^^ I like this time a lot and hope they blow GT on the road but bear in mind that this team was down by 15 to Pittsburgh at one point in the game. Just let that settle in.

You’re right. Can’t take anything for granted. Just saying that we *should* handle GT.

To be perfectly honest, we *should* win the last four games. Way too much nc state shit can happen in two weeks though...

I have an unexplained confidence in this team, and it feels really good. I don't have any predictions about winning out, but I half-assedly paid attention to yesterday's game; that's how confident I was that we had it. If we could only play some damned defense, we'd be pretty deadly.

Its prolly because this team is the first team in a long time that has bucked typical "NC State shit" trends. We won after beating Duke. We won after beating UNC. We've won 4 out of our last 5 acc road games. We've taken victory from the hands of defeat multiple times this year instead of the other way around like it usually is.

Whats funny is we seem to play better down the stretch of games when its close/we're losing than we do when we're ahead by a good margin.

I said this before, but the @GT game isn't a NC State shit loss, it's a loss that every mediocre team picks up. The NC State shit move would be to lose to BC on Tuesday and then turn that into a 3 game losing streak, knocking us off the bubble.

I think the biggest thing about beating GT would be keeping them off of our "bad loss" line of the resume.

Currently we have 2 bad losses in UNCG and UNI. If UNCG makes the tourney, as expected, then we really only had 1 bad loss and it was early in the year at a neutral site as part of a tournament, it's easy to let that one slide.

I will say, winning 5 of the last 6 games on the road in the ACC would be a pretty damn impressive mark for us, regardless of who we played, esp given we only won 4 ACC games total last year.

I don't see us going 4-0, we've been shooting it pretty well from 3 in our last couple of games, I just can't see us not having a cold night. Just need to go at least 2-2 to close it out.

I mean it's easy to point that UL, FSU, and BC have been a struggling a bit lately, and we're at home, but all 3 of those teams have played well at times this year. UL is loaded with talent, FSU is super athletic, and we can't forget that BC always gives us issues, even when they're historically awful.

This is a great observation, and I dont think this is a fluke. KK's system is to press and keep the tempo high so the team can win games in the final five minutes, when the other team is gassed. Even though we are not as talented as most teams in the conference, we are better conditioned and use a deep bench. It's a great thing to behold, and a huge departure from any system I've ever seen at State.

I would not describe a team with 9 healthy scholarship players as having a deep bench.

As long as they actually play (Batts), 9 is decently deep for ACC play. We don't have a single player in top 15 of minutes per game even with Markell missing 4 games.

^^^ Loosk like the win v Duke is going to go a long way if it comes down to tiebreakers, as long as it isn't a two team tiebreak between us and VT.

It's not just about availability of players, but also if the players are being used. Duke has the deepest bench in the country, but K insists on playing 6-7 guys. In fact, most teams try to reduce their rotation to 7-8 guys around this time of the season. If we had 10 guys to play, I am sure KK would.

^was that, "I love this, man" meaning you love the Wolfpack Hustle series or was it "I love this man" meaning you love a specific man? (presumably Keatts or maybe Markell b/c he's featured in this one)

It's both for me, I think "Wolfpack Hustle" is really well done and I'm also firmly aboard the Kevin Keatts Hype Train.

REally need to be in the 4/5 seed range for the ACC tourney.

Looks like the BC/Gtech winner if we are 5 then Clemson, or if a 4 we have a double bye.

Which I think is BS and ESPN being ESPN.

Should have a 10 seed by now.

Teams like Oklahoma really piss me off with their ESPN hype.

I normally respect Joe Lunardi as he knows a heck of a lot more than me both analytically and historically when it comes to seeding, but this whole quadrant thing seems flawed. How does the SEC have such highly ranked teams even though they don’t pass the eye test? He currently has us seeded in a 6/11 matchup against a Texas A&M squad that is 17-10 and 9th in the SEC. We are the 11 seed by the way.

Thats my question.

The SEC and Big 10 are obviously GARBAGE conferences, yet they think they are so deep.

Yet NCSU is in the top half of the ACC and gets no love.

Also, Xavier as a one seed? cmon.

I cant understand the Oklahoma hype, even with Young. He's been really really bad lately.

10 ACC teams projected to go dancing, 8 SEC. State is #7 in ACC standings, TAMU #9 in SEC. I agree it doesn't make sense.

But TAMU is #24 RPI while State is #62. TAMU sos #7, State #70. And here's the biggest difference: TAMU went 11-2 against the #17 non-conference sos, while State went 10-3 against #282.

Yes State should be higher than 11, but it's not like TAMU is ranked highly without reason.

Half a game behind Clemson in ACC standings. We both play FSU and GT, they also have VT and Cuse while we have Louisville.

To finish top 4 in the ACC would be unbelievable. Hell, we're only 1 game behind UNC and 1.5 back of Duke, and they have to play each other one more time. Who knows...

non conference sos is a joke. it takes the worst 9 teams we play and ranks us 40 spots lower in rpi than a team who played only 6 shitty teams.

even our impressive wins don't overcome those 3 extra shitty games. its ridiculous. no one would look at our schedule next to tamu's and say its so shitty.

yeah, it's extremely stupid, which is why you just shouldn't schedule jacksonville and bryant and presbyterian in the first place. if you want to schedule wins so your wikipedia page looks good just call up some DivIIs, they dont count

With that said, if someone made me bet on what seed we end up with I'd say a 10. I think we're safely in as of right now. Though, we should be, and it shouldn't really be a conversation. This has easily been the second best season we've had in the last 10 years, only behind the Lacey year. We should be in the 6-7 seed conversation with the wins we have, not kvetching over how stupid the RPI is

if we finish strong, especially if we can beat another top 25 team in the ACCT -then the committee will respect the big wins that we've had. we'll be seated better than the pundits are ranking us, its not surprising that none of them are willing to stick their necks out for us after our recent seasons

After tonight's win I'm feeling good on selection Sunday as long as no teams who haven't sealed up an at-large bid win their conference tournament. Maybe we can get lucky though and win the ACC Tournament and have no worries.

they haven't "shipped teams" for years now. With pods, they put lots of teams close to homes to sell more tickets. is that over?

Still better than top 50/100/whatever. Either way it's still just an arbitrary cutoff so if a team you lost to moves up it down a single spot it could change how many good wins/bad losses you have.

If we win out
AND
Clemson and UNC each lose one
AND
Duke loses 2...

There will be a 4-way-tie for the 2 seed. Here's the tie-breaking procedure...if someone wants to figure out what it means for us please do by all means. If VT were tied with this group too they would get the 2 seed by default by being the only one to beat UVA. But since they aren't, the rest of the process takes more time to research.

Quote :
"If the tied teams played each other twice in the regular season and split their games, then each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings (or in case of a tie for first place, the next highest position in the regular season standings) and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

b. When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against a team or group is unequal. (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4). If the winning percentage of the tied teams is equal against a team, or a group of tied teams, continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage."
