to me, wright seems like a really bizzare choice. i doubt he leaves, 'Nova is a great job to have and they'll continue to be competitive after this year.

i think we could get Phil Jackson. Lets send Lee Fowler and Chuck out to talk to him.

Money talks...if we're really throwing around 1.5+ Mil, that's a huge upgrade to Wright...nearly double

I am not sure why everyone is talking about Jay Wright as the next coach. Have ya'll heard rumors we have contacted him, Jay isn't an ACC boy, so why all this talk about him?

Rumors that he's on the list, yeah. But just rumors at this point.

All I can say is that if it was my choice, Wright would be the very first guy I called.

Don't know if it's coachspeak or not. I believe this more than I'll believe Barnes, though

Quote :
"On the heels of one of Villanova's most successful basketball seasons, coach Jay Wright's name keeps coming up in coaching vacancy rumors.

Wright squashed some of those yesterday.

While the Naismith coach of the year said he is flattered by being mentioned as a possible candidate for openings at North Carolina State and Oklahoma, he plans to stay put.

"I'm very happy and proud to be at Villanova," he said.

Wright, who finished his fifth season with the Wildcats with an Elite Eight appearance, received a seven-year contract extension in February. Terms of that contract were not released.

Wright said he had not spoken to or been contacted by North Carolina State or Oklahoma.

Doesn't surprise me; I know he's a long shot.

I'd still say make the offer...$1.8 million can get a lot done.

^^ I still don't think this means he wouldn't listen.

If you haven't noticed by now... or if the rest of you don't follow these coaching situations, this is standard jargon for coaches. It doesn't compromise recruiting, it doesn't lose the fanbase and make the coach look bad if things dont work out, etc.

I think our chances of Wright are slim to none, at best... but this article does nothing to change my feelings about our chances.

We call him, he'll listen. Like you said, money talks.

It's quite interesting that Calipari hasn't said a word though... while Barnes and Wright have. Calipari interviewed for this job when we hired Herb.

that would be uncanny

Cliff's notes.... Jones is close to the program. He said 2 days ago he thougth Barnes was a pipe dream, but now he'd probably put it above 50/50 in State's favor....more like 60/40

So how long does this drag out before it really becomes a joke? If we don't have a coach in the next week are we fucked? 2 weeks? How long do we give Barnes before we stop chasing him and move onto someone else??

i know we're all nervous and anxious about who our next coach is going to be, but it has only been a couple days. You don't take a coach away from one of the better basketball programs in the country overnight. There is a courting process involved, so give it some time

Though it's safe to say that by next week, this whole Barnes fiasco will be solved hopefully, regardless if he stays in Texas or comes here.

No...in all seriousness...if we do not get Barnes, Calipari, or Wright...we are a joke. Wright won't even sit down for an interview and Calipari has said he's not even interested (I don't even know if we're interested...I'm kind of split on him). I am still holding out hope from Barnes. Rumors are all over the place that we've got a great chance...yet all the solid media (with quotes from him and his AD), say that we have no chance.

However, I'll hold out for Barnes. If we get him, then all is right in the world. But if we go get a midmajor or a young coach from Miami or A&M...then this whole thing would be a mess. We just gave up a guy who proved himself as a good midmajor coach, who is an established recruiter at a major school, and has pretty much proven himself at the highest level of college basketball. Save yourself the tireless Herb arguments...I've heard him. The bottom line is that we had a guy that was going to keep us in the tournament every year (and he's proven that) and there was still a possibility, with the incoming recruits and possible changes in the coaching style, that we could get even better. And if we were to go from that to an unproven coach....then that is pathetic. I don't see how that can be argued.

Fuck "bringing in new life." We're in great position to hire a big name coach and jump right into the mix with Duke and UNC. Hiring an unproven coach could possibly set us back a couple of years and ruin a great opportunity.

^^i agree wholeheartedly. i'm really pissed about losing sendek. if we don't get a big name coach, i don't know what i'll do. losing two incredible recruits at least, a good coach, etc... all because our fans are fucking stupid as hell.

i'm still hoping for a big name to bite and come here, but i keep having this sinking feeling that our basketball program is going down the drain now.

i just don't see any scenario where hiring an "up and comer" or unproven coach would be an improvement over herb. those '07 recruits could have been our ticket to championships, and now we'll never find out.

That's pretty much why I was against firing Herb... UNLESS you made a major improvement... If we don't get the big name guy we are taking a huge risk that may/may not pan out and it may take a few years for it to pan out anyways.... At least with Herb... nevermind.. not going to start this all up again....

Wright said he still may come depending on who the coach is. It will be much harder to get him, but I'm sure he's gonna be the first junior the new coach calls when he gets here. If its a big name, then we might be in good shape.

^^We DIDN'T FIRE HERB! Herb left because there was a team offering him a job where there are no expectations, and no retarded fans calling for his lynching after a bad loss...yet. Some of You People will have yourselves to blame if we don't get the big name coach because he is afraid of your stupid ignorant asses.

I think that post pretty much nails my thoughts on it.

I was a Herb supporter, but the fact is I'm a State fan first. I would've been on the fire-Herb bandwagon in a second if we had a better coach lined up.

As it is, we have a chance to take a big step up. If we fail at that, then this is a big fuckup.
