Yea, good articles. Points out exactly what I've been saying. The Newsweek article is a bunch of profoundly dumb reasons tacked onto a "smoking gun."
Quote : | "And then there's the smoking gun — the quote that he gave to Goodman when she arrived at his doorstep. " |
I had forgotten: Goodman used double spaces in the Bitcoin white paper as evidence (half the people I know do this) but didn't consider Dorian's broken English whatsoever. Big fucking facepalm.3/10/2014 12:37:54 PM |

"After being contacted by a reporter, my son called me and used the word, which I had never before heard.
"Shortly thereafter, the reporter confronted me at my home. I called the police. I never consented to speak with the reporter. In an ensuing discussion with a reporter from the Associated Press, I called the technology 'bitcom'. I was still unfamiliar with the term."" |

In order to still believe the Newsweek story, you need to think this guy hatched a brilliant plan to protect his identity by acting like a clueless old man and calling Bitcoin "bitcom."
And simultaneously you have to believe, during the execution of his brilliant plan, he goofed and unambiguously confessed to his involvement in Bitcoin.

^This is going to end up in court. A US federal judge already declared it a currency. I can understand the IRS wanting to claim it for tax purposes, but I dont see why it cant be valued as a currency. They are more likely to get more out of it if they do.
Whos to not claim that they lost money mining the coins vs when they cashed out. Then its a tax break for them. That and try to make all these exchanges actually submit tax documents, along with all the offshore banks to follow US regulations. 3/25/2014 8:57:00 PM |

i wonder how they're going to value it. Clearly the exchanges are sketchy, how are they going to know which are good enough to determine a value? 3/27/2014 8:58:59 PM |

There are lots of online merchants accepting them through Coinbase: TigerDirect, Dell and Expedia. The problems attaining them still exist and it doesn't offer anything over credit card if you are buying something from a reputable online merchant and is arguably worse experience if you have to buy the bitcoin and then use them.
If you are buying drugs online or donating to something like Wikileaks then it's still strong there. 8/18/2014 5:29:21 PM |

Quote : | "But all that borrowing hasn't paid off now that Bitcoin prices are free falling. In fact, it's part of the reason that they're doing so. Bitcoin prices are so low, you see, that miners are spending more money running their supercomputers than they're making from new coins. So why are they still going? Well, they have dollar debts that they need to pay back, and where else are they going to get the money? They're stuck, in other words, in a catch-22: they can't afford to keep mining, but they can't afford to stop mining, either. (This, coincidentally, is the same dilemma that oil drillers who borrowed a lot during the boom face now during the bust). This has already forced one big mining group into default. And it's forced the rest to sell the only assets they have—Bitcoins—to pay back their dollar debts. That, of course, only pushes the price of Bitcoin down even further, which makes even more miners sell their Bitcoins to pay back they owe as mining becomes more unprofitable. And so on, and so on.
Bitcoin, in other words, is suffering a deleveraging shock like the one that our economy in 2008, but without a Federal Reserve to cushion the blow. That means this doom loop of debt and Bitcoin deflation could take prices down a lot further still." | I mean Bitcoin will rise in value over the long run but this is the greatest volatility I've ever seen.1/15/2015 7:34:03 AM |

He duped several news organizations and even Gavin Andresen, one of the core developers.
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/4hfyyo/gavin_can_you_please_detail_all_parts_of_the/d2plygg
Turns out Wright gave demonstrations on his own computer. Long story short, he took an early transaction off the block chain and tried to make it seem like he was able to sign an arbitrary message (spoilers: he wasn't, but on his own machine he can make it look like anything). Andresen "verified" this signature, but he didn't have access to the original message. Most likely just a hash, which he assumed was a hash of his message, but was really just junk bytes from the old transaction.
