Matt, name five things you don't hate about Crossfit

1. Introduction of barbells to the general public. Until slop is allowed, or even encouraged, to improve time.
2. Usage of anearobic conditioning. Until programming more than 5 reps of a power movement seems like a good idea.
3. Importance and priority placed on mobility. Except when it's done wrong.
4. Popularization of paleo. Until it's made a religion.
5. I also don't hate how people get sick of getting injured, and then come train with me

Pretty well! Especially since I don't have to pay several thousand a year just to floss the crossfit brand

It probably makes up about 10% of my monthly revenue. I'd like to expand it, but I don't want it to cut in to my premium cheddar...

It's much easier to make $10,000/month charging 33 people $300/month than it is 100 people $100/month.

Diet has come to a close. Perfect timing I moved to the beach. Taking RIP GIRLFRIEND to a whole new level in this pimp condo.

The real key now is to keep my calories at just above maintenance now that ill be drinking every night again so I dont gain much fat with the muscle.

You do crossfit at a solid reputable gym, you're not going to see those problems that you listed above Matt.

The only injuries I witnessed while I was at my gym were guys tripping outside while running on the pavement.

I mean, my gym was rated one of the top ten in the country
(Granted the gym I used to go to cause I'm poor now)

i love the sauna/steam room after a good workout.

except, of course, when people go in there and start stretching, grunting, or otherwise making a spectacle of themselves. the steam room is for chilling, bros: it's not your personal hot yoga studio.

THESE ARE FOR SLAVE'S SPANK BANK...

So I guess my shirtless "fat" pictures got deleted off of facebook at some point, because I can't find them. But this is probably the best clothed pic of me at my highest weight from over a year ago (New Years of 2011/12):

I fluctuated around 165 during that time. I think I got to under 160 during the summer, but put the weight back on again to where I was back in the low 160s around the holidays this year. But I got back in shape for a mid-February trip to Aruba with the future in-laws and here I am back in the low 150s (was right at 150 when we left...but we ate fucking 4-course meals every night of the week and drank like sailors...so definitely added a few lbs during the trip):

Doing my best shoot impression on that last one. Pretty shitty quality pics as well...but not my camera.

Still trying to lose the last few pounds as I'd like to fluctuate around 145lbs instead of 150...but I'm definitely fine where I'm right now.

My pup is finally old enough to go on long runs...so that's been helping a lot recently. Although it has been uncharacteristically cold in Charleston the last few weeks, I plan on going for at least 3 or 4 runs a week.

I'm debating getting back into the gym. The only thing I don't like about giving up heavy weights for plain resistance and kettlebells is that my chest has gotten significantly smaller. I can still do push-ups for days...but I kinda miss having a bigger chest.

Just about done with the "skippingbreakfast/fastingfor16hours" during the week experiment. It's worked great...but I don't like being hungry all morning. Once it warms up and I can increase my cardio, I'm going to do the MattJMM2 coffee/protein combo. I'm going to buy a big ass thermos during my lunch break today that should be able to fit all of that shit in there.

for those of us that didn't see MattJMM2's recipe, what page is it on?

Are you mixing the protein powder with the coffee? Do you blend the whole mixture or just stir in the cream/protein/coco oil?

Yes carbs make your weight fluctuate a ton because your body stores it as glycogen which binds to water so you syore more water too.

Thats why when you start a low carb diet you pee constantly

^^^It's on the page before this one:

Quote :
"MattJMM2: I ponied up for some optimum whey isolate and it's fucking delicious and mixes like a dream. Lately I've been doing 30 grams of whey protein + 2 cups of coffee or 4 shots of espresso as my "breakfast". That usually tides me over til lunch."

Quote :
"MattJMM2: I mix the protein with about 8oz of water, then add the coffee while its warm.

The isolate I got is vanilla milkshake. I've also tried it with 100% whey concentrate/isolate blend chocolate flavor from cytosport that is pretty good.

It's important to mix the protein with water first, and not with the warm coffee. For some reason just adding the protein to the coffee it doesn't mix well and stays chunky and gross."

I am sure adding some coconut oil or heavy cream will make it taste better. Just don't go overboard, if you are using this to get shredded because you're adding extra calories. Although, it may help control your hunger better.

I use one of those shaker blender bottles with the ball-whisk. It works well to blend it up.

Did my protein/coffee drink this morning and it wasn't half bad. Used Vanilla protein, skim milk, and a small scoop of peanut butter. It was a little bland. Might add a splenda next time (I usually put one splenda in my coffee).

I'm also full as fuck. So it definitely satisfied that department.

Turning what could have been a 0 calorie appetite suppressant into a 200 calorie appetite suppressant. Everyone's different, of course, but black coffee and tea gets me through the day no problem.

I don't understand all the hype with PB2. They basically strip away all the nutrients to get them in powdered form. What is the point? I guess if you just want the PB flavor, it's a good buy. But they strip away the good fats you need anyway. Don't be afraid of good fats.

Don't be afraid to eat stuff you like. I simply make room for it with either harder training, or cutting calories else where.

i agree with Matt - just make room for it or enjoy it once a week. i used to be so fearful of fat and now i'm forcing myself to buy the full fat dairy products. i don't consume them in high amounts (i hardly get to a full serving throughout the day) but when they pull away the fat, they replace it with fake ingredients and sugar.

so i went to the allergist 2 weeks go - doctor was concerned after administering my food allergy test because my whole back lit up like a christmas tree and i immediately started feeling sick but had to rule it inconclusive because i didn't react according to the textbook definition so he put me on an elimination diet. coupled with drinking purified bottled water, things were getting better but then they got worse again. come to find out that all the foods on the elimination diet are super high in fructose and now my fructose levels are out of whack - so i've been low fructose/low fructan for a few days and am feeling much better again. stupid food sensitivities

I never exactly feared fat, but when I first started counting calories years ago I avoided them by default because when I compared how much healthy-fatty food I could have versus how many vegetables or fat-free yogurts/Laughing Cow cheese wedges/etc. I could have, the fat usually lost out. I was only eating like 8% of my calories from fat. I realized that wasn't a good idea and upped them ... all at once. That was a bad idea too. But I feel a lot better now that I eat a lot of nuts, oils and avocados.

This! Any foods stripped of anything from its natural form is not whole or nutrititous!

Here is a good article on fortified foods.

Quote :
"Currently, doctors say not enough evidence exists to say whether fortified foods can replace foods naturally containing necessary vitamins and minerals. In other words, eating a cereal containing a plethora of vitamins does not equate to eating fruits, vegetables, legumes, or lean meats. These whole foods offer other nutritional benefits. And “functional foods” do not replace taking a multi-vitamin. Bauer also cautions about adding functional foods to our diet and increasing our total daily calories. If you plan on buying fortified foods, you may need to make some changes to your diet. Instead of adding more foods to your diet, replace some."

I suspect that I actually get more nutrition from fortified "foods" than from whole foods, especially when it comes to cruciferous vegetables and whatnot.
