Pulisic looks good. Really good. Skilled and always around the ball, but level-headed.

Also, Sacha Kljestan looked more impressive in 20 minutes than any of the midfielders (not named Pulisic). I don't follow soccer that closely, but why isn't he playing over guys like Beckerman, Zusi, etc? My soccer friends pretty much universally love the guy. Looks to be an elite passer, creator, etc

Beckerman is a defensive midfielder and Zusi is a winger (a shit one). Totally different positions than Kljestan.

Kljestan doesn't play much because he isn't as good defensively as Jones and Bradley and for whatever reason, JK rarely plays a true AM. It's either 2 box to box mids like JJ and MB or one of them plus a def mid like Beckerman or Cameron. And if we're playing Dempsey, he usually occupies that position where a Kljestan typically would be. I also think Kljestan usually looks poor for the US but he has been playing well in MLS lately.

Pulisic is the truth.

Kljestan played well. Mostly because Klinsi played him as a true AM so he's proving he's more flexible than people (including me) give him credit for. Still think long-term that's a position suited for Nagbe but he's not getting JK love for whatever reason.

Morris is a helluva second half sub to bring on. This is easily the deepest we've been at forward and attacking positions in a long time: Jozy, Dempsey, Wood, and Morris are all legit threats. You could probably add Pulisic in there too. Love the way he picks his head up and goes at defenders.

I know that's the talking point post game but I thought Omar/Brooks had decent games and Besler had a few bad fouls but he wasn't awful.

The problem was Jones/Bradley giving Mexico too much space and that would've happened in a 4-4-2 imo. The bottom line is our midfield just isn't good enough defensively.

^Yeah, but they kept attacking down the left and no one was really there to stop them at first. Then when they went with 4 across the back everyone seemed to calm down and play better. No one seemed quite sure what to do when playing in a 3-5-2.

it wasn't the ideal formation to start with, I agree. Not making excuses for JK but Osorio has been playing with 3 at the back for Mexico for a while and I think the plan was to negate the wing play of Vela/Gio and instead Mexico went right down the middle where Jones and Bradley left gaps. I'll probably re-watch but I didn't feel like they were going down the left - it was 5-10 yards of space whenever they got the ball in the middle of the field and had time to pick out a pass.

The issue has been and always will be Jones/Bradley are not a good pairing. I personally think it's because MB is mediocre both ways. Give him the offensive reigns and he spends most of the game passing sideways and backwards. Give him the defensive responsibility and he looks tentative and weak in challenges and lost in spacing issues. I'll admit I'm a JJ fanboy and he definitely makes mistakes but he runs his ass off and gets into challenges 10x that of MB or any other CM we have on our roster right now.

Fabian Johnson had one of his worst games in the US shirt aside from his effort on clearing out that dangerous cross in the 2nd half because he isn't used to that position. That's definitely 100% on JK for not putting him in a position to use his strengths. But Pulisic is the guy at LM now so I'm not sure where you play him. I do think he actually plays behind the forwards for his club, maybe we try him at AM?

I wouldn't mind seeing him go, but the future is bright. We have 2 of the 3 toughest games in the hex out of the way and the playoff this time is CONCACAF 4 vs AFC 5. Had the schedule been different we could have easily walked through qualifying and lost our last 2 games to Mexico and Costa Rica. At that point everyone would say, "OMG! WE'RE SCREWED! WE JUST LOST OUR LAST 2 QUALIFIERS!"

Everybody harps on his tactics, which are sometimes head scratchers, but to me, a national team coach has to get the right players on the roster and on the field, first and foremost. JK is showing me right now that he just can't do that. He's gotta go.
