy Tuberville is as dumb as a brick.

The Republican Party's actions to date make it seem like they are screwed in 2024. So is the country, though.

Thanks, Obama!

With a shrinking party I could see a scenario where a lot of Trumpers win GOP primaries in '22, then get their clocks cleaned in the general election, leading to a pivot back to policy over personality by 2024.

Or President Carlson in 2024. I have no idea, really.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/02/trump-blog-page-shuts-down-for-good.html

It's very hard to tell what's going on when Trump looks as if he's trying to gaslight himself. He does seem unwell. Given his poor health and battle with COVID, I think the GOP is mostly trying to use him as a way to bilk its dumbest members dry. Whether people like Biden or not, the vaccine rollout has been a measured success, and it's hard for the GOP to attack it since they're doubling down on the anti-vaxx message which is full of contradictions: he wants all the credit for a vaccine that his dumbest supporters refuse to take?

The optimist in me says he's completely lost his mind and the walls are caving in-- especially with the SDNY case, which the media has been eerily quiet about, lately.

The pessimist in me says he's using that money to stage another insurrection/coup, and that's going to be really awful for our country/democracy.

There’s emails out now from mark meadows to doj the days before and of the January 6th attack and they were pushing the doj hard to declare the election illegal, basically trying to get the Supreme Court to throw out votes.

Completely beyond corrupt, kind of amazing to me meadows isn’t in jail right now. The doj held the line, but i can’t imagine the chaos if they had made a public statement. I don’t think ppl realize how close we were to some really nutty actions.
