Basically no chance we face brazil now. Thet have goal differential advantage over Peru if they draw and I don't think Ecuador can score enough to pass them. If brazil somehow loses (unlikely), then Ecuador and Peru will advance. its looking likely to be Ecuador for us either way, we beat them in a recent friendly, but they'll be a tough out even if it's an easier path than facing Brazil.

^Yup. It will be nice to have a decided home field advantage in this tournament, especially in the knockout stage.

The bracket design layout is pretty terrible, but whatever.

*If Peru can upset Colombia, this could be a special tournament for Klinsy. Even if they don't a potential 3rd/4th place matchup against El Tri is a possibility in Arizona. Assuming of course the boys take care of business in Seattle.

I just remember when we lucked out and won our group in 2010 WC and were so happy to avoid Germany and get Ghana instead, only to then lose to Ghana. Ecuador is better than Ghana, and no easy win. The team we beat on a late goal in a friendly is not the same team we are going to face on Thursday. They looked really dangerous against Haiti, though Haiti made everyone look great with their disorganized back line.

I'm not overlooking Ecuador (not that it matters if I were, as I'm not playing in the game....knee injuries)

Still, I'll take the US in Seattle.

Given our track record, I'd rather go down swinging against a major power than have a frustrating loss to someone we could beat. It's not like we stand any chance of winning the thing.

Looks like that ESPN bracket I posted earlier was shite. They finally updated it with the correct layout. Soooo, the US will face Argentina if they advance, not the Col/Peru winner.

Not that it will change because of the new rules but the US is appealing Jones' red. And it's absurd that the game was even being played while Wood got his yellow since Jones was still on field but that doesn't matter.

Struggling to think of a better tournament performance for any USMNT player than what we have seen from Brooks. Or of a better defender we've had as a country. He has always been a top half Bundesliga defender but he looks ready for a major jump. His profile has Dortmund written all over it with Hummels leaving though I doubt that's even a rumor.

Only the 3rd knockout round win in the last 100 years against a non-CONCACAF team.

98 Gold Cup SF vs Brazil and 09 Confed Cup SF vs Spain are the other two.

Fox Sports says the replay they've seen clearly shows Jones hitting the player with a closed fist. That shit isn't getting overturned.

Great win, too bad Jones and Wood couldn't keep their cool. Wood has been playing really well so him being out is going to hurt the worst.

don't think that he is quite at Dortmund level yet.

Honestly, not so upset that Bedoya and Jones miss the game. They've played really well, but they aren't the future of the USMNT. Get Pulisic and Nagbe a chance for experience against the world's best in a high stakes game -- that can pay dividends down the road. I would prefer to have Bobby Wood, his first yellow against Paraguay was really unnecessary.

Of course, I say all of this and then Klinsmann starts Beckerman and Zusi...

^^ Think he needs to start Beckerman for some more defensive presence. Fuck a damn Zusi though.

I didn't realize Besler would be able to fill in at LB so well. I'd keep him there, play Yedlin at RB and move Fabian Johnson to LM. He's a huge upgrade there over Bedoya.

That's not a terrible lineup...

-----------Dempsey----------------
FJ----------Nagbe-----------Zardes
-----Bradley--Beckerman--------
Besler--Brooks--Cameron--Yedlin
