I kinda understood him transferring, but never faulted TOB for it.
Then I started disliking him more and more after he got to the NFL and started talking more and his off-field drama. After this, screw this weirdo. 5/16/2016 10:09:36 AM |

^^I don't know if we'll ever know for sure, but yeah, supposedly he told him since he wasn't attending spring/summer(?) practice, he wasn't the guaranteed starter and would have to compete for the position.

was just listening to David Glenn, he keeps repeating that TOB did tell RW that he wasn't on the team anymore...
and i heard RW doing his southern accent. that was horrible. what a douche. 5/16/2016 12:58:56 PM |

^well i don't necessarily doubt that TOB essentially gave RW an ultimatum about quitting baseball. The stupid part is that Wilson glosses over that he had a choice in the matter and chose baseball. Again, RW participated in senior day at State and it was never assumed that he was definitely coming back. 5/16/2016 1:01:38 PM |

I'm avoiding David Glenn like the plague today, dude feasts on stories like this. I'm sure he, Hayes Permar, the lovely and talented Maria are all in agreement, that even though the lunatic fringe NC State crowd is going to throw Russell Wilson, the same Russell Wilson who lead the NC State Wolfpack, which is within the reach of our radio audience in our own backyard of Raleigh in the great state of North Carolina, to be on the verge of an ACC title game, picking up accolades and setting Wolfpack quarterback records that even the likes of Philip Rivers and Roman Gabriel, amongst others, have not achieved, under the bus for trying to pursue his dreams of playing professional baseball, I can guarantee you there was more going on behind the scenes and there is more to this story than anyone in this listening audience or members of his editorial staff at the ACC Journal or accjournal.com realize. 5/16/2016 1:07:14 PM |

Well, he was being pretty fair to TOB for the most part except for repeating the line that TOB told him he wasn't on the team anymore. In the short time I listened, he did comment on the southern accent and how TOB doesn't have a southern accent, and he did mention that several of the stats he threw out didn't seem to be accurate, and that a lot of the shots he took weren't necessary. 5/16/2016 1:37:49 PM |

He was their guy for one year. I don't understand why he's a big deal to them. Rivers spoke at a NCSU graduation a few years ago and it meant much more. But maybe it doesn't matter since there weren't many students at either who had been there when those QBs played. It's more about their NFL legacies now.5/16/2016 2:50:39 PM |

I'm still neutral on the situation. Wilson legitimately seemed like he loved NC State, and he still seems butthurt over not playing here his senior year. I don't know the scope of the entire situation, but he sure does give the impression of being a drama queen. Mike Glennon was appearing at summer training camps and losing eligibility playing behind Wilson who was playing baseball during summer. Seemed like Wilson was greedy, but TOB allowed it for sometime, so it's a difficult situation. P.S, I doubt TOB said he couldn't play his senior year, that doesn't make sense. 5/16/2016 7:18:00 PM |

Why not? With a shitty O-line you need a scrambling QB or they'll end up like Brisset. Also, didn't Glennon sit two years behind Wilson? It took O'brien that long to figure it out? 5/16/2016 7:29:59 PM |

I think we all know what would have happened had he stayed.
We would have gone on to another 9-4 season record, played in the Papa John's Old Spice Bitcoin Bowl powered By Belk. Russell Wilson would have gone unnoticed by NFL scouts and been drafted in the 19th round and never cracking the starting lineup (yet somehow Golden Tate would still have smashed his girl). Meanwhile, transfer Mike Glennon would have transferred to NIU, beat out Jordan Lynch for the starting QB job while breaking school and conference records and paving the way to a standout NFL career, while simultaneously catapulting coach Dave Doeren to success, who would then go on to accept the coaching vacancy at Chapel Hill, only to see them through adversity, and buttfuck us in the ass for eternity.
We're NC State, and this is what we do. 5/16/2016 9:38:59 PM |

FWIW, this was TOB talking about RW's potential as a QB in 2007 (while he was redshirting):
Will Russell Wilson be at Spring Practice? I think he signed a football scholarship so I would expect him to play every spring practice. Now I talked to Elliot Avent today and we're working out how he can be a part of the baseball program. He wants to do it, his grades are wonderful, and if he can help them in any shape or form he will. But if he wants to compete for the starting quarterback job he's going to have to make every practice in the spring.
What are your thoughts on him? He has tremendous leadership ability. When you look at kids in the freshman class, the first name that always pops up when you talk about leadership would be him which is what you want in a quarterback. He has skills. He's got a strong arm. He did a nice job doing the scout team but a lot of that is running off cards so now we've got to see if he can call a play, get to the line of scrimmage and execute once the ball is snapped. Those are all things we have to find out about him. It looks like he has the temperament and ability to be a good quarterback.

you know how he was complaining about not getting enough playing time before he hit that "pinch hit" home run in the UC Irvine game, which happened to be the 5th game of the season (the same season in which he received the most playing time in his career while posting the 4th lowest batting average on the team)?
dug up some box scores and this is what actually happened Game 1 vs. LaSalle: 3 plate appearances Game 2 vs. LaSalle: 2 plate appearances Game 3 vs. LaSalle: pitched 2 innings Game 4 vs. Campbell: pitched 1 1/3 innings

i guess it's been re-hashed a million times. but russell wilson had the choice and chose to continue to pursue baseball (repeatedly)...it's not like he had no choice in the matter of whether or not he played his senior year at state. he had the choice, and chose baseball. which led to TOB's decision in favor of Glennon. of course, we could argue all day about whether TOB did the right or wrong thing, but what's so aggravating is how RW keeps playing the role of blameless victim. he chose to pursue his baseball career even though he 1) wasn't that good and 2) knew it could/would jeopardize his football career at state. it's really pretty simple in that regard.
^and that was also his second AB of that game, i believe 5/17/2016 5:53:02 PM |

The level of saltiness from you state fans is ridiculous.
It's pretty well documented that tob said glennon was gonna be the starter if he came back. Everyone here agreed that's how it went down... now he throws it in a graduation speech and you guys say fuck him?
I say fuck tob. Wilson was the best fucking thing that ever happened to this university. We had a great chance to win the accomplishment and Glennon never really fulfilled his potential.
Glennons senior year was unremarkable because we had so little talent on the team. His junior year he wasn't half the player Wilson was that year.
The whole baseball thing never made sense, scouts loved him even though he always sucked dick at baseball. But he was the highest rated nfl qb prospect ever by lewin. It still makes zero sense how far he dropped in the draft. Jacksonville drafted a goddam punter overhim.
But honestly I'm baffled that anyone is upset at RW. Direct your anger towards tob for running him off, not Wilson for doing what he had to do to play
His jesus shtick is annoying, but frankly no one is more annoying than jesus himself. What a self righteous ass hole he was.

Seems like your whole last post is based on this premise being true, which it's not.
It's pretty well documented that TOB said RW would have to compete for the starting job and it wouldn't just be handed to him over a guy who had been there putting in the work with the rest of the team. My guess (which I think everyone here actually does agree with) is that had RW come back, he would've just had to put in one single day of practice and Wilson would've earned the starting job over Glennon.
I loved Wilson's 3 years as our QB but I dunno why face can't get his dick out of his mouth.5/17/2016 10:14:19 PM |
