He’s not wrong. Those are valid points. But 1) the defense was fine even with injuries and 2) criticizing the offense and lack of output is still very valid.

Also kinda reads to me like DD is aware this is more of a rebuild year than we were maybe hoping at the outset

I don't know that the defense was "fine". They were gashing us there at the end and would have won if not for some incredibly dumb decisions by the QB and head coach. Our defense was biting hard on play action as well as all the screens. Not a lot of high football IQ currently on that defense. Our defensive line is fine, but the LB/DB leaves a lot to be desired.

Defense was fine in the sense that they played well enough for us to win. They gave the offense multiple chances to put the game out of reach, including 2 fourth quarter turnovers. It’s 2023, if your defense holds a team to 21 points you should win like 98% of the time. The offense has to score more. Can’t ask the defense to save our ass every time. They aren’t good enough to constantly bail out this ugly offense.

Defense is obviously worse than last year. That goes without saying. But last night was almost entirely on the offenses inability to do anything

Hope we see some significant roster overhaul this off-season. Too many guys that are not ACC level are being asked to be major contributors. Demarcus Jones and Delbert Mimms aren’t P5 level players. LeSane is not. I’m can’t pretend to be an evaluator of OL talent but the sheer number of false starts seems bad!

I’m guessing some of the dead weight on the roster is due to the Covid year. I know we’re just a middle of the road ACC team, so we’re not able to constantly reload and we’ll have recruiting misses. That’s part of life in the position we’re in. But the good thing is the portal allows you to quickly address those needs.

Good post. I have not been too impressed with the new o coordinator but it may be that we just don’t have any talent on offense besides Concepcion. Seems like we must have recruited poorly for several years in a row on that side of the ball. I know I couldn’t believe we only had I think one receiver in this years class as bad as receiver was last year.

We could lose out the season and get outscored 493-0, but he’d still get at least another year or two or three. He’s probably gonna retire within the next 3-5 years anyway…Gibson may be sticking around for a transition to HC once Dave rides off into the sunset

The odds reflect my opinion that regardless of what happens the rest of the season I think Doeren will be coaching NC State in 2024.
