He also posted a yellow pad that we have the worst "fg defense" in the league, ie opposing teams hit a better % against us then anyone else

Tell that to Wisconsin. They've got a real chance of going undefeated and being left out of the playoff. Also, how does one know that they are a playoff contender 5-10 years before it happens when these OOC games are scheduled?

So you're saying Wisconsin is a playoff contended that may miss out bc of bad OOC scheduling?

Sounds like you're arguing FOR their point, not against

Interesting though: I think B10 play 9 conf games so technically they play the same min number of P5 teams

0 chance that happens. undefeated p5 conference champ will ALWAYS make the playoff.

plus they played BYU this year, who is bad...but would, like ND, count as a P5 OOC. plus a potential conference title game is another conference opponent.

Exactly. In the BCS era, you may have had to do a little extra to get the bump when there were 3-4 undefeated teams to get a championship bid. Now that there is a playoff, win out and be a P5 and you will be in. May be more of an issue if you are a one loss team, but you know what helps you be only a one loss team in the first place? Playing a shit Noncon schedule.

Also I don't think recruits care more about who they are playing as much as winning and the chance to stunt on people. I don't think anyone is going, "I want to play for that 3-9 team cause they get stomped by good teams like Bama and Penn State all the time".

^goddamn son, you HAVE to schedule a P5 team. aside from following that rule, nobody's saying we should be playing a buncha P5 teams. i said nobody's advocating for a tougher OOC. this year we played SCar and @ND OOC. nobody says it should be tougher than it currently is. christ. sounds like folks are advocating for, roughly, our current schedule structure. G5 teams like Marshall are roughly ECU equivalent (in general, obviously ECU is assss this year). so that statement does not really change anything. and the other comment about playing games that give us exposure is, again, something we're already doing. so no...that ain't advocating for much change.

Did we really agree to ECU in 2019? I thought we were done with all of your required ECU games, why would we schedule them?

Let's just schedule Duke as an OOC game since we don't get scheduled to play them anymore

Can confirm this is what I meant. Wasn't asking to add another P5 school and ECU/App to replace Marshall and Furman to our schedule this year. This year is the typical OOC year for a program in our position. I'd probably divide it up like this:

- 1 game that'll test us. We should win 33%-50% of the time. (ND this year, or generic P5 school)
- 1 game that we probably should win, hopefully regional. We should win 66%-75% of the time. (South Carolina, ECU or App State)
- 1 game against a non-P5 FBS school. We should win 80%-100% of the time. (Marshall this year)
- 1 game against FCS school. (Furman this year)

Those soft OOC schedules were great early in DD's tenure here because it almost guaranteed us to make a bowl despite the fact that we couldn't win more then 3 conference games each year. At this point though, think it's justifiable to expect more.

Can't remember a time when we played more then 2 OOC P5 opponents in the regular season, so this conversation is kinda unwarranted anyways.

^don't know that i'd include SCar in that second category - i'd keep them in the first category of P5 games. obviously exceptions may arise when we have ND on the schedule, but generally i'd say only one P5 game/year.

Good point. One P5 game per year that seems to be the norm for us (including ND as a P5 even though technically they're not).

Since 2000, we've only played two P5 schools in the regular season - 2009 (South Carolina and Pittsburg, before they moved to the ACC) and 2003 (Ohio State and Texas Tech).

I could have made a mistake, but I think we've had more seasons where we've avoided any P5 schools then had 2 or more on our schedule.

Agreed its crazy but good to see Finley getting some national press. If nothing else, these mock drafts are getting his name out there to the country as a whole.

Like, if I chose a bowl based on opponent, it would be Camping World, dumb as the name is.

Likely Oklahoma State as opposed to Mississippi State again.

Or Military bc it's probably Navy.

If someone is going to draft Finley it should be a team in the south. He has been a lot less accurate in the cold.

I think we should make posting that idiot's mock drafts a suspendable offense.

I don't even bother reading them once I see Chris Trapasso in the byline.

unfortunately having a single lottery pick on your team isn't really enough people to make that big an impact on the field.

It's 33 v 33 out there.

What is even more amazing is the fact we have a kicker on the roster who made a 60 yarder in HS and routinely kicked it in the endzone on kickoffs last year and we decided to move him to safety. Maples hasn't attempted a single kick while Bambard and Wise suck it up.

7,8,9 win seasons by tob...but not in that order. Also if we beat UNC, 6-2 is our best conference record in ~25 years
