I did some digging around and found out that the halogens are cornering lights, they come on when you make turns apparently. The high beams are provided by the HIDs.

About to do my first oil change on the E90 ('09).

Must I invest in one of those official kits, or will the manual-recommended Valvoline Synthetic and the K&N filter (which does have the gaskets) be sufficient?

I ask because the kit costs basically twice as much. If it's really a measurable difference then what's the best source for buying a kit?

I've had so many cars fucked up royally by crappy garages...

my jeep's flywheel shook the whole damn tranny apart after having someone put a clutch in it.

my wife's car someone ground the pilot off the input shaft for the tranny because they couldn't get it aligned right (needless to say the clutch felt like shit and never felt completely engaged.

and i have a friend who had her 328's oil changed and... opps they forgot to put oil back in it.... at the friggin dealer... on the 2nd ever oil change.

and since the engine still ran they didn't even replace it.

Wyloch After how many miles are you changing your oil. Its been 7 months and 6k miles since I changed mine. The recommended is every 15k miles. which I think is too high.

the jetta TDI that it replaced got an oil change every 10k.

Convince me why changing oil more frequently than mfr recommendations is a good idea (for normal driving).

BMW's intervals have been 15k for years now. I honestly don't understand why anyone would change out their oil before that (especially only 1/2 way along) unless they are tracking their vehicle.

I always do around 7-10k interval. Car just starts feeling slugish and "tired". It is not really sludge formation, but if you look at these pictures it is rather convincing to change oil earlier. BMWs lifetime fluids such as manual and auto tranny fluids are also another one that I totally don't believe.

Also, my SA suggested that my car (09 e93 335i) needs a valve cleaning based on mileage. Apparently they connect a hose to the intake manifold and clean the valves out using some sort of spray. He quoted me 249 for teh job as it is not covered under warranty. Has anyone on here got this done?

He also suggested - Power steering fluid change at 30k miles, $249 Differential fluid change $249

I've never seen such a complicated device that replaces something so simple. Motorized parking brakes have to be one of the most retarded things ever. And it's not hating on BMW. I'm hating on everyone that does it.

I don't own a BMW so I can't really comment on your fluid changes. However the S2000's manual calls for replacing the rear diff fluid every 30k as well.

Car's have been using electronic and hydraulic actuated parking brakes for years now. Hell, BMW had an electronic parking brake over 10 years ago that used small plastic gears that were prone to strip.
