You do have to give him credit for not shooting her, that would have played differently with a lot of the cops from other SWAT stories
(of course that in no way makes this less tragic, and in no way diminishes the problem in general or in this case specifically; just acknowledging that in other stories with other cops that lady is dead.) 7/21/2013 9:28:47 PM |

The employer that recently fired the husband kept search records at work. Apparently he was disgruntled and they called the cops.

60 year old man is looking for cigarettes in his car in his own driveway and gets shot at by the police. They fired 15 bullets at him.

Anyone have any knowledge of, experience with, COPDOTS?
http://www.copdots.com/Default.aspx
Apparently CMPD plans to use them as a crime fighting tool, although the article doesn't provide any specifics. http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/cmpd-introduces-cop-dot-pens-help-fight-crime/nZGT5/
More evidence of a police state, or simply an effective crime fighting tool to be used by the individual? 8/21/2013 9:14:08 AM |

That incident could have been entirely avoided if they had more accurate bomb residue testing. Apparently some over-the-counter bedbug powder triggered it? That's some bullshit. Of course the conditions of the ensuing detainment were also bullshit. 8/22/2013 7:54:49 PM |

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2013/08/19/police-now-can-switch-off-iphone-camera-and-wi-fi/
Police throughout the globe have been embarrassed to see online videos of their officers pepper spraying tied captives. In our age of mobile gadgets the pictures can be uploaded online in seconds, making supervisors to answer the questions.
But now the police may not need to fear scrutiny anymore, because Apple has recently patented a piece of technology that would allow the authorities and police to block data transmission, including video and photos, whenever they like. All they need to do is decide that a public gathering or venue is deemed “sensitive” and needs to be protected from externalities. In this case Apple will enable them to switch off all its gear. The developers insist that the affected locations are normally cinemas, theaters and concert grounds, but Apple admits it could also be used in covert police or government operations that may need complete “blackout” conditions. 8/23/2013 10:18:22 AM |

"Everyone thinks they're a fucking lawyer and they don't know jack shit"
The biggest race issue we have in this country is the 5-0. If these guys were white they would have never been targeted. The police in this country have gotten out of hand. It's way too common seeing these videos nowadays.
This guy has no criminal record of drugs, the cop asks him what he does. He says serving at a country club, cop says, "serving what, weed?".

My point is that this is like assuming a product is shit because of a few amazon reviews when the millions of other users don't bother to post good reviews.
Even several videos of cops doing shady shit shouldn't be compelling. This is confirmation bias 101.

Definitely a band of brothers mentality. But that goes without saying.
I have nothing against the police or the military. However, when someone starts passing judgement upon others and abuse authority for their own entertainment, they have stepped over the line of respect and fallen into a territory that I detest. 10/3/2013 11:08:32 PM |

It really boils down to a lack of training; when I worked patrol, I would be forced to take tons of dog calls. I was not trained to handle dogs, nor did I have any equipment to handle dogs and the madness that ensued could fill an entire thread. 10/27/2013 12:41:10 PM |
