You will have to pay about $30(?) to get a loaner iPhone while your current one is out for repairs. I am assuming it's been more than 2 weeks since you bought yours. 8/29/2007 1:35:11 PM |

yes its been about a month. How long is the warranty?
I was just checking the iSkin Revo. I might just have to get that...looks great and seems to protect every part of the iphone very well.

If you're getting a case just to project the screen, it's useless. The screen is made of high quality optic glass and you have to try hard with sandpaper to scratch it.
^ Warranty is a year, and standard phone support is free for 2 years. After 14 days of purchase, though, you will need to send it in for warranty repairs. No in-store replacement.

getting it for the body...mainly the back and sides so they don't get scratched up. When it comes time for a new iphone i want this one to be still looking brand new when i give it to one of my friends.
ok so i went in the store and they said to call up apple and they send me a new one and put the old one in the box...is that just sales man talk for i don't want to help you? Cause he wasn't very clear on if the new one is a loaner or a replacement.

Depends. If it's really fucked, they'll send you a new one, else repair yours. But, you'll have to pay for a loaner if you want something to talk with in the meantime.

here we go again. First it is a quality phone second GSM >>> CDMA I like being able to switch phones on the fly, transfer my contacts to my PC via bluetooth. Being able to go out of the country (which i do frequently) and take my phone with me...and then selling it there and buying something else that you can't find in the US.
I have no reception problems any where I go in the US with GSM except at a lake i went to 2 weeks ago but even the verizon and sprint users with us had no reception.

i guess it depends on which aspect you're comparing...if you're referring to actual technology, CDMA is much more advanced than GSM...if you're talking about clicks at the beginning of your phone call, well then i suppose GSM has CDMA beat hands-down...conforming to same inferior technology as the rest of the world does not make the technology BETTER...good try, though
Quote : | "I like being able to switch phones on the fly, transfer my contacts to my PC via bluetooth." |
what about R-UIM? and just because SOME carriers and SOME phones don't support that ability, doesn't mean all don't...every phone i've had for the past 4 years has allowed me to use a R-UIM AND transfer (including files) via bluetooth...what does that have to do with GSM?
Quote : | "Being able to go out of the country (which i do frequently)" |
do you REALLY think YOU are a fair representation of the majority of cell phone users in the US? come on, kid
Quote : | "You have been ranting about GSM and raving about some CDMA shit since ever. Good luck traveling out of this country.

absolutely...CDMA has always been superior to GSM in terms of technology, and though i'm quite sure it will lose out in the long run, the fact that it's technologically better hasn't changed
additionally, i have never ever EVER traveled to a place in the united states that i haven't been able to get a signal, even if it's analog...and i can't help but think that i'd rather have analog service on my pocket pc than no service whatsoever on my iphone
it doesn't need to be an argument about GSM vs. CDMA...i'm quite sure you can't provide even 5 reasons GSM is technologically superior, so it wouldn't be much of a discussion anyway...as for the iphone, there are several other units out there, for both GSM and CDMA carriers that do the same (and more) for less than the cost of the iphone, so i can't really come up with any ways the iphone is superior, other than it might be "pretty"8/29/2007 4:35:34 PM |

iphone noob question:
you can use ipod charges/docks for the iphone right?...or does it have to be made specifically for the iphone? are all the chargers/accessories good for either device?
any particular manufacturers to stick with when buying ipod/iphone accessories (griffen, belkin etc)? 8/29/2007 4:56:28 PM |
esgargs Suspended 97470 Posts user info edit post |
ok kid
Five Reasons why GSM is better than CDMA:
1. CDMA is proprietary. GSM is an open standards. Open means more innovation. 2. CDMA chips are mostly manufactured by ONE company. Others have to license the technology for $$$, which is why they're expensive and less innovative. 3. CDMA phones are tied to a single carrier. GSM phones have a SIM card which could be used by anyone for any carrier. 4. GSM has a better sound quality. CDMA's call quality depends on network utilization. 5. A GSM network is in the technical sense, more intelligent than a CDMA network. GSM provides for far more efficient handshaking processes. 6. GSM's global customer base is more than 10 times that of CDMA. You're better off arguing whether Betamax was better than VHS. 7. GSM phones have higher talk times and smaller antennas.
I have traveled a lot inside US, and never had bad experiences with GSM service. Surely, something must be going in my favor. 8/29/2007 5:02:49 PM |

Yes, you can, but some people have had problems getting their iPod accessories to work. I'd say refrain from using too many 3rd party accessories until they're "ok'ed" by Apple. As for brands, my personal favorite is Griffin.

I mean it's pretty funny when he argues about technical advantages and yet thinks that there's some analog version of CDMA out there. There is no such thing as analog CDMA. It's a digital technology. The analog signal is from the older AMPS deployment that even Cingular/ATT has had in place since eternity as well.
If you're getting an analog signal, it means you AREN'T getting CDMA coverage. Think again a few times the next time you want to get technical about something you know nothing about. 8/29/2007 11:47:10 PM |

what do you guys think of call quality on this thing? i know at&t, given that its an all digital network, is more prone to dropped calls than verizon/sprint etc, but it seems like i'm dropping more calls with this iphone than i did with my old phones (almost all sony ericssons) on the exact same network. my call will drop, then 2 seconds later BAM I have 4-5 bars. shits annoying....starting to remind me of the old days with bellsouth/cingular. 9/3/2007 5:44:28 PM |
