nutsmackr, that's hilarious, he IMed me too...same screen name...ahhahaa

he wanted to know why I was talking shit (basically b/c he is an annoying lush), then told me to erase what i posted about him on the board...

the difference b/w me and you is that I told him not to get bent out of shape over what he reads on a fucking message board, yet he was still pissed.

i know Kevin personally and he never brags about who his father is and is actually hesitant to mention it unless someone else brings it up.......all of your dislike for him is from the fact that you assume certain things about him b/c of his dad

i thought this was a good read about barnes from a year or so ago....from packpride

Quote :
"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off before i get hammered.....yes, I know that this interview is a little over a year old. However, there is some telling information contained within that might shed some light on what potentially could be happening. I don't know....draw your own conclusions:

"I haven’t talked to anybody, ever, about leaving Texas, I can tell you that," Barnes said. "I like where we are. I think we’ve still got some work to do here to finish it."

Barnes has been linked with the Virginia job, but his name has also surfaced with anticipated vacancies at Indiana and North Carolina State.

"There’s always going to be people looking for a scoop, snooping around, asking this and asking that," Barnes said. "First of all, I’ve got too much respect for this profession and its coaches who might be considered gone for me to be confirming or denying rumors about jobs that aren’t even open."

Just because Barnes hasn’t been contacted yet by other universities doesn’t mean it won’t happen. In fact, it should. Despite the fact that his current depleted roster has produced an on-the-bubble 19-9 record, Barnes is considered a hot commodity in Division-I circles after guiding a so-called Football School to three straight ‘Sweet Sixteen’ appearances.

"I’ve always said I’m going to be as honest as I can about everything, but I’m not going to lie. I plan on being at Texas for a long time. That’s what I plan on doing. Do I know what’s going to happen in the future? I absolutely don’t."

Barnes concedes, however, that he has kept previous job moves as clandestine as possible to mollify the rumor mill. Case-in-point: Barnes agreed to leave his "dream job" at George Mason University to interview at Providence "under one circumstance -- we do it at midnight, we do it in Boston." He also told Providence officials that "if you want to show me the campus, we’ll ride down there at two in the morning."

That, in fact, was what Barnes did. He followed the popular Rick Pitino and coached at Providence form 1988-94. Then, when Barnes left Providence for Clemson, "I had the job for six weeks and nobody knew it. I accepted the job at the end of January."

The same thing happened when Texas Men’s AD DeLoss Dodds contacted Barnes in 1998.

"They called and I said, ‘When you really want to get serious and talk about it, I don’t want anybody to know about it. I’m not coming to Austin; I’ll meet you in Dallas.’ And that’s what we did."

Barnes actually interviewed (again, secretly) for the Virginia job while he was still at Providence.

"I went down and met them in Washington, accepted the job and drove down to Charlottesville, met the president and was planning to meet the incoming president. In between, I decided that I wasn’t going to leave."
Barnes would not elaborate on the factors that prompted his change of decision, although he added that the (then) president of Providence College would have reluctantly released him from his contract.

"I understand rumors and some of them get annoying," Barnes said. "Some of them are hilarious. You get to where you think you’re going to have to talk about every one of them. The fact of the matter is, I don’t know the future. I hope I’m around for a long time, but I don’t know."

i think the article just shows that he is overly cautious to be respectful of his current team and fans and not let them know anything until he has made a decision...this makes sure not to hurt recruiting or people's views of him if he decides to stay at his current school

We shouldnt have to pay a coach that much to want to come here. If we do, then we're in worse shape than I thought. If you're even gonna come close to 2 million, it better be an incentive laced contract. I dont mind paying 2.2 million for a championship. I dont mind paying close to that for a couple of ACC championships. But I dont want to pay that much for potential. None of these coaches have proven shit, except barnes has proven that he can win in the big 12, and calipari in C-usa...big w00p.

anything 2 mill or up is too much, especially if it isn't RB. but on the bright side we know that fowler isn't afraid to spend the dough to get a top level coach.

http://html.wral.com/sh/blogger/2006/04/tom-suiter-playing-guess-coach.html
Quote :
"N.C. State looking for the successor to Herb Sendek. We have heard that State will spend the money necessary to get the coach they want. We shall see, won't we?

It appears that North Carolina native and former Clemson Coach Rick Barnes could be out of the question.Although it's unofficial and nobody will say anything officially, State would like Barnes to say yes, he's their first choice, but at this time that doesn't seem likely. Officially, Barnes says he's had no contact with State, but middlemen have been in touch to gage the interest.

Texas A.D. Deloss Dodds said today in the Austin American Statesman, "the bottom line: he (Barnes) doesn't want to go. He loves Texas." Dodds also said he's working on an increase in Barnes' salary.

We've also learned that Villanova Coach Jay Wright, who signed a new contract in February, has a huge buyout clause. Wright also says he's very happy in Philadelphia.

Also, the name of Miami Coach Frank Haith has been mentioned. He's known as a good recruiter, but Haith has only been a head coach for a couple of years, and has never been to the NCAA Tournament. He, in my mind, would not be a home run. He'd be like a single.

Also, have heard the name Tubby Smith, who has North Carolina ties. However, he's about as popular in Kentucky as Coach Sendek was around here. Wildcat fans expect Final Fours, and U.K. hasn't been to one since 1998. And don't you know, it rankles those folks that the SEC had two Final Four teams and the National Champ and neither was Kentucky.

It's still early in the process, and of course, there are a lot of things going that no one knows about. Playing "guess the coach" is fun, but it's never exact. I mean, who last week at this time thought Herb Sendek was going to Arizona State? And remember those infamous Roy Williams coming to Carolina headlines in 2000? He did finally make it, of course, but not until 2003.

Stay tuned for A.D. Lee Fowler's first major hire. It could make or break him."
