Trump's comments on his supposed cognitive test sounds like it came from someone who most definitely failed their cognitive test.

Quote : | "You know, I can't help but notice that you still didn't bother to define "mild", even when this objection of its omission is explicitly pointed out to you. Are you just incapable of engaging in good faith?" |
I was just pointing out that the number had some basis and wasn't some crazy number out of Trump's ass (even if it was colloquial use). If you want to question, the validity of the number or its application, have at it but don't act like the number in Trump's statement was complete fantasy. Its not my responsibility to define "mild condition". I'm not a health professional nor do I make these stats. I just happened to be familiar enough with the numbers to immediately recognize the 99% number. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
Once again, you've posted a link to an article that was published 2 days after my post so no I could not have been expected to read that before posting. An interesting thing about that study is it appears to have only included hospitalized patients. What % of total infections do you think these effects are seen in? Is there anything to indicate its much greater than 1% of all infections?
Quote : | "Earl made an excuse and tried to play it off as an allegory but his post regarding the 99% of cases are harmless was a direct defense of Trump yet again just like the Easter re-opening. It was just as wrong too." |
You are projecting your way of thinking onto me. Try to remember that my claims/criticisms are always based on the points being made and information being conveyed and never based on the person making them. I separate the two. If I defend a point Trump made, I'm defending what I see as a correct point, not defending Trump.
I'm welcome to the idea of being wrong if you can provide data to suggest otherwise. As far as I've seen, the vast majority of cases are not that bad. (what "not that bad" means, I still don't know. I don't have it and have never seen anyone with it)
Quote : | "Earl knows that we simply don’t know what the long-term effects of relatively mild cases will be and at best it’s a weak cover for what Trump said and at worst it’s straight lying." |
but in science, we don't make conclusions about things we don't know. I know you are capable of understanding this because you found Jill Stein's claim that 'we don't know how wifi affects young children long-term' as a complete dealbreaker. The difference is that you are able to contradict yourself because you are focused on attacking/defending individuals instead of the merit of arguments.

"Mild" is "not as bad as" "serious or critical". I already shared the source so at this point you are debating with the source, not me.
You don't have to be an expert to share conclusions from the experts. If the healthcare community tells me someone is in serious or critical condition, I don't have to question it or go get their education in order to verify it before I go on and tell someone else that person is in critical condition.
https://reason.com/2020/04/12/official-covid-19-numbers-represent-just-6-of-total-infections-a-new-analysis-suggests/ The biggest misconception of all is that people think "cases" means total infections. It doesn't. That misconception makes every data point seem a lot worse than what it is actually showing.

The "mild versus critical" debate leaves out the more important context regarding the fact that mild cases can turn into critical cases in an incredibly, abnormal short of time. Hence "mild" is not a good barometer of risk. 7/10/2020 6:17:23 PM |

It opens the door for trumps current campaign to unashamedly cheat because they know the president, the attorney general, and the gop congress will help them avoid repercussions. It’s pretty easy to make the case that the Trump administration’s blatant corrupting of the DOJ, if it were to become the new normal, is more dangerous to the long term survival of the country than COVID. I know the history of the DOJ is hardly sterling, but democracy won’t survive long if a president is able to selectively prosecute his enemies and commute his minions.
Y’all know Stone is going to try to ratfuck Biden right? Sure Stone could roll on Trump, so Trump needed to commute, but also Trump needs Stone to make the race competitive again (ghouliani couldn’t make Burisma stick). 7/11/2020 6:50:33 AM |

The media always understood. You rarely see an anchor or field reporter live on air with a mask (even when they were complaining about lack of masks) because they think it looks ridiculous too and realize that seeing someone with or without a mask doesn't actually do anything. Its always been about context and today was a context (hospital) where he felt the need to wear a mask. 7/12/2020 3:43:51 AM |

Trump has always said he doesn't wear a mask because he's in a protective bubble where anyone in the white house or close contact has tested negative. That is not foolproof and is what could be criticized.
Regular people don't live with the same security as the president. Does the president need to look both ways before crossing the street? Were Bush or Obama ever seen taking their shoes off before getting on a plane? No, but if they flew commercial with everyone else, they would have. The mask is like that. Typically no one can get within 6 feet of the president without a mask, a test, or both. You will see the same thing with pro athletes, news anchors, reporters, households and anyone else who operates in a "bubble".
If you show me some evidence supporting the idea that people wearing masks is conditioned upon the president doing so, I'll concede and by that logic, we should now expect to see a huge uptick in masks in places where they are not required.
Quote : | "CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain." |
You have to realize that the president and the whitehouse staff are in a protective bubble and he rarely comes in contact with anyone outside of that bubble without testing confirmation.
Quote : | "When he travels to locations where the virus is surging, every venue the President enters is inspected for potential areas of contagion by advance security and medical teams, according to people familiar with the arrangements. Bathrooms designated for the President's use are scrubbed and sanitized before he arrives. Staff maintain a close accounting of who will come into contact with the President to ensure they receive tests." |
Quote : | " those around the President still undergo regular testing. " |
Quote : | "Even as Trump attempts to move on, the protective bubble around him has grown thicker" |
Quote : | "efforts to prevent him from contracting the virus have progressively become more intensive and wide-ranging. Early steps such as keeping more hand sanitizer nearby eventually evolved into an intensive safety apparatus, including the testing regimen requiring dozens of staffers." |
If people did all the things the president is doing, cases would be lowlow. I wish people wore masks and followed all of the guidance too, and when you blindly put the blame for that all on the president, you miss the opportunity to talk about the values which are the real cause. Just like with everything else. I don't hate TDS because I want to defend Trump. I hate TDS because it absolves the country of its sins.
I won't let Trump be the scapegoat for every single problem in this country.

It's extremely obvious when you look at how the US has fared compared to every other country, we screwed up... badly. Just this week I think we have the highest death toll/million over the last 7 days of every country on earth.
If Trump would have said back in January that the fed gov wasn't going to have any response and it's up to the states we probably would have been fine. But we were strung along by the trump admin with an incompetent response, to this day, which probably made things worse than if they just told everyone they were going to do nothing from the beginning.

Just because you found out about it last week, doesn't mean it started last week. That rule was the norm and has been the norm as long as I've been working in college. Here is the policy in print from Eastern Florida State college 12/2015
Quote : | "4. Maintain full- time enrollment - 12 credit hours per semester – at all times U.S. immigration regulations require F-1 visa students to register for and complete a full course load each semester. At the beginning of each term, EFSC International Student Services is required to confirm that all international students are registered and maintaining full-time enrollment. Student enrollment will be monitored throughout the semester.
Students who drop below full-time enrollment without approval from EFSC International Student Services must be reported to the Department of Homeland Security via SEVIS. As a result, the SEVIS record will be terminated and the student will lose lawful F-1 status
? Online Coursework – ONLY 3 hours towards full time enrollment Immigration regulations limit the number of online courses a student can count towards the 12 credit full-time requirement. Only one course or three online credit hours can be counted towards the full-time requirement. Please meet with an International Student Advisor if you have questions regarding courses offered online" |
